Man verbally abused and struck with dog lead in racist attack
It happened in the Divis Street area of west Belfast at about 13:20 GMT on Thursday.
The victim was treated in hospital for injuries to his arm.
Police Service of Northern Ireland Det Sgt McCartan said the assault was "prolonged" and appealed for information.
The victim was reportedly followed by another man with a dog, who subjected him to racial verbal abuse, police said.
He proceeded to follow the victim home while being verbally abusive and making threats.
The suspect then tried to enter the property while assaulting the man and striking him with a metal dog lead.
He eventually fled after a number of residents intervened, police said.

A car slammed into a crowd outside a Los Angeles nightclub early Saturday morning, injuring at least 30 people, before the driver was assaulted by onlookers and shot, the city's police and fire departments said. At least seven people were in critical condition and six others were seriously injured, the fire department said in an online statement. The incident, which took place outside a club called The Vermont, occurred just before 2 a.m. local time (0900 GMT), the fire and police departments said. Captain Adam VanGerpen, a fire department spokesperson, was quoted by ABC News as saying the car apparently first careened into a taco truck outside the club and then through a valet stand and into a large group of people. Officers responding to a radio call of an assault with a deadly weapon found the driver had been shot while being assaulted by onlookers, the police said, adding that he was taken to a hospital and his condition was unknown. A man suspected of shooting the driver fled the scene on foot and possibly was armed with a silver revolver, the police said.

Fire at Boston-area senior living facility kills at least nine
(Reuters) -A fire that broke out at an assisted living facility for the elderly near Boston on Sunday night killed at least nine people and injured 30 others, authorities said. About 70 people lived at the Gabriel House assisted living facility in Fall River, Massachusetts, where the fire broke out about 9:30 p.m. on Sunday (0130 GMT Monday), Jake Wark, a spokesperson for the Massachusetts Department of Fire Security, said on Monday. Wark said that about 50 firefighters responded to the incident in Fall River, about 60 miles south of Boston. The city opened a temporary shelter for surviving residents. Firefighters rescued numerous occupants of the facility, which is designed for older people to live independently with staff assistance, he said. Several residents were declared dead at the scene, while many others were transported to hospitals, and one person was in critical condition. Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey called the fire a tragedy and said the cause was being investigated. "My heart goes out to those who are waking up to the most horrific news imaginable about their loved ones this morning," she said in a statement. Fall River Fire Chief Jeffrey Bacon told the media that some people were hanging from windows when firefighters arrived, the Boston Globe reported. Gabriel House opened in 1999 and has 100 units, according to state data. More than 70 people arrested at UK protests over Palestine Action ban
LONDON - More than 70 people have been arrested at protests in England and Wales against campaign organization Palestine Action being designated a proscribed terror group. Protesters gathered for the second week in a row in central London after police reiterated that showing support for the group was a criminal offense, resulting in the Metropolitan Police making 42 arrests. A further 16 arrests were made in Manchester and 13 people were also held in Cardiff at other related demonstrations on Saturday. In London, two groups of protesters gathered underneath both the Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela statues in Parliament Square for the demonstration shortly after 1 p.m. The individuals then wrote the message "I oppose genocide, I support Palestine Action" with black markers on pieces of cardboard, and silently held the signs aloft as they were surrounded by Metropolitan Police officers and members of the media. Some demonstrators could be seen lying on top of each other on the floor as police searched their bags and took their ID cards and handmade signs. Officers could then be seen carrying away a number of protesters who were lying down, lifting them off the ground and into waiting police vans parked around the square. Other standing protesters were also led away from the statues and placed into the vans. The last of the protesters was lifted from the Nelson Mandela statue shortly after 2.30 p.m. (1330 GMT). All but one of the 42 arrests were for showing support for a proscribed organization, while one person was arrested for common assault, the Met said in a post shared on X. Greater Manchester Police said it had arrested 16 people under the Terrorism Act after responding to a protest in St. Peter's Square, Manchester, at around 2.30 p.m. on Saturday. South Wales Police also confirmed 13 people were arrested on suspicion of committing offenses under the same act during a protest in the vicinity of Central Square, Cardiff. Scotland Yard said its stance remains that officers will act where criminal offenses, including support of proscribed groups or organizations, are committed. The force added that this includes "chanting, wearing clothing or displaying articles such as flags, signs or logos." Police arrested 29 people at a similar protest in Parliament Square last weekend. The terrorist group designation means that membership of, or support for, Palestine Action is a criminal offense punishable by up to 14 years in prison. The move to ban the organization came after two Voyager aircraft were damaged at a Royal Air Force base on June 20, an incident claimed by Palestine Action, which police said caused about 7 million pounds ($9.4 million) worth of damage. Home Secretary Yvette Cooper announced plans to proscribe Palestine Action, saying that the vandalism of the planes was "disgraceful" and the group had a "long history of unacceptable criminal damage."
