To help you keep up, read our A-Z of modern dating lingo and know your DINKs from your kittenfishers.
A – Affordating: Low-cost dates, like a picnic in the park or a romantic stroll, if you can't afford fancy flowers and expensive meals.
B – Benching: Keeping a potential partner on the back burner while you pursue others.
C – Cuffing season: Spanning from October to just after Valentine's Day, this is the time it's deemed best to commit to a relationship.

D – DINK: Both working and you've got no kids? Lucky you — you're a DINK. The acronym stands for 'dual income, no kids'.
E – Ethical non-monogamy: It's not cheating if you talk about it first — or so say believers in this dating style, where couples agree to have other partners.
F – FLR: A 'female led relationship' sees traditional gender roles flipped. Women make the majority of the decisions or earn the most money. It should hardly be worthy of comment in 2025!
G – Green flag: The opposite of red flag, this term is used by Gen Z for positive qualities in a romantic partner, such as being a good listener, sharing interests or getting on with your friends.
H – Hard launch: Not just for celebs, this is where one or both partners confirm the relationship on social media with pics or a status change.
I – Ick: Olivia Attwood made the term popular on the 2017 series of Love Island. Getting the ick involves developing a sharp revulsion towards a potential or current partner.
The things i've learned as a gen-z traveller
J – Jekylling: When someone shows you their 'best self' at first, but later reveals a much darker or toxic side. Named after alter-egos Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.
K – Kittenfishing: If catfishing is creating a completely fake online ID, then kittenfishing is its less extreme cousin. It involves, for example, using old photos or exaggerating qualities.
L – Love bombing: Showering a potential partner with excessive affection and gifts early in a relationship.
M – Micro-cheating: Any blurred-line interactions which could be seen as cheating, such as private messaging someone of the opposite sex without your partner knowing or even liking their Insta snaps.
N – Negging: Using insulting or negative comments about someone.
O – Orbiting: Being ghosted means never hearing from someone again — but an 'orbiter' is an ex who lurks, watching your social media.
P – Pocketing: When a date avoids introducing you to friends and family or posting about you on social media, keeping you 'in their pocket'.
Q – Quiet quitting: The act of emotionally disengaging from a relationship without actually ending it.
R – Rizz: Shorthand for the word charisma, rizz is the ability to charm and attract someone using confidence, style or good chat.
S – Ship: To ship two people means you're rooting for them to be together.
T – Talking stage: The period before a couple commit to a relationship, but do have some level of romantic or sexual involvement — which, confusingly, often goes beyond just talking.
U – Undercover dating: Otherwise known as sneaking around, this is when you keep a relationship secret as you get to know each other.
V – Vibe check: Basically a first date, and a chance to check if you click.
W – Win: A successful move in dating or flirting, like scoring a kiss.
X – Xennial dating: The outdated practices of Gen X and millennials. If you prefer face-to-face to WhatsApp and have never used Hinge, this term may well apply to you.
Y – Yassify: To make yourself look good to impress.
Z – Zombieing: When someone who ghosted you suddenly reaches out, it's like they are back from the dead — hence, zombieing.

Inside Celebrity SAS star Adam Collard's 'dream' relationship with partner
Adam Collard is back on the small screen tonight with a new season of Celebrity SAS, but the prolific reality TV star also enjoys a high-profile romance. The Love Island star, 29, made a name for himself on various dating shows until he met 38-year-old football presenter Laura Woods, best known as the face of ITV's Euros coverage over the past two years. Laura shone when she presented coverage of the 2023 Women's World Cup for the channel. Not only that, but she is also a TNT Sports and Amazon Prime Video presenter after spending several years as a boxing pitch-side reporter with Gary Neville on Sky Sports. Meanwhile, as well as stints on Love Island and Celebs Go Dating, Adam is also a fitness guru and founder of Sculpt Fitness. But what has he said about his long-term relationship with partner Laura Woods? Fitness coach and former Islander (in 2018 and 2022) Adam, 28, has been dating Laura since 2023. They confirmed their romance by making things Instagram official in October 2023. It was Celebs Go Dating star Adam who revealed he actually slid into Laura's DMs first but left her on read after she replied. However, sparks started to fly once they met in person and things got pretty serious rather quickly, with Adam declaring her 'the one' as their relationship became public knowledge. The couple frequently share loved-up photos together, with Adam sharing a sweet photo dump in May dedicated to his girlfriend, which he dubbed 'a little bit of everything'. It included photos of them on holiday together, training together and with the dog, with plenty of cuddles in between. In July 2024, the pair shared the happy news that they were expecting their first baby together. Just weeks later, in September, they took their relationship to the next step by getting engaged. At the start of this year, Adam and Laura celebrated the birth of their baby boy, Leo Ernie Collard, as friends and family flooded their social media with warm wishes. In an interview with the Mirror, Adam said about his fiancée: 'She's amazing and we are having a lot of fun. It feels like I'm living the dream. 