'Mentally Ill' Tourist Breached Museum, Damaged Ancient Relics

Yahoo09-06-2025
A local tourist apparently suffering from a 'mental illness' caused chaos and destruction at the Terracotta Army Museum in X'ian, China, damaging several ancient statues of a Chinese ruler, Ancient Origins reported. The Terracotta Army statues were commissioned by emperor Qin Shi around 210 B.C. so that he could take with him an army to the afterlife. The army is composed of about 8,000 individual warriors, horses, chariots, entertainers, and officials, each of them designed with specific facial features and hand-painted in a variety of colors. Several statues were even provided with bronze weapons, an indication that their presence was not just ceremonial and that they would be doing battle for their emperor in the afterlife. The suspect, a 30-year-old man identified only as Sun, was reportedly visiting the museum when he scaled a fence and protective net, dropping into an 18-foot trench known as Pit No. 3 which contained two statues of Terracotta warriors. He apparently smashed several statues before security officials intervened and placed the suspect under arrest. Video taken of the aftermath shows the statues shattered on the ground.Authorities later said they believe Sun suffers from a 'mental illness,' adding that the matter is still under investigation. At this time, the museum is still open to the public, though the affected statues have been removed. However, the incident has raised questions regarding the Terracotta Army Museum's safety protocols. Museum officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Men's Journal.'Mentally Ill' Tourist Breached Museum, Damaged Ancient Relics first appeared on Men's Journal on Jun 9, 2025

Chinese exchange student, 13, charged with murdering 14-year-old

A 13-year-old Chinese exchange student has been charged with murder over the alleged stabbing death of a 14-year-old girl at a home in Newcastle, Australia. The 14-year-old, also an exchange student from China, was found with a single wound to her torso at Euston Close, Edgeworth, about 10:20 p.m. on Monday, after police were called to reports of a stabbing. She was treated by paramedics at the scene before being rushed to hospital in a critical condition. The younger girl will appear in a Children's court on Wednesday on the murder charge. Superintendent Tracy Chapman, commander of the Lake Macquarie Police District, said both girls were from China, having traveled to Australia as part of a program where they stayed with local residents who acted as hosts. 3 The stabbing victim was also an exchange student from China. 9News They were attending a local school and visiting locations around the Hunter area. 'They arrived in Australia eight days ago and were expected to depart Australia on the 16th of August,' Supt Chapman said. 'NSW Police continue to work with the program facilitators to ensure that all of the appropriate processes and notifications are being undertaken.' 3 The victim was treated by paramedics at the scene before being rushed to hospital before dying. 9News The two young girls were staying with the same hosts, a man and a woman. They had their own bedrooms. 'All parties had retired to their rooms for the evening when one of the hosts heard a commotion of some sort, and when she went to investigate, she located the 14-year-old.' Police are not aware of any relationship between the two girls and are investigating whether or not there was any history between them. 3 The 13-year-old will appear in a Children's court on Wednesday on the murder charge. ABC News (Australia) Superintendent Chapman said language barriers were a factor and they are working with the consulate as the girls were not Australian residents so there were 'obvious complications and complexities with that, which is why it's taken us some time to work through'. Police have taken possession of a kitchen knife.

TSMC arrests three after finding leaks of trade secrets

1 of 2 | On Tuesday, Taiwain Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd. took "strict" disciplinary action against 3 accused workers after a "routine monitoring" led to the discovery of a leak in valuable company trade secrets, TSMC officials confirmed. File Photo By David Chang/EPA Aug. 5 (UPI) -- Three Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. employees were taken into custody Tuesday after company officials detected "unauthorized activities" and a leak of its trade secrets related to "core technologies." TSMC, one of the world's largest computer chip manufacturers in Taiwan said it took "strict" disciplinary action against its accused workers and legal proceedings were launched after a "routine monitoring" led to the discovery, company officials told CNBC and The New York Times in a statement. "Such violations are dealt with strictly and pursued to the fullest extent of the law," it said. "We remain committed to safeguarding our core competitiveness and the shared interests of all our employees." TSMC previously indicated its internal system held over 200,000 "trade secrets" related to critical tech and data. According to sources familiar with the matter, multiple former TSMC employees are under suspicion of attempting to obtain the company's proprietary intellectual property related to 2-nanometer chip development and production. The company stated its "comprehensive and robust monitoring mechanisms" had identified the issue early which permitted TSMC officials to execute a swift internal investigation. TSMC's security breach arrived as the Chinese government met last week with Nvidia officials over potential security risks in an AI chip it developed for sale in China. TSMC is a leading global producer of advanced chips that has Apple and Nvidia among its client base. Company officials stated that TSMC "maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward any actions that compromise the protection of trade secrets or harm the company's interests." TSMC added it was unable to provide further information at the present time. In November, TSMC was part of a more than $6 billion deal with the U.S. Department of Commerce under then-President Joe Biden. The geopolitical stakes around Taiwan's semiconductor dominance have soared as China escalates military pressure, through increased fighter jet incursions, large-scale naval drills and explicit threats of reunification.
