Caravan park cafe and tiny bistro on Good Good Guide list of 100 Best Local Restaurants

A cafe on an Anglesey holiday park and possibly the smallest restaurant in Gwynedd have both been named on a UK top 100 list from the Good Food Guide.
The guide has released its 100 Best Local Restaurants for 2025 in partnership with Square.
Now in its 15th year, the Best Local Restaurant awards spotlight brilliant, independently run venues that define affordable and accessible dining across Britain. From Anglesey to Argyll, Newcastle to the Cornish coast, nearly 60,000 public nominations poured in from diners eager to champion their favourite spots.
The Guide's anonymous inspectors criss-crossed the UK to put these nominations to the test, revealing how Britain really eats in 2025. In a recent survey*, 61% of diners said that eating out has become too expensive for them in 2025.
The Good Food Guide's editor, Chloë Hamilton, said: "Great value for money is a big focus of this year's list. We're celebrating wine bars serving sensational small plates, neighbourhood bistros breathing new life into faded seaside towns, and cherished family-run gems where you can enjoy a great meal for under £20."
Samantha Hussain-Letch, executive director at business technology platform Square, said: "At Square, supporting the food and beverage industry is our top global priority, so we're proud to partner with The Good Food Guide to celebrate this exceptional list of restaurants. The restaurants recognised by The Good Food Guide exemplify creativity and excellence, and we're excited to see how they continue to shape the future of the industry."
Leading the list, as overall winner, is Lucky Lychee in Winchester, a standout Malaysian restaurant run by husband-and-wife duo James Harris and Nicole Yeoh, while Paternoster Farm in Pembrokeshire takes the prize for Best Local Restaurant in Wales.

One is on an Anglesey caravan park in a comeback success for two brothers. The Marram Grass was the toast of the foodie world over a decade ago. Run by Liam and Ellis Barrie, who later appeared on Great British Menu, the place was known far and wide and people would travel miles to visit the site near Newborough.
They later opened Lerpwl in Liverpool and Marram was closed during the pandemic. This was followed by the closure of Lerpwl as well in 2023.
The brothers made a return to Anglesey last year - opening Y Marram back at Newborough Warren Caravan Park. This accolade shows they've once again caught the eye of the food world, gaining recognition from the Good Food Guide.
The second is a small restaurant that has been delighting diners for over a decade. It is the Dining Room in Abersoch run by talented chef Si Toft.
It has rave reviews from its loyal customers so it is no surprise that it has been noticed by the Good Food Guide. The most recent TripAdvisor review said it has the "best food in Wales" and they're not alone in that opinion.
Another recent diner added: "The food was exceptional, the service delightful and the wine delicious. Si and his team bent over backwards to make it a truly special evening and we are super grateful. This restaurant is 100% the best on the Llyn and is one of our favourites anywhere."
With around 20 covers a night the only issue is getting booked in!

