Amit Shah lays foundation stones for NFSU campus, Central Forensic Science Lab in Nava Raipur
Mr. Shah, who is on a two-day visit of the State during which he will tour a security camp and chair meetings on ongoing anti-Maoist operations, was accompanied by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Assembly Speaker Raman Singh and Ministers.
The State Government has allotted 40 acres of land for the NFSU campus, which will be built by the Centre at a cost of ₹400 crore, informed Deputy CM Vijay Sharma, who also holds the Home portfolio in the Sai Cabinet.
The Central Forensic Science Lab will come up on 6-7 acres of land near the NFSU campus, he added.
Later in the day, Mr. Shah will chair a meeting of Director Generals of Police (DGPs) and Additional DGPs of Chhattisgarh and six neighbouring States on anti-Maoist operations, after which he will take part in a meeting on the security situation and ongoing operations against Left Wing Extremism, Mr. Sharma said.
Mr. Shah will also meet the family members of Additional Superintendent of Police Akash Rao Girpunje who lost his life after a pressure IED planted by Maoists exploded on June 9, the Deputy CM informed.
On Monday (June 23), Mr. Shah will visit a Border Security Force (BSF) camp in Narayanpur district, where he will interact with security personnel and Maoism-affected villagers.
He will also take a ground review of the development works going on there, Mr. Sharma added.
Anti-Maoist operations have intensified in Chhattisgarh since the BJP came to power after the 2023 Assembly polls.
Since January last year, more than 400 Maoist ultras have been gunned down by security forces in separate encounters.
The most notable was the killing of Nambala Keshav Rao alias Basavaraju (70), the general secretary and top most operative of the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist), in Bastar on May 21.
Mr. Shah has repeatedly declared that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Centre and State Government are committed to eradicating Maoism by March 31, 2026.

With Shah's counsel, Bengal BJP gets down to drawing Assembly poll roadmap
Allaying concerns over Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, countering the Trinamool Congress's (TMC) narrative on language and culture, and an emphasis on women's security and other issues will be the BJP's focus as it heads towards the crucial Assembly elections in West Bengal next year. West Bengal BJP president Samik Bhattacharya, the party's national general secretary in charge of the state, Sunil Bansal, and other senior leaders met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi on Monday to apprise him of the situation in the state at the moment and discuss the party's poll strategy. Shah is learnt to have instructed the state unit to prepare for the SIR, an exercise already underway in Bihar amid the Opposition's protests that it will lead to disenfranchisement of millions. West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC chairperson Mamata Banerjee has said she will not allow the Election Commission (EC) to conduct the voter verification drive. The TMC has referred to the SIR as 'silent intensive rigging' and linked it to the proposed National Register of Citizens (NRC). The party's Krishnanagar MP Mahua Moitra is among those who have moved the Supreme Court challenging the SIR. The BJP has not denied the benefit of an SIR, saying it will weed out ineligible voters from the rolls. It has accused the TMC of taking advantage of an inflated voter list over the years. At the meeting, it was discussed that the party should ensure a significant presence of its workers for political messaging at the booth level when the SIR is conducted. It is learnt that Shah advised the state leadership to take steps to ensure there is no panic over the exercise. 'Stop Trinamool's misinformation' The Home Minister is also learnt to have emphasised that the state unit should 'clearly communicate' to people that the BJP is against infiltration and not Bangla or Bengalis. With Bangla speakers getting detained in several BJP-ruled states on suspicion of being undocumented Bangladeshi immigrants, the TMC has accused the party of linguistic profiling. On July 27, Mamata Banerjee launched a statewide 'Bhasha Andolon (language movement)' to protest against the alleged harassment. The BJP has since shot back at the CM, accusing her of 'manufacturing issues' ahead of the Assembly polls that are less than a year away. Samik Bhattacharya has alleged that Mamata is more interested in 'protecting Bangla-speaking infiltrators from Bangladesh'. At the meeting, the BJP leaders discussed the TMC-fuelled narrative that portrays the party as one of 'outsiders', something that has damaged the party in previous elections. To stop this misinformation from spreading, state BJP leaders had been asked to organise public outreach programmes, sources said A senior leader who attended the meeting said it was agreed that women-related issues should be at the centre of the party's campaign. The consensus was that there should be a focus on women's safety in the wake of the R G Kar rape-murder case and the recent case of alleged rape at a law college in Kolkata in which a member of the TMC's student wing is the main accused. Another BJP functionary said the party would also focus on the Central government's initiatives for the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities. 