CM Siddaramaiah unveils quantum roadmap, skilling to start in 20 Karnataka colleges
BENGALURU: 'We want to empower our youth with next-gen skills and make Karnataka the talent engine for quantum innovation,' Chief Minister
Siddaramaiah
said on Wednesday. He kickstarted the Quantum India Bengaluru 2025 summit with a strong focus on building human capital.
Announcing that quantum skilling programmes will begin in over 20 colleges and 150 PhD fellowships will be supported annually, the CM said talent development would be the foundation of Karnataka's roadmap to become a global quantum hub.
Speaking at the summit organised by the Department of Science and Technology, in partnership with the
Indian Institute of Science
(IISc) and supported by the National Quantum Mission, Siddaramaiah outlined a five-point blueprint aimed at future development in the quantum field.

Talking about the use of quantum to an average citizen, the CM added: 'It enables early disease detection, secure communication, smarter farming, safer national security, and more efficient governance.'
Boseraju NS, minor irrigation, science and technology, said: 'We've already set up India's first quantum research park at IISc and supported 55 R&D projects and 13 startups. To continue this momentum, the Karnataka govt has sanctioned an additional Rs 48 crore and will build a world-class Quantum City in Bengaluru, aiming to create two lakh high-skilled jobs and capture 21% of the global quantum tech market by 2035.

Despite his success, the worsening waste situation in Jorhat tugged at his heartstrings, prompting his return in 2021. Back in Jorhat, Haque embarked on a mission to develop a structured waste management system. "We conducted a survey and found most waste was dumped in landfills. This led us to draft proposals and seek CSR funding," he says. After three years of relentless effort, Haque's initiative finally received the green light. Starting with two wards, Haque launched awareness campaigns to educate residents on waste segregation and encouraged them to use municipal collection services. His efforts paid off, transforming these areas into "dustbin-free zones" and eliminating notorious garbage blackspots. With funds from his work, Haque established a unit for storing dry waste, addressing a critical gap in the local waste management infrastructure. Today, Haque's team collaborates with other city-based NGOs in the waste management sector, with aspirations to expand their services to other districts. Farmer dies by suicide in Nidasosi
Belagavi: A farmer died by suicide after getting upset over the property auction process in Nidasosi village of Hukkeri taluk on Friday. It is said that the farmer was distressed after a private finance company, which gave him a loan, put up a notice in the village. He reportedly took a loan of Rs 9.9 lakh from a Mumbai-based private finance company and did not repay it on time. The finance company posted a notice in the village stating that his house would be auctioned for non-repayment. Additionally, this was made public in the village through an announcement in a rickshaw. According to police, the preliminary investigation revealed that the farmer Veerabhadra, who was depressed following the announcement in the village, may have died by suicide by hanging himself. Veerabhadra, who engaged in agriculture and animal husbandry, could not repay the loan on time due to the losses he incurred. It is learnt that he also sold his land. Basavanni Madannavar, the father of the deceased farmer, expressed his anger to the media, stating that the financier is responsible for his son's death. The deceased farmer is survived by his parents, wife, and five daughters. Sankeshwar police inspected the spot and registered a complaint.

Former Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik slams govt for scrapping metro project
Former Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik has lashed out at the BJP-led state government for scrapping the Bhubaneswar Metro Rail project . Patnaik, in a strongly worded post on X, called it a betrayal of the city's future. "The Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Project would have reshaped how the city moves. Now, the double-engine government has pushed it 10 years back," Patnaik wrote. The first phase of the Rs 6,255 crore project, from the airport to Trisulia, was greenlit during Patnaik's tenure and scheduled to complete by December 2027. But the project was shelved recently, with DMRC issuing termination notices to contractors. The BJP government defended the move, saying the earlier route wasn't viable and that a more expansive Puri-Bhubaneswar-Cuttack corridor is being planned. "We are preparing a new DPR and forming a committee to study similar metros. The revised plan will connect all major cities," said Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mohapatra .
