Perfect ‘Hollywood' teeth are making way for something more realistic
In many cultures, a gap between the front teeth is a sign of good fortune. If you have such a gap, then you're definitely in luck right now as natural-looking teeth are having a moment. According to Sydney cosmetic dentist Dr Michael Cai, dental aesthetics come in waves, just like fashion.
'In the '80s, Madonna had space between her front teeth, and Kate Moss in the '90s also had natural-looking teeth with gaps between them,' he says. 'The perfect Hollywood look was popular a few years ago as a status symbol, but there is a trend now towards a natural-looking smile and the 'anti-veneer' look. We have fewer clients looking for perfect white veneers and more clients looking for subtle enhancement.'
In a nod to natural-looking teeth, translucent ceramic veneers that mimic real tooth enamel are on the rise. Dr Cai says, 'During smile makeover consultations, the aim is for clients to articulate their personality and character. The objective is to achieve a pleasant and attractive smile that appears natural, as if no cosmetic dentistry has been performed.'
Cai is a big fan of White Lotus actor Aimee Lou Wood and her 'supersized smile'. In an interview with On Demand Entertainment, the British star said that her smile might have made it difficult for her to play a convincing American: 'No Americans have my teeth! I'd have to get veneers! It's the teeth that give us [British] away.'
Keira Knightley is another British actor with a well-developed sense of humour about her slightly wonky teeth. For evidence, look no further than her appearance on The Graham Norton Show, where she used her teeth to tap out Cher's hit Believe in front of Cher herself. Pure gold. The best way to care for teeth, no matter their shape or size, is to brush twice daily with a fluoride toothpaste and floss at least once a day to remove plaque and bacteria. 'Dental check-ups every six to 12 months are essential for early intervention and preventative care,' says Cai. 'Avoid aggressive brushing, which can lead to gum recession.
'Diet also plays a crucial role, so eat plenty of fruits, vegetables and dairy products and limit sugary food and drinks. Be mindful, too, of stain-inducing substances such as coffee, tea and red wine. And stay hydrated as this aids in naturally cleansing the mouth.'

I want to feel like a person who is something else besides a tennis player." Katie has regular lash lifts because she doesn't think her mascara would stand up to the intensity of her time on court. Asked her beauty essentials, she said: "Getting my LVL lash lift done. I don't want to wear mascara when I'm playing sports because I'm worried it'll streak everywhere. I've tried loads of tinted SPFs and they break me out, but since I discovered Shiseido Anessa suncare in Japan last year, it's the first thing I put on every day. It makes you look glowy but not too shiny."

‘We'd be delighted if members of the royal family were able to attend': Prince Harry's team goes off script during Invictus interview
Prince Harry's PR team has been dealt a curve ball after a representative for the Duke of Sussex's signature Invictus Games made a curious remark after being questioned about the royal family. Harry helped set up Invictus in 2014 as an Olympics-style international sporting event for injured and wounded servicemen and women across the globe. The first ever winter edition of the Invictus Games took place in Whistler and Vancouver in February this year and featured athletes from 23 different countries. The next edition of the Invictus Games is set to take place in 2027 in Birmingham, marking the event's return to Harry's native United Kingdom for the first time since the inaugural London games. Last week, Helen Helliwell, CEO of the Invictus Games in Birmingham, sat down with People magazine and revealed her hopes that Harry's estranged relatives will show up in Birmingham. The iconic American tabloid typically reports on the Sussexes positively and has been granted rare exclusives from Harry and Meghan. 'They've been supporters of Invictus since inception in 2014,' Ms Helliwell told the magazine. "Again, we're two years away, and it's too soon to confirm who's going to be there. 'But obviously, we'd be delighted if members of the royal family were able to attend and would very much welcome their presence in a couple of years' time.' While the royal family has supported Harry's signature organisation since its inception, no senior royals have appeared at any Invictus event since the Sussexes left royal duties five years ago. The entire monarchy also noticeably snubbed a major service in London to celebrate a decade of Invictus at St Paul's Cathedral last year. Instead, Harry was supported at the event by his uncle Earl Spencer and his aunt Lady Jane Fellowes from Princess Diana's side of the family. Meanwhile, Harry's wife Meghan Markle still allegedly refuses to return to the UK without an apology from the monarchy for perceived mistreatment. The comments come after fresh speculation the rift between Harry and King Charles is finally starting to thaw. Over the weekend, Harry's new chief communications officer, Meredith Maines, and UK-based PR rep Liam Maguire were photographed meeting with the King's top aide, Communications Secretary Tobyn Andreae, near Clarence House. The meeting, first revealed by The Mail on Sunday, reportedly had "no formal agenda" but there were "things both sides wanted to talk about".

Donald Trump's UK state visit date confirmed
King Charles will host Donald Trump at Windsor Castle in September. The US president and his wife Melania have accepted a formal invitation from the British monarch for an official state visit, with Buckingham Palace confirming the brief trip will take place between 17 and 19 September. However, the US leader will not have the honour of addressing Parliament because it will be in recess from the day of his arrival until mid-October. Trump is also not expected to visit Buckingham Palace, because it is currently being refurbished, or take a ceremonial carriage ride down the Mall in London, the Daily Telegraph reports. Similarly, last week's state visitors, French president Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte, also didn't visit the royal residence in the capital, but they did enjoy a carriage procession with the royals. The visit will coincide with the fourth anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's funeral on 19 September. Previous state visitors have paid tribute to the late monarch, with the French president laying a wreath on her tomb in St George's Chapel on his trip last week, while Japan's Emperor Naruhito left flowers there last June. Trump, Melania and his adult children previously enjoyed a state visit in June 2019 during his first presidency, with the 79-year-old business mogul enjoying tea with Queen Elizabeth at Windsor Castle. September's trip will make the president the first elected politician in modern history to be hosted by the British royal family for two state visits. Trump previously claimed that he had "a great relationship with the Queen" and they had a lot of "fun" together on his state visit. He told Fox news: "We were laughing and having fun. And her people said she hasn't had so much fun in 25 years. "Then I got criticised for it because they said we were having too much fun … I feel I know her so well and she certainly knows me very well right now, but we have a very good relationship with the United Kingdom." The former Apprentice star paid a heartfelt tribute to the late monarch following her death in 2022. He wrote at the time: "Melania and I are deeply saddened to learn of the loss of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Together with our family and fellow Americans, we send our sincere condolences to the Royal Family and the people of the United Kingdom during this time of great sorrow and grief. "Melania and I will always cherish our time together with the Queen, and never forget Her Majesty's generous friendship, great wisdom, and wonderful sense of humor. What a grand and beautiful lady she was—there was nobody like her!"