'An all-out effort must be made to win the 2026 elections in Bengal. The party is working on it. We have been told that we must communicate how much the BJP has worked for the SC/ST communities,' said the leader. The meeting with Shah came just days after the Bengal BJP started the process to form 43 organisational district committees. In March, the party had announced the names of 39 district presidents. On July 18, Prime Minister Narendra Modi set the tone for the party's election campaign in his address at a massive rally in Durgapur in Paschim Bardhaman district. After launching several development projects, Modi lashed out at the TMC government and accused it of enabling 'infiltration' and hindering the state's development through corruption and violence. 'The TMC is actively helping infiltrators. I want to say this very clearly that those who are not the citizens of India and have entered illegally will be dealt with fairness in accordance with the Constitution.' Since recording its best-ever electoral performance in Bengal in the 2019 Lok Sabha election — winning 18 of 42parliamentary seats — the BJP has struggled to provide a sustained challenge to the TMC. In 2021, though it increased its tally to 77 seats, only five years after opening its account in the 294-member Assembly, organisational reverses and infighting set it back, and in the Lok Sabha elections last year its tally dropped to 12. The party has been hamstrung by internal feuds over the years and is attempting to overcome these challenges to effect a turnaround under Bhattacharya.

‘Can't be subjected to harassment in this manner': Delhi HC raps GST dept over raids at advocate's office
Expressing disapproval over the raids conducted by the GST (Goods and Service Tax) department in the office of a practicing advocate, the Delhi High Court recently observed that 'advocate cannot be subjected to harassment in this manner' unless there is prima facie evidence with the tax body, reflecting the lawyer's involvement in alleged illegality. A division bench of Justices Prathiba Singh and Shail Jain, made the observation on July 28, while hearing a petition moved by the advocate Puneet Batra, challenging the GST department's search at his office on July 25. During the search, a Central Processing Unit (CPU) with 1250 GB of data was seized by the department. In his petition, Batra dubbed the seizure of the CPU and other documents by the tax body as illegal. The bench, in its order, had also sought the GST department's response to the petition. The case stems from a string of GST summons issued to Batra's tax consulting firm, M/s. Bass Legal LLP, in relation to their engagement with the gaming company Martkarma Technology. Batra's firm had been offering legal services to Martkarma since 2023. Martkarma's premises were subjected to a GST inspection on 4th to 5th September 2024. Batra, a member of the Delhi High Court Bar Association, claims that his team dropped the gaming firm as a client on September 6, 2024, after failing to contact them. Despite withdrawing legal representation, Batra notes, that he received a summons on September 22, 2024, to appear before the Anti-Evasion Branch, CGST (Central Goods and Services Tax ), Delhi East. In his reply, Batra stressed that he was merely a lawyer for the client, and the same was taken on record by the GST department. A few days later, on October 1, 2024, Batra received a second summons by the GST office, seeking his appearance. In response, Batra had sent a written representation at the time. The advocate notes that on June 10, he received the third summons, directing his appearance on June 12, which he failed to appear as he was travelling. The GST office on June 26, issued a fourth summons to Batra, asking him to appear on June 27, which he obliged to. Subsequently, on July 25, the Anti-Evasion Branch, CGST Delhi East, conducted a search at his firm. Days after the raid, a summons was again issued to Batra, to appear before the GST Department on July 28. Seeking the court's protection, Batra had argued before the bench that he had merely represented his client, and the GST Department is not empowered to resume any documents and seize his CPU. While referring to the summons and subsequent office raid, the bench, observed that an advocate cannot be subjected to harassment in this manner 'unless and until there is some material for the GST Department to show that the advocate himself is not merely representing his client but is also personally involved in the alleged illegality,' It it reiterated that for the same, some prima facie material would have to be shown by the GST Department. While underlining that the documents provided by a client to his lawyer are purely confidential and are protected by attorney-client privilege, the bench noted that it needs to be 'first satisfied as to in what manner a search and seizure was conducted'. In a relief to the advocate, the bench directed Batra that he need not appear before the GST department for the summons. The bench also ordered the GST department not to open the CPU. 'So far as the CPU is concerned, since it could consist belongings of other clients of the Petitioner, the same shall not be opened in any manner and the contents of the said CPU shall not be downloaded by the GST Department without the presence of the Petitioner or any of his Authorised Representative,' the court observed.
