During the ceremony, Prof. Agamy honored the members of the Distinguished Employee Award's judging committee, including Mr. Majid Al Jarwan, Vice Chancellor for Public Relations, and Chair of the Support Staff Judging Committee; Aisha Al Ali, Chair of the Distinguished Employee Award Judging Committee; Dr. Mohammed Al Ansari; Shouq Ali; and Omar Mohammed.
The highlight of the event was the recognition of the award's winners, whose dedication and hard work have played a pivotal role in advancing the University's goals. Abdullah Zeil Al Hammadi from the College of Law received the award in the Administrative and Technical Staff category. In the Support Staff category, Ahmed Mousa and Khalil Rahman Habib from the Services Department were honored for their exemplary service.

University of Baghdad to establish AI-focused college
The University of Baghdad in Iraq will establish a college dedicated to artificial intelligence, according to a ministerial order issued on Monday. It comes as countries throughout the Middle East seek to become major players in the booming AI sector, which is at the centre of unprecedented investment and interest. Naeem Al Aboudi, Iraq's Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, said the decision to have a specific college at the University of Baghdad dedicated to AI was part of a larger 'strategic vision to develop the Iraqi academic system and keep pace with global digital and knowledge transformations'. According to the news release, the AI-focused portion of the University will begin in the upcoming academic year, and will focus on AI as it applies to 'engineering, biomedical applications and big data'. Estimates indicate that between 60,000 and 70,000 students are enrolled in the University of Baghdad. In common with other countries in the Middle East, Iraq sees AI as an opportunity to diversify its economy away from oil. Experts warn, however, that AI could disrupt labour in the short term. Emphasising AI in universities is seen as a way to blunt the impact of labour disruption, helping to prepare students for a new economy. The University of Baghdad is not alone in its endeavour to formally incorporate AI into higher education. In 2019, before AI was dominating headlines, the UAE announced plans to establish of the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI), the world's first higher learning institution dedicated to AI. MBZUAI opened the following year. AI projects and programmes throughout the Middle East have helped to place a greater emphasis on the inclusion of Arabic and other cultural aspects that might have otherwise been left out of the technology development, which initially focused on English and Western data.

FUJAIRAH, UAE: His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, attended the closing ceremony of the third and final phase of Fujairah's Young Techpreneurs. He emphasised the importance of empowering youth and young generations with technological tools and digital knowledge, viewing them as essential to realising Fujairah's future vision and promoting comprehensive and sustainable development. H.H. Sheikh Mohammed also attended the graduation ceremony of the students who participated in the final phase of the initiative, which was launched in April 2025. Fujairah Young Techpreneurs is an initiative organised and overseen by the Office of the Crown Prince of Fujairah, in collaboration with Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University (HBMSU) H.E. Eng. Mohammed Hamza Al Qasim, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education, was also present at the ceremony. Furthermore, H.H. Sheikh Mohammed also underlined the significant attention Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Fujairah, places on investing in people and empowering future generations, including both youth and children across various fields. He also emphasised the importance of preparing technically and intellectually qualified national talents capable of actively contributing to Fujairah's development journey and building the nation's future while advancing the pillars of its growth. An exhibition featuring several technology projects developed by students across five main topics: health, tourism, education, community, and the economic sector, was also organised alongside the closing ceremony. Participants demonstrated their skills in Artificial Intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, programming and entrepreneurship. H.H. Sheikh Mohammed also toured the exhibition held alongside the ceremony, where students presented the results of the initiative and their interactive applications. During the closing ceremony, H.E.