It has an overall rating of 'Good' on the guide's website, while its 'uniqueness' score is 'very good'. The Good Food Guide says: "'A real asset to Swansea,' this local favourite occupies one end of a former grain store overlooking the steely waters of Prince of Wales Dock on the city's regenerated waterfront. "Inside, original features such as exposed brickwork, cement, tiles and some serious-looking riveted metal pillars are offset by bright and airy design flourishes, a theatrical open kitchen along one wall, counter seating and some cool, well-spaced modernist furniture – all overseen by a meticulous front of house team. "Executive chef/co-owner Jonathan Woolway is a Swansea boy who decamped to London for a long stint at Fergus Henderson's St John before returning to his hometown. "The menu is a hymn to top-notch Welsh ingredients, from Pembrokeshire crab and lobster to Gower asparagus and new season's lamb. "At times, the food is deceptively simple, but beneath the breezy presentation, individual elements are clearly carefully considered and the cooking is precise." The Black Bear Inn The Black Bear Inn, located in Bettws Newydd, also features among the Good Food Guide's 100 best local restaurants. It has a 'Very Good' overall rating on the guide's website and is commended for "thrilling cooking in a remote, rural location". The Good Food Guide adds: "It's always reassuring to come across a rural pub in an area barely big enough to count as a village – in this case, a seductive corner of Monmouthshire in the rough vicinity of Usk. "The weekly changing, all-day menu is built around three each of starters and mains, but opens with an extensive range of snacks, which are definitely worth investigating." Customers also think favourably about the Black Bear Inn, with it scoring a 4.6 rating (from 163 reviews) on Tripadvisor. One visitor said: "One of the best meals I have ever had. The beef was to die for. Friendly service and superb cuisine. Well worth a visit to Monmouthshire." Casanova Casanova is described by the Good Food Guide as a "no-frills regional Italian trattoria", with an overall rating of 'good'. The experts add: "Traditional and delightfully untrendy, this trattoria has been serving up a slice of Italy to appreciative locals for more than 20 years. "Run by chef Antonio Cersosimo (from Calabria by way of Milan) and Neapolitan wine importer Luca Montuori, the proposition is a picture of regional Italian gastronomy, pairing premium Italian imports with bountiful Welsh produce. RECOMMENDED READING: "The concise menu, supplemented by a paper slip of specials, will transport you from the humdrum lookout onto an NCP car park, while charming service invites you to kick back and relax." The Cardiff-based restaurant also has a near-perfect 4.6 rating on Tripadvisor (from 922 reviews). Customers have described Casanova as "My Favourite Cardiff Restaurant", "a hidden treasure" and "top class".

UK's favourite walk has been named and it features caves, shipwrecks and coves

Consumer experts at Which? surveyed more than 1,000 of its members across the UK to give a definitive answer to which one is truly the best - and it's a stunner in Cornwall that came out on top We all have a preferred stroll, be it a circuit around the neighbourhood, a hike in the Peak District or even a jaunt to our favourite pub. ‌ However, consumer experts at Which? have conducted a survey of over 1,000 members across the UK to definitively determine the best walk. ‌ Each route was evaluated based on its scenery, points of interest along the way, signage and waymarking, wildlife and several other factors. The data was then used to compile a comprehensive ranking table. ‌ Among the hundreds of routes, a beauty in Cornwall emerged as the winner. The Lizard Peninsula Circuit, located at the UK's most southwesterly point about 10 miles south of Helston, took the top spot, reports the Express. With its proximity to the Atlantic and almost Mediterranean climate, the stunning Cornish landscape is perfect for a refreshing stroll, culminating with a dip in the crystal-clear blue waters. ‌ The walk itself covers a solid seven miles and takes approximately three hours, leading you from caves to coves dotted with enchanting shipwrecks. The Which? review noted: "From the safe distance of the coastal path, however, the pounding of waves on the ragged shoreline is exhilarating rather than terrifying." The circular route begins and ends in the village of Lizard before heading to Kynance Cove, once a popular destination for Victorian day-trippers but now offering a much more contemporary experience. ‌ The guide said: "You can enjoy wrap-around sea views while you eat your sandwich or baked potato from the beach café. "Visitors told us they appreciated the dramatic scenery, the abundance of wildflowers and the possibility of spotting a red-legged chough or bobbing seals and basking sharks in the tumbling waves." ‌ From Kynance Cove, the journey takes you Southeast, hugging the coastline all the way to Lizard Point before circling back around the bay, offering an experience so exotic, you'd swear you weren't in the UK. This spectacular trail has earned an impressive 87% rating, surpassing other beloved spots like The Needles on the Isle of Wight and the Buttermere Circuit in the Lake District. With hundreds of five-star Google Reviews to its name, numerous walkers have praised the route. A recent visitor commented: "One of the most beautiful places in Cornwall, with stunning views and fewer crowds than Land's End. It's a must-visit if you're in Cornwall." Echoing this sentiment, another said: "I've been visiting when on holiday with my parents, our children & now grandchildren for over 70 years, a place you can never get fed up viewing any time of year," and yet another added: "So beautiful and unspoilt. Would recommend a visit. Breathtaking scenery."
