India to export 150 locomotives to Africa worth over ₹3,000 crore
The Make-in-India locomotives are meant for use at the Simandou iron ore project site in the country, a spokesperson of Indian Railways said. 'The Railway Locomotive factory in Marhowrah, Bihar, will supply 150 Evolution Series ES43ACmi locomotives. Thirty-seven locomotives will be exported in the current financial year, while 82 locomotives will be exported in the next financial year. Another 31 locomotives will be exported in the third year,' the spokesperson said.
All these locomotives will have an air-conditioned cab (driver's compartment). 'Each loco will have a single cab, and two locomotives together will carry the load of 100 wagons with maximum permissible speed,' the spokesperson further said.
Three types of tracks, broad gauge, standard gauge and cape gauge, have been laid in Marhowrah Locomotive premises for manufacturing these locomotives. 'The project was secured via global competitive bidding,' the spokesperson added.
The 4,500-HP locomotives are equipped with alternating current (AC) propulsion, regenerative braking, microprocessor-based controls, and modular architecture.
'These locomotives are built with best-in-class emission standards, fire-detection systems, and ergonomic crew cabins with modern amenities like a refrigerator, microwave, and waterless toilet system,' the spokesperson said.
They are also fitted with Distributed Power Wireless Control System, or DPWCS, for synchronised operations and superior freight handling.
The Marhowrah Factory of Bihar directly employs 285 people, and a further 1215 people are getting indirect employment, the spokesperson added.

Cooper Corp, Sinfonia Tech launch joint venture to make LPG generator set
Engine maker Cooper Corporation on Thursday announced the official launch of its strategic joint venture with Japanese firm Sinfonia Technology to manufacture 10-kVA LPG generator sets at its Satara facility in Maharashtra. The latest emission norms (CPCB IV+)-compliant co-branded product will be jointly marketed across India and exported globally, Cooper Corporation said. The two companies had announced the partnership in June. The Cooper Sinfonia genset, CSG-0010L-IN, will be marketed in India under the brand name 'Daimon', named after the town where Sinfonia Technology is headquartered, while in the Japanese market it will be sold under the brand 'Satara', which also houses the over 100-year old Cooper Corporation's headquarters, the company said. Both partners will jointly market and distribute Daimon Genset across India and international markets, with a strategic emphasis on Asia, Africa and the Middle East, it added. "This partnership with Sinfonia Technology marks a purposeful step towards reshaping the energy landscape with cleaner, smarter solutions. The Daimon Genset reflects our belief that progress is driven by collaboration where Japanese precision and Indian engineering come together with intent," Cooper Corporation Chairman and Managing Director Farrokh N Cooper said. With CPCB IV+compliant and high-efficiency LPG gensets, the JV aims to help industries transition to sustainable and cost-effective power solutions without compromising on reliability or performance, he added. CPCB IV+ norms are India's most stringent emission standards aimed at combating air pollution and promoting sustainable energy. The Daimon Genset combines Japanese precision engineering with India's manufacturing prowess, creating a product that meets the highest international standards. The agreements were signed at the IN-SPACe headquarters in Ahmedabad in a tripartite arrangement involving NewSpace India Limited (NSIL), IN-SPACe, and the recipient move is aimed at enhancing industry participation across the upstream, midstream, and downstream space value chain while reducing dependence on imported technologies. IN-SPACe said the tech transfers will also accelerate indigenisation in critical domains such as satellite navigation, launch systems, ground station infrastructure, and geospatial intelligence Pawan Goenka, chairman of IN-SPACe, said, 'ISRO has a flourishing repository of R&D in space technologies, and it is time we leverage that to the optimum to strengthen India's space industrial ecosystem, and in that, industry-led innovation will play a key role.'Among the technologies transferred are laser gyroscopes and ceramic servo accelerometers developed by ISRO's Inertial Systems Unit, now licensed to Hyderabad-based Zetatek Technologies. The tech transfer makes it the first Indian firm to acquire such precision navigation the midstream segment, Hyderabad-based Avantel and Jisnu Communications received ground station solutions, which are currently sourced from foreign vendors. These include Ka/S/X tri-band feeds, antenna control systems, and multi-band Cassegrain Amnex Info Technologies received geospatial models for pest prediction and crop yield estimation, while Jalkruti Water Solutions was granted a portable bathymetry system, which is used to measure and map the depth of water bodies. Ramdev Chemicals acquired a ceramic-based flameproof coating developed at Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) for broader industrial companies will be offered end-to-end support for technology adoption by ISRO, IN-SPACe, and NSIL, ensuring successful adoption of the technology, the regulator said in a prepared statement.

The speech was Modi's final engagement of his visit to Ghana, the first by an Indian premier in three decades. Modi is visiting Ghana and Namibia in Africa during a five-nation tour that is part of New Delhi's expanding outreach to the Global South. India and Ghana agreed on Wednesday to ramp up cooperation in defence, food security and pharmaceuticals and to double two-way trade to $6 billion in five years. 'In these times of global uncertainty, India's democratic stability shines as a ray of hope. India's rapid progress is a catalyst for global growth. As the world's largest democracy, India is a pillar of strength for the world. A strong India will contribute to a more stable and prosperous world,' Modi said in a rare speech in English. A technological revolution, rise of the Global South and shifting demographics are contributing to rapid changes in the global order created after World War II, and the world is facing complex crises such as climate change, pandemics, terrorism and cybersecurity. 'Institutions created in the last century are struggling to respond. The changing circumstances demand credible and effective reforms in global governance,' he said. Modi emphasised progress isn't possible without giving voice to the Global South. 'We need more than slogans. We need action… We put emphasis on Africa's rightful place at the global high table,' he told a gathering that included Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama, vice president Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Speaker Alban Bagbin, MPs, representatives of political parties, diplomats and members of the Indian community. India, with its fast growing economy, stable polity and role as an innovation and technology hub, can help drive the progress of African nations. 'Africa's goals are our priorities. Our approach is to grow together as equals. Our development partnership with Africa is demand-driven,' Modi said. 'It is focussed on building local capacities and creating local opportunities. Our objective is not just to invest, but to empower… We have expanded our diplomatic presence to 46 countries across Africa. Over 200 projects across the continent enhance connectivity, infrastructure and industrial capacity,' he said. Welcoming Ghana's efforts to accelerate economic integration under the African Continental Free Trade Area, Modi pointed to the country's potential to become a regional IT and innovation hub. Modi quoted from both former Ghanaian president Francis Kwame Nkrumah and the Rig Veda to emphasise the shared democratic ideals of the two countries. Recalling Nkrumah's remarks that 'The forces that unite us are intrinsic and greater than the superimposed influences that keep us apart', he said that true democracy promotes discussion and debate, unites people and promotes human rights. The Rig Veda, he said, states 'let good thoughts come to us from all directions' and this openness to ideas is the core of democracy. 'This is also the reason that people who came to India have always been welcomed with open hearts. The same spirit helps Indians integrate easily wherever they go,' he added. Following the address, Modi interacted with Ghanaian MPs. Earlier, he paid tribute to Nkrumah at a memorial dedicated to the Ghanaian leader. 'He was a visionary statesman whose thoughts and ideals guide several people. He devoted himself towards the well-being of people of Ghana,' Modi said on social media.