'I would never get in a relationship with someone at least at one point [unless] I thought they were The One.' And when asked about the age gap by OK! Magazine, added: 'Perhaps that's what I've always been seeking: an older woman. 'It's something that works for me. But Laura isn't really an 'older woman'. If you meet her and spend time with her… I've dated younger people who don't act as maturely as she does! Age never factored into our relationship, it's been smooth sailing from the start.' Elsewhere in the same chat, he spoke about his dreams to be his children's 'best friend' like he was with his father and plans to have no more than two kids otherwise he 'might stuggle'. The pair have also faced hardships in their relationship, as Adam opens up about on the Celebrity SAS. He explained that Laura had been 11 weeks pregnant when she experienced a miscarriage (she felt pregnant with their son Leo a month later). Reflecting on the impact of miscarriage, he said: 'I know it's a terrible way to look at it, but I felt like it was bad karma for me being on dating shows and upsetting too many people. 'I felt like that was some high power's way of being like, 'Well, there you go, that's what you have to carry',' he said, per the Mail Online. He added that he was a 'love rat jumping from girl to girl. I want to show I'm not that man any more.' Prior to Adam being her boyfriend, Laura had a long-term relationship with a professional athlete. She dated former England rugby player Alex Corbisiero for eight years. Meanwhile, Adam's exes include Zara McDermott, who he was coupled up with during his first stint on Love Island in 2018, before moving onto an on-off relationship with Sarah Godfrey. His second appearance on Love Island in 2022 saw Adam pair off with paramedic Paige Thorne, with the relationship continuing for a few months outside of the villa, while he also had a fling with model Lottie Moss, Kate Moss's younger sister, after they appeared together on Celebs Go Dating. In May 2024, Laura sustained gruesome injuries from a freak pillow accident forced her 'off the tele' and to miss anchoring Tyson Fury's fight with Oleksandr Usyk for TNT Sports. The popular presenter required emergency surgery after a glass lampshade shattered above her and the glass cut her face and arms, narrowly missing her eyes. She explained at the time that the incident happened as she swung a pillow at a holiday cottage. In her post revealing her injuries she praised Adam 'for being my hero that day' as he acted 'so quickly' and didn't leave her side. Laura also praised the doctors who treated her as she continued: 'I've added in the photos from then to now to show that even though it may look rough, it's such a wonderful improvement already and I'm so grateful. More Trending 'It was a hell of a shock and I've been a bit sad, but I'm feeling very lucky it wasn't worse. So a big thanks to my eyebrow too, for taking the brunt of it.' Adam later angrily hit back at trolls who alleged he had hit his girlfriend, telling one commenter to 'shut up' and 'read her Instagram post'. Airing across eight one-hour episodes, the seventh series of Celebrity SAS can be streamed or watched live every Sunday and Monday on Channel 4, starting on August 3. Love Island fans figure out when villa divide happened as they reveal exact moment the girls turned on each other
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) LOVE Island fans think they have figured out exactly when the villa divide came to fruition. Loyal ITV2 viewers took to social media as they revealed the exact moment the girls started to turn on each other. Conor Phillips and Megan Forte-Clarke were also dumped from Love Island, just days before the grand finale. This may have signalled the end of the highly-publicised villa divide between the girls. Millions of viewers have watched the likes of Toni Laites and Shakira Khan clash with Helena and Meg Moore. Things got especially heated when Harry Cooksley's head was turned back to Shakira after he made his partnership with Helena 'exclusive'. But one viewer noticed that the divide came about a long time before the infamous Grafties ceremony. On fan forum platform Reddit, one informed fan noticed that the girls were splitting in the villa all the way back in episode two of the 2025 series. A throwback clip posted on the platform, in a thread titled 'Episode 2- the start of the divide'. In the video, Shakira made a new best friend in Toni after her bombshell arrival and the duo gossiped together by the firepit. This was as Alima Gagigo, Sophie Lee, Megan, Helena, and Meg were all sitting together in a separate part of the villa. Watch as