Watch: Lando Norris has nose split open after man falls off pit wall
Norris, who drove to his first Grand Prix victory at Silverstone on Sunday, looked visibly in pain and had to be taken away for medical treatment, having approached the pit wall to celebrate with the thousands of fans gathered on the start-finish straight.
The man appeared to be a photographer who was attempting to get into position for Norris' pit-wall celebrations. As he hauled himself into position, the black screening that had been erected after the race came loose and he fell backwards into the McLaren driver, who was subsequently barged into two other nearby photographers.
Norris was carrying his the Royal Automobile Club Trophy, given each year to the winner of the British Grand Prix, that appears to have caused the cut when it was hit into his face.
The 25-year-old, from Bristol, needed Steri-Strips to treat the wound and later appeared on the Silverstone Main Stage to greet fans showing off his latest injuries.
Norris saw the funny side when he explained his war wounds, having suffered a similar nose injury while partying at a Martin Garrix DJ set in Amsterdam before the Miami Grand Prix last year.
'Long story.. but now I have two scars on my nose!' joked Norris when he addressed fans after the race. 'One was lonely so now I've got two. But it's all part of the memories of Silverstone.'
Norris also looks set to be fined by the FIA after he fell foul of their swearing rules during his post-race celebrations.
Speaking to Jenson Button and broadcast live on Sky Sports F1, Norris said: 'Your mind just goes pretty blank. Everything you might think before the race, you forget. The main thing is just don't f--- it up, that's rule number one.'
Norris quickly realised his faux pas and apologised, as did Button who added: 'Sorry from me as well!'
But that apology is unlikely to get Norris out of hot water with FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem, who this year pushed through new regulations that sees drivers hit with financial penalties for any swearing that happens outside of the cockpit.
However, after drivers pushed back on the fines, Norris is only expected to be docked £4,200, a mere drop in the ocean when his reported £16 million-a-year contract is considered.
Before suffering the injury, Norris said: 'No tears. I tried but when I get emotional I don't cry. I smile. It was just pure joy, pure emotion of the moment you're in. I wish I'd cried because it looks better.
'This is where it all started for me. I saw my grandstand today and was thinking someone's got to win today, there is no reason why it can't be me.
'I sometimes find it difficult to be positive before races but I was surprised today that I had the pace when I needed it.
'I join a long list of pretty incredible winners here, most of them are Lewis [Hamilton] but to join him and continue the reign on the British side is pretty amazing.'

Maura Higgins reveals dramatic new look as she attends the star-studded F1 British Grand Prix at Silverstone
showed off a dramatic new look on Sunday as she posed for Instagram photos at the Formula One British Grand Prix at Silverstone. The Love Island legend looked strikingly different as she ditched her usual long brunette tresses revealing her new edgy short hair do to her four million followers. She beamed for a selfie as she revealed she was actually wearing a wig as she headed to the race with hair brand,TRESemmé, which saw McLaren driver Lando Norris claim his first-ever home win. Maura teamed the new hairstyle with a branded TRESemmé black cropped bomber jacket which she wore with leather trousers. The TV personality shared a second snap in black and white as she overlooked the track at the Silverstone circuit while holding a racing helmet. She wrote: 'Back on the grid'. On Saturday, Maura also attended the Formula One to watch the qualifying as she posed for photos in the star-studded paddock. She cut a dramatic figure in a black leather minidress which boasted a daring cut out down the side. Maura turned heads as she went braless under the number as she sipped on a Peach Celsius before enjoying a wine and pasta in hospitality. This is not the first time, Maura has experimented with wigs as for Coachella this year she donned a bold dark red fringed wig. Also at the American festival, t he model opted for a long straight blonde wig as she striped off in a daring western themed look. After a tensely-fought, and rain-soaked race, Lando Norris landed his first ever home podium to win the British Grand Prix, beating his dominant team-mate Oscar Piastri. It was a chance the faultless Norris claimed, winning his home race for the first time in front of a 160,000-strong crowd that had painted their affections for him in the orange of McLaren that was the dominant colour in the stands, at least underneath the ponchos. It was the Bristolian's fourth victory of the season and put him just eight points of Piastri, who finished runner-up, at the world championship summit. This is not the first time, Maura has experimented with wigs as for Coachella this year she donned a bold dark red fringed wig 'Beautiful,' said Norris, his voice thin, putting triumph in the Midlands ahead even of his delight in Monaco in May. Elsewhere, Lewis Hamilton had a day of nearly doing it, but not quite, finishing in fourth place. The British Grand Prix also included a star studded line-up for this years concert which included headlining sets from Raye, Becky Hill, Jade and Sam Fender. Raye put on an incredible performance on Friday with Hamilton watching from the side of stage, amid romance rumours between the pair. As speculation continues to swirl around their relationship, the racing driver, 40, did nothing to quell the gossip as he happily danced along while the singer, 27, entertained the crowds. Raye looked sensational in a figure-hugging red leather gown, with Lewis barely able to take his eyes off her as he enjoyed the show. The sportsman attempted to keep a low profile as the gig as he stood back in the shadows behind Raye's supporters at the side of the stage. A source exclusively told MailOnline of Lewis' appearance: 'He literally didn't leave side of stage the entire time and he was in Raye's personal side and was loving it. 