Malaysia moved up two places to 31st in the global country rankings and 9th in the Asia Pacific region, while Kuala Lumpur jumped six spots to 26th in the World City Rankings.
Advertisement In a statement, the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (the Centre) said that the rankings were supported by Malaysia hosting 129 international association meetings, with the Centre accommodating some of the city's 78 international association meetings that year. 'To promote the global profile of both Malaysia and Kuala Lumpur, the Centre maintains a strong partnership with the Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) —- an agency under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture —- regularly collaborating at international trade shows to attract business events to the country. 'In the first half of 2025, the Centre was part of MyCEB's delegation at the Asia-Pacific Incentives and Meetings Event (AIME) 2025 in Melbourne and IMEX in Frankfurt,' it said. Key international trade shows on MyCEB's calendar that the Centre will also participate in later this year include The Meetings Show in London and the Incentives, Business Travel and Meetings (IBTM) in Barcelona. The Centre also said that as global business environments evolve, so too have delegate needs and expectations. It believes that flexibility is essential to meeting these demands, with personalisation and technology being key enablers in delivering effective solutions. Its general manager, John Burke, said the Centre's newly refurbished meeting spaces feature hybrid technology and upgraded audio-visual infrastructure, while a new shared workspace concept has also been launched to support delegates needing a convenient place to catch up on work and life between sessions. He said that with Kuala Lumpur International Airport, served by 79 airlines and visa-free access for 175 countries, Malaysia provides the great connectivity that global business events demand. 'On top of that, we have a mature supply chain aligned with global standards, wide English proficiency, and a favourable exchange rate. 'Combined with its rich cultural heritage and natural assets, Malaysia is a competitive choice,' said Burke. The Centre is located in the heart of the Kuala Lumpur City Centre precinct, beneath the iconic Petronas Twin Towers. Aussie customers shattered as popular chips brand Tyrrell's withdrawn from major retail chains
A popular brand of potato chips has left shelves at major Australian supermarkets, leaving customers disappointed over their sudden disappearance. A fan of the crisps took to Reddit on Thursday to reveal they had been removed from Woolworths, Coles and IGA stores and expressed their frustration that they had received no warning. "Gone from their shelves without warning or even clearance tags. Didn't even get a chance to stock up," the person posted. "It's nothing to do with a product recall. The major supermarkets have simply stopped carrying the range and the Tyrrell's range is now being sold through a wholesaler to independent stores. "These were f***ing good, made in Australia with Aussie potatoes, and at $3.80 for 165g. Price does what it says, without stupid price hikes and fake offers. Maybe Colesworths couldn't deal with a product that didn't play their game." Fellow fans of the chips were saddened to hear they could no longer find them in the major supermarkets. "Damn, that's really disappointing. They were the best chips on the shelves," one said on the Reddit post. "Absolutely unacceptable. These are the only good chips. Proper Chips are also very good but require a second mortgage to purchase," another said. "WHAT! OUTRAGE! They were the only chips I bought," a third commented. Coles confirmed to it no longer stocked Tyrrell's crisps. The brand, which produces flavours of crinkly crisps such as mature cheddar and chives, sea salt and vinegar, and lightly sea salted, is one of the most popular snack food brands in the UK. Its investment in Yarra Valley Snack Foods was the first outside the UK. The items can no longer be found on the Coles website and is listed as "out of stock" on the Woolworths website. In 2016, it chose Victoria as its base to expand its brand into the Australian and Asia Pacific Markets. has reached out to Snackbrands Australia for comment.

Trump agrees to small reduction in Philippine tariffs
US President Donald Trump agreed Tuesday to reduce threatened tariffs on the Philippines, but only by one percentage point, after what he termed a successful meeting with his counterpart Ferdinand Marcos. Welcoming Marcos to the White House, Trump called him a "very tough negotiator" and said: "We're very close to finishing a trade deal -- a big trade deal, actually." In a social media post shortly afterward, Trump said that while the Philippines would open up completely to US goods, he would still impose a 19 percent tariff on products from the Southeast Asian country, a major exporter of high-tech items and apparel. "It was a beautiful visit, and we concluded our Trade Deal, whereby The Philippines is going OPEN MARKET with the United States, and ZERO Tariffs," Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform. The Philippines was among two dozen economies confronted by Trump with letters this month warning of 20 percent tariffs on all goods coming into the United States as of August 1. The 19 percent rate is still above the 17 percent threatened by Trump in April, when he threatened sweeping global tariffs. The trade rift comes despite increasingly close defense relations between the United States and the Philippines, a former US colony and treaty-bound ally that has seen high tensions with China. The United States last year, under Trump's predecessor Joe Biden, deployed ground-launched missiles in the Philippines. Washington has also eyed ammunition manufacturing in the Philippines, despite the closure in 1992 of the US naval base at Subic Bay due to heavy public pressure. "All of what we consider part of the modernization of the Philippine military is really a response to the circumstances that surround the situation in the South China Sea," Marcos said next to Trump. Trump devoted much of the appearance to attacks on his Democratic predecessors Biden and Barack Obama. "We are essentially concerned with the defense of our territory and the exercise of our sovereign rights," said Marcos. "Our strongest, closest, most reliable ally has always been the United States." - Trump eyes China visit - China and the Philippines have engaged in a series of confrontations in the contested waters of the South China Sea, which Beijing claims almost entirely, despite an international ruling that the assertion has no legal basis. Trump has frequently questioned allies over their military spending, pondering why the United States should defend them in the NATO alliance. He has voiced fewer doubts about the Philippines. Both Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Secretary of State Marco Rubio in meetings with Marcos on Monday vowed to honor the 1951 Mutual Defense Treaty with the Southeast Asian nation. Trump added the Philippines had been "maybe tilting toward China" and "we untilted it very, very quickly." "I just don't think that would have been good for you," Trump said. The US president credited himself with the shift, although the turn towards Washington began after the 2022 election of Marcos, before Trump returned to power. Marcos's predecessor Rodrigo Duterte had flirted with closer relations with China and bristled at US criticism over human rights under Biden and Obama.
