Jos Buttler has revealed an unheard Virat Kohli story where the Indian superstar shared his insecurities and struggles with him during IPL 2023.
Former England captain Jos Buttler has revealed that Virat Kohli once opened up to him about his 'insecurities' and the occasional feeling of not knowing 'how to play'. Buttler said Kohli gave him insights about his bad phases to help him temper his own expectations during the IPL 2023 season.
Buttler was the highest run-scorer in IPL 2022 (863 runs) but struggled to live up to extra expectations in the following year for the Rajasthan Royals. He took the opportunity of the team's practice with Royal Challengers Bengaluru to reach out to Kohli, who had an even more 'phenomenal' year in 2016 with a record 973 runs.
'I've played a lot against Virat," Buttler told Stuart Broad during 'For the Love of Cricket' podcast. 'He's a huge competitor, but I just thought that I'll ask him a couple of questions. He had just finished batting. The question was about how you manage expectations. I mean, there are more expectations on him than anyone in world cricket. He was so generous with his time, so helpful. He just had to say 'Maybe you had that one season. Accept that. Don't try and replicate it'. It's ok. Life is going to be fine," he added.
Buttler said he didn't have to push Kohli to get vulnerable and the feelings came out naturally.
'And then he started talking about some of the insecurities he sometimes has about his game and stuff like that. How he practices. I mean, this is arguably the best player of our generation, especially in white-ball and ODIs. I was so thankful for his time and grateful for his insights. Just amazed by the knowledge he had of my own game, what my work. He too is human. He said 'sometimes I pick up the bat and feel like I don't know how to play.' I feel that quite a lot so if he feels that too, it's ok," added Buttler.
Buttler now plays for the Gujarat Titans who qualified for the 2025 season's playoffs but couldn't make it past the Eliminator. Kohli's RCB, on the other hand, won their first title by beating Punjab Kings in the final.

No Virat Kohli, No MS Dhoni: Suresh Raina Reveals His All-Time World XI; Picks 4 Indian Players

In a surprising move that stirred debates among fans, former Indian all-rounder Suresh Raina unveiled his all-time World XI, leaving out two of India's most iconic cricketers, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli. The announcement came ahead of his participation in the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025, where he continues to play alongside Indian greats. Raina's Star-Studded World XI Raina's list reflects his admiration for classic cricketing legends and all-rounders who changed the game. His selected XI features a heavy dose of spinners and includes four Indian cricketing legends, but curiously misses out on two of the biggest names in recent Indian cricket history. Here's Suresh Raina's World XI: Openers: Brian Lara, Sachin Tendulkar Middle Order: Vivian Richards, Gary Sobers All-Rounders: Yuvraj Singh, Ian Botham, Andrew Flintoff Spinners: Shane Warne, Harbhajan Singh, Anil Kumble, Saqlain Mushtaq Impact Player: Paul Adams No Place for Dhoni or Kohli The omission of MS Dhoni, one of India's most successful captains and a legendary wicketkeeper-batsman, raised quite a few eyebrows. Similarly, Virat Kohli, a modern-day great and one of the top run-scorers across formats, was also missing from Raina's XI. Though Raina didn't explain his reasoning, the decision has led to an avalanche of fan reactions across social media platforms, with many questioning the logic behind such exclusions. WCL 2025 and the Legends' League Suresh Raina is currently participating in the WCL 2025 tournament as part of the India Champions squad, which includes other former stars such as Yuvraj Singh, Shikhar Dhawan, Harbhajan Singh, and the Pathan brothers. The league has brought together legends from different cricketing nations, making it a nostalgic and entertaining spectacle for fans worldwide.

"Do You Think I Am Jealous Of You?": Harbhajan Singh Asks R Ashwin. His Reply

Two of the greatest off-spinners that India has produced -- Ravichandran Ashwin and Harbhajan Singh -- have often been at the center of social media chatter over their 'unsaid rivarly'. Though Harbhajan and Ashwin played in different eras in the Indian team, a lot has been said and written about the love-hate relationship between the two. As Ashwin went on to conclude his career as India's second-highest wicket-taker, Harbhajan has often spoken about how the rank-turners in India have played to spinners' favour over the last 5-7 years. Some even claim that Harbhajan is jealous of Ashwin's achievements for the Indian team, considering the latter is also an off-spinner, by title. Sitting in front of each other in a video shared by the Tamil Nadu-born spinner, both decided to settle the social media chatter. "This whole jealousy bit, before I allow you to answer that, let me clarify something. People look at everything from their perspective. For example, if they are passing a comment on me, they believe that others would see the world through their eyes," Ashwin said on his YouTube channel in a 'Kutti Stories' teaser. "Their comments that you (Harbhajan) are jealous of this person who is interviewing you today (Ashwin), what would that be about, Bhajji pa?" he asked further. Ashwin said that the 'jealousy' angle comes from people's own perspective and mindset. Some feel their perspectives would be universal, but that isn't the case. "This whole jealousy bit, before I allow you to answer that, let me clarify something. People look at everything from their perspective. "Their comments that you (Harbhajan) are jealous of this person who is interviewing you today (Ashwin), what would that be about, Bhajji pa?" he asked further. "Do you think I am jealous of you? You are sitting with me today, and we have spoken at length. Do you think I am that kind of person?" asked Harbhajan. Ashwin gave quite an intriguing response to Harbhajan's counter question, saying even if he was jealous of him, the feeling was justified. He even gave his own example, saying some people feel he retired as Washington Sundar rose in the pecking order. "Even if you were jealous at one point in time, I think it's justified. That is my point, and I will never take it wrong because we are all human," said Ashwin. "Naturally, it is bound to be like that. Some people believe I retired because Washington Sundar is in the thick of things. All of this is the perspective of others," he added.

Watch: Nishant Dev Extends Perfect Pro Record With Technical Knockout Win Against LaQuan Evans

Indian boxer Nishant Dev extended his flawless run in the professional circuit, securing a Technical Knockout win over American LaQuan Evans in Frisco, USA. The 24-year-old halted the more seasoned Evans in the sixth round of their Super Welterweight bout on Saturday night, recording his third consecutive professional victory. Dev unleashed a flurry of unanswered punches that left Evans defenceless, prompting the referee to stop the contest at 1:58 in the sixth and final round. The fight was part of the undercard for the unification clash between WBC champion Jesse Rodriguez and WBO titleholder Phumelela Cafu. This latest win builds on Dev's earlier two knockout wins against American Alton Wiggins and Mexico's Josue Silva in January and June respectively. A bronze medallist in the light middleweight (71kg) division at the 2023 World Championships and among India's most consistent amateur performers, Dev turned pro earlier this year after a narrow quarterfinal loss to Mexico's Marco Verde at the 2024 Paris Olympic qualifiers. Now training under former pro Ronald Simms, Dev is signed with renowned promoter Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing.