'I was very shocked how long he stayed, he was clearly trying to show he's committed.' She cut a dramatic figure in a black leather minidress which boasted a daring cut out down the side and elevated her frame in a pair of knee high boots Meanwhile Sam Fender put on a show-stopping set as he took to the stage on Thursday opening the weekend. The line-up was announced on the February 20, and on this day viagogo saw a 70% increase in fans searching for F1 tickets compared to the week prior. Raye, who won an impressive seven Brit Awards last year, has been growing strength to strength and on the viagogo website experienced an 845% rise in ticket searches the week after her monumental wins. Meanwhile Sam Fender has been one of the most sought after tickets for 2025 as shown by search data on the viagogo platform. The month prior to his most recent St James Park headline show on the June 15 saw enough fans were looking for tickets to fill the stadium almost 2.5 times over. Other than Edinburgh and Belfast in August, Silverstone will be the last announced performance to catch Sam this year, showing that F1 has secured one of the hottest acts in the UK. Elsewhere Becky Hill closed the weekend opening the British Grand Prix by singing the National Anthem followed by taking to the stage in the evening. The songstress has become more and more popular and last year her combined ticket searches on viagogo could have almost filled Wembley Stadium three times over. However it's not just Silverstone UK F1 fans are travelling to as many are now jetting around the globe having currently purchased tickets to 23 out of the 24 international GP's via the viagogo platform, who have partnered with BWT Alpine Formula One Team. And following the Drive to Survive Season 7 launch on March 7, viagogo saw an 87% increase in fans searching for F1 tickets that week compared to the week before.

Max Verstappen shows true colours with gesture at Nico Hulkenberg from his car
Sauber driver Nico Hulkenberg finally finished on the podium for the first time in his long Formula 1 career and Max Verstappen was the first driver to congratulate him on his achievement Max Verstappen showed his class by immediate congratulating Nico Hulkenberg on his first ever podium in Formula 1. Sauber driver Hulkenberg, 37, had never finished inside the top three after 239 race starts in his long career. But amid the rain-fuelled chaos of Sunday's British Grand Prix, the German prevailed and took home the trophy for P3. What made Hulkenberg's performance even more remarkable was the fact that he'd started the race at Silverstone in 19th position. After driving past the chequered flag in front of a raucous British crowd, who were also celebrating Lando Norris' first win at his home circuit, Hulkenberg received a gesture from reigning world champion Verstappen. The Red Bull driver got level with Hulkenberg and was seen giving him a thumbs up before pumping his first. In a post-race interview with Viaplay, the 37-year-old revealed: "Max was the first guy who came (to congratulate me). We (Max and I) go way back, you know, from karting days when we were teens. "I think we have a lot of respect... I mean, I have a lot of respect for him, you know - what he does, what he stands for. A great human being." Verstappen also told reporters about Hulkenberg: "Yeah, fantastic, I'm really happy for him. Yeah, it was very nice to see because when you're in F1 for such a long time and you have not been on the podium, and being so close a few times, I think this is pretty special for him. "I think for Nico, I think he's quite relaxed in that sense. He knows what he can do. He has shown that in the past, before Formula 1 and in Formula 1, but for whatever reason, it didn't work out up until now. "He'll take it and he will be very happy, but I think he knows how good he is. The podium does not suddenly say that you are a lot better. It's just really nice for him to at least be on an F1 podium." Hulkenberg made his F1 debut with Williams in 2010 but a decade later he found himself without a seat. In 2023, Haas offered him the chance to return and he spent two years with the American team. Ahead of this season, Hulkenberg joined Sauber, who'll become Audi next year. His podium finish also means that Sauber have scored more points than Verstappen's once-dominant Red Bull (35 to 29) in the last four races. "It's been an emotional rollercoaster this weekend, being virtually last [on Saturday], so a pretty bad day to one of the best days of my career - it's obviously a lot to take in," Hulkenberg added. "That race was intense, with all the changes of conditions, it was sketchy. A high-speed track with changeable conditions is never easy. While I'm happy and relived, I'm mostly tired, and looking forward to getting home, to be honest."