girls go head-to-head in furious Love Island clash and vow NEVER to speak outside the villa Shakira told the Las Vegas cabana server that she felt like she was judged from the rest of the girls for chatting with so many of the boys so early on. She remarked: "I'm not joking, getting ready then the vibes felt so off. "So it's not enough to like pick up on and say something about because it's nothing that is being said, but it's the energy. Toni replied: "You know everyone is interested in you." Then Shakira stated: "I've been grafting, but I feel like the girls don't appreciate that. "But equally what's stopping them from doing the same thing? We've all been here [only] a day. She added: "Like, I think I have a right to get to know everybody." Meanwhile in the separate sofa area, Meg remarked: "The problem is, thinking of what Maya said last night, I think it is in Shakira's court. It's not enough to like pick up on and say something about because it's nothing that is being said, but it's the energy Skaira Khan "That's why she's been grafting her f****** a*** off today." To which Helena sarcastically responded: "I think she fancies everyone doesn't she?" She jokingly added: "She probably fancies the plants!" Captioning the preview, the fan wrote: "Is this when the 'bullying' started? LOVE ISLAND 2025 - ALL the dumped stars so far LOVE Island 2025 is in its penultimate week. In the captions below, fans seemed to concur that this was the moment the villa divide started. One fan posted: "Yep the twist of Shakira being single and having to graft the boys to stay def started the divide." While a second added: "I'm no Shakira-Harry fan, but as a guy, it always came across to me that jealousy was a primary motivator in those in the villa that disliked her." 7 As the girls all sat together, Shakira and Toni chatted by the fire pit Credit: ITV2 7 Shakira said the vibe between all the girls was 'off' Credit: ITV2 7 Helena made a cutting remark about Shakira in the second episode Credit: ITV2 7 Megan Forte Clarke giggled away as Helena and Meg both gave their opinions Credit: ITV2 7 Toni seemed to pick up on the energy after Shakira made her remarks Credit: Shutterstock Editorial Love Island continues on ITV2 and is available to stream on ITVX.

Love Island's Amber Davies hits out at 'selfish' audience member in middle of musical
Love Island winner Amber Davies spoke out over a 'selfish' audience member at a performance of the Great Gatsby musical this week, with her issuing a warning to fans Theatre star Amber Davies hit out at a "selfish" member of the audience in the middle of the Great Gatsby musical this weekend. The Love Island winner shared a message for fans after someone "ruined" part of her performance. Amber, 28, is among the cast of the West End production of the acclaimed show, based on the novel of the same name, at the London Coliseum. The actor plays Jordan Baker, whose songs include New Money, in the limited run. During last night's show, Amber issued a warning to those attending the musical after being distracted by someone in the audience. It comes after Taylor Swift sparks engagement rumours as fans spot Travis Kelce's lock screen READ MORE: Strictly's Anton Du Beke shares heartbreak over wife's 'cruel and inexplicable' diagnosis Amber filmed the message on her Instagram Story whilst backstage. The performer, who is starring alongside the likes of Corbin Bleu and Rachel Tucker in the show, hit out over "selfish" behaviour from some people in theatres. She said in the video: "This is a PSA. The closer you are to the stage when you're watching a show the more obvious it is when you're filming. This is the entire stalls." She then clarified: "If you're filming in the stalls we can see you!" The Dancing on Ice star went on to share what she can see whilst performing, saying: "From someone who's on stage, I just wanna tell you a little bit about what we see. So we see like a dark canvas and outlines of people's heads." Amber continued: "If you're filming, the reflection from the lights bounce straight back off your ... the back of your iPhone onto us on stage. So it is the one thing we can see." She then criticised one particular audience member. She said: "So to the woman filming New Money tonight - you distracted absolutely everybody on that stage. And not only that, it takes us out of the Gatsby world because you're filming and you've basically ruined that moment for everybody else who was watching the show tonight." Amber urged: "Please don't be selfish. Stop filming shows." She added: "If someone is filming during a show know that this is the consequences that it has to the people on stage and tell them to stop because honestly it's annoying." The former islander continued: "Also, I single-handedly will count how many seats back you are and tell our stage manager where you're sitting and what colour hair you've got, and trust me, in the interval they will come and ask you to delete the footage so you've basically done it for nothing." Amber concluded the message by telling her followers that she would be returning to stage shortly for the second act, confirming that she was filming the video in an interval. She said: "Okay, I'm gonna enjoy act two now."