'Pretty surreal, not sure how it all happened, a survival fight. Incredible. I was in denial until the last pit stop. No mistakes, really happy.' 5.48pm CEST 17:48 Piastri shakes hands sportingly with Norris. The gap between them is eight points and the championhip is between them, it seems. It's a 25th home win. And Hulkenberg lands his first podium. Huge celebrations at Sauber! Updated at 5.51pm CEST 5.40pm CEST 17:40 51/52 In his green Sauber, Hulkenberg is enjoying the race of his F1 life. He's won Le Mans before. 5.38pm CEST 17:38 50/52 Bright sun at Silverstone now. The rain a painful memory for some. Hulkenberg has 5.4 seconds on Hamilton. 5.36pm CEST 17:36 49/52 Norris has the fastest lap and seems set fair for a big win. He's steered clear of the drama of a highly dramatic race. 5.35pm CEST 17:35 48/52 Hulkenberg has been in 259 GPs. Hamilton had a wobble like Piastri and is struggling to close on his fellow veteran. 'No team orders, just race to the end,' McLaren tell Piastri. 5.34pm CEST 17:34 47/52 Leclerc is seen riding some gravel. He's had a shocker. Hamilton sets a fastest lap in search of his sixteenth podium at Silverstone. 5.32pm CEST 17:32 46/52 Piastri is asking for the McLaren drivers to be switched as he is innocent of the safety car accusation. Hulkenberg has the fastest lap…we're all on his side. He has seven seconds on Hamilton. 5.31pm CEST 17:31 45/52 Norris pits. And comes out. He has a lead of six seconds. The two McLarens can now race. Verstappen is swearing again, and isn't happy with his balance…Piastri almost loses it on his new tyres….. 5.29pm CEST 17:29 44/52 Norris in the lead, Piastri comes out in second. The two Haas car – Ocon and Bearman collide – but no safety car. Both Haas' slide in perfect symmetry. 5.27pm CEST 17:27 43/52 Hulkenberg holds third. Piastri is called in. 5.27pm CEST 17:27 42/52 Pitting time: Hamilton can't get past Hulkenberg and so comes in, the slicks it is. Verstappen comes in, too. Hamilton is struggling on these new tyres. Hulkenberg pits – and it's too slow – such a shame. 5.25pm CEST 17:25 41/52 Verstappen past Gasly and into sixth. Piastri is told not to be too silly if Norris comes close to him. 5.23pm CEST 17:23 40/52 George Russell spins and into the gravel – that's the slicks shown up to be not up to the job. Thankfully he's able to continue but a pit and a spin means he's in 14th. Alonso also struggling on slicks. 5.21pm CEST 17:21 39/52 Verstappen is in eighth, his lack of downforce – a 'tea tray', as Christian Horner called it – presents a problem. 5.20pm CEST 17:20 38/52 Quicker from Piastri, and he opens his lead on Norris. Alonso plays guinea pigs as he comes in to change to dry tyres. Russell and Mercedes will take that action – they go to the slicks. 5.18pm CEST 17:18 37/52 Norris has the fastest lap. The race is McLaren's but which of their cars? Piastri has the choice of going into the pits or having 10 seconds chalked off. 5.16pm CEST 17:16 36/52 Hamilton is enjoying the dry and Hulkenberg's quest for a podium place is to be denied by the Ferrari's straight-line speed. Updated at 5.23pm CEST 5.14pm CEST 17:14 35/52 Hulkenberg blazes past Stroll, who soon has Hamilton for company. The old master chases a podium place. Verstappen finally overtakes Sainz. 5.12pm CEST 17:12 34/52 Verstappen is stuck behind Sainz in 10th. This is desperate for him. 5.11pm CEST 17:11 33/52 Russell is chasing Gasly as he seeks to chase old teammate Hamilton. 5.10pm CEST 17:10 32/52 Piastri: 'It's drying but slowly, too soon for slicks.' 5.09pm CEST 17:09 31/52 Hulkenberg gives chase to Stroll, and third is in sight for the Sauber. Stroll says the track is starting to dry. Norris and Piastri look set for a battle at the front. It's Norris's to lose. 5.06pm CEST 17:06 30/52 Hamilton has finally overtaken Gasly for fifth. Hulkenberg, in fourth, has never been on the podium. We are willing him on. 5.04pm CEST 17:04 29/52 Piastri and Norris are 3.6 seconds apart. It's over 15 seconds to Stroll. 5.03pm CEST 17:03 28/52 Hamilton and Gasly really going at it. Great racing. 5.02pm CEST 17:02 27/52 Hamilton goes after Gasly – his old mate – and the Frenchman has more battery, and is using it to defend himself. 'So slow,' complains Verstappen of a car in deep traffic. 5.00pm CEST 17:00 26/52 Zak Brown of McLaren confirms that an appeal has gone in. Hamilton has overtaken Russell. These are his conditions. Discussions on the 10-second penalty within the McLaren pit. 4.57pm CEST 16:57 25/52 That's his punishment for his jiggery pokery behind the safety car. He's 10 seconds clear of Stroll, and 3.6 on Norris who is de facto leader. Verstappen is way back in 10th. Updated at 5.24pm CEST 4.56pm CEST 16:56 24/52 The McLarens are flying – three seconds per lap ahead of the rest. Could a penaly for Piastri hand it over to Norris? Russell and Hamilton do battle, the Ferrari comes wide, and Russell holds the line to go through. Antonelli has retired by the way. 4.54pm CEST 16:54 23/52 Piastri is under investigation for messing around by the safety car. Norris is second, Stroll is third, Hulkenberg fourth, Gasly fifth, Hamilton sixth. 4.52pm CEST 16:52 22/52 Just as the safety car departed, Verstappen spins off, Piastri and him were jousting. He's down in 10th. And then spins wide again, and is in 11th, before going past Ocon again. Did Piastri cause that? 'Whoa, mate! He just suddenly slows down.' Piastri in lumber? Verstappen was lucky not to get in a smash there. Updated at 5.00pm CEST 4.49pm CEST 16:49 21/52 'This puddle at turn two is a problem,' says Piastri. Does a red flag result? Antonelli comes in for a tyre change. His diffuser has gone after that Hadjar crash. Bits are coming off his car. Will he complete? No rear downforce. 4.47pm CEST 16:47 20/52 More safety car 'action', with plenty of spray. 4.44pm CEST 16:44 19/52 Hadjar smashes into the back of Antonelli. 'From out of nowhere, man,' says Hadjar. Hamilton is complaining he can't see anything. 4.43pm CEST 16:43 18/52 The spray is huge as they race. Russell overtakes Hamilton, and Ocon drops two places to ninth. Nobody can see much, surely. Piastri opens up a two-second lead on Verstappen as Norris closes – and Isack Hadjar crashes out. Oof, that was some prang, he's into the stands. Another safety car. 4.39pm CEST 16:39 17/52 Verstappen and Piastri jousting behind the safety car. George Russell asks why the race hasn't been stopped. The safety car is set to be removed, and we are going to race once more. 4.37pm CEST 16:37 16/52 Alonso, in 10th, is complaining about tyres and the pre-race change he made, as Lance Stroll is in fourth in the Aston Martin car.
