Xbox handheld prices accidentally leaked by Asus and they're super expensive
Last month's Xbox games showcase saw Microsoft officially announce two new handheld devices in collaboration with Asus, called the ROG Xbox Ally and the ROG Xbox Ally X.
The handhelds are basically Xbox-branded variations on Asus's existing ROG Ally gaming devices, albeit with some improvements over the original models; namely a better processor (AMD Ryzen Z2 A) and improved battery life.
Asus and Microsoft are yet to officially announce a price or release date for the ROG Xbox Ally, but it seems the former has been revealed early, and by a very reliable source.
As spotted by Spanish gaming website 3DJuegos, the prices for the ROG Xbox Ally and the ROG Xbox Ally X popped up in a localised Google search for the region, with two listings being pulled from an Asus store located in Barcelona.
According to these listings, the cheaper ROG Xbox Ally will be priced at €599, while the ROG Xbox Ally X will be €899. The latter is the same price as the ROG Ally X in Europe, which launched last year, so if this price is true, the higher-end model will likely be £799 in the UK.
That means the €599 price for the cheaper model would likely equate to £499, which is £100 less than the original ROG Ally. Although the original is currently on sale for £449 and, given it first launched in 2023, the release of the Xbox version may result in a blanket price cut to £499.

These prices are yet to be confirmed but they line-up with a previous leak from insider eXtas1, although it remains to be seen if it could be priced higher in certain territories in the wake of US tariffs. More Trending
As high as it is, the leaked price makes sense, as it doesn't undercut the current price for the ROG Ally X, which Asus wouldn't want to do.
In comparison to the ROG Xbox Ally, the more expensive ROG Xbox Ally X comes with a better 'extreme' processor, 24GB over 16GB of memory, 1TB over 512GB of storage, improved battery life, and a Thunderbolt 4 compatible USB4 display port.
According to previous leaks, Microsoft is looking to launch these devices in October, with pre-orders set to go live in August. This could mean we see some sort of announcement at Gamescom, which takes place in Cologne, Germany from 20-24 August.

Candy Crush developers replaced by the AI tools they helped make
Concerns that Microsoft's layoffs at Xbox would lead to developers being replaced by AI seem to have been proven true, starting with mobile developer King. Science fiction has been warning about the dangers of AI for decades and while emotionless robots taking over the world isn't currently a problem, soulless company executives replacing all their staff with incompetent AI tools definitely is. Of course, that's not quite how they put it, especially Microsoft, which is obsessed by the technology and insists that it can help gaming as much as anything else. After the most recent round of layoffs, many suspected they were intending to replace the thousands of vacated positions with AI tools and that's now been confirmed at Candy Crush Saga developer King. Despite being highly profitable, King was one of the first studios to report layoffs, earlier in the month, and now former staff have described how the AI tools they helped train have now replaced them. Around 200 staff are believed to have been cut at King, which has offices in Stockholm and London, with many developers currently in 'limbo', as the company negotiates with union representatives. An internal survey reportedly describes morale as being 'in the gutter', with website implying that dissenting voices are specifically being targeted by HR. Reportedly, the majority of cuts are in middle management, UX (user experience), and narrative copywriting. At the same time, Farm Heroes Saga, which is made in the UK, has lost half its staff, including level designers and user research – which adds up to around 50 people on its own. Many other staff have also been told their jobs are at risk, most of which have spent the last few years training AI tools to do their jobs. This has apparently worked well enough that they are now being replaced by those same tools. 'Now those AI tools are basically replacing the teams. Similarly, the copywriting team is completely removing people since we now have AI tools that those individuals have been creating.' 'The fact AI tools are replacing people is absolutely disgusting but it's all about efficiency and profits even though the company is doing great overall,' they added. Microsoft took control of King in 2023, when they acquired Activision Blizzard, and previous to that claimed that King and mobile gaming was the primary reason for the purchase, more so than Call Of Duty. There's since been no sign that's true, much as Microsoft's claims of wanting to support the Nintendo Switch have so far led to only two games (Pentiment and Grounded) in 2024 and nothing being announced for the Switch 2. Trump joins tech and energy executives amid AI push
PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania, July 15 (Reuters) - President Donald Trump will join executives from some of the largest U.S. tech and energy companies for a summit in Pittsburgh on Tuesday as the administration prepares fresh measures to power the U.S. expansion of artificial intelligence. Top economic rivals U.S. and China are locked in a technological arms race over who can dominate AI as the technology takes on increasing importance everywhere from corporate boardrooms to the battlefield. The Energy and Innovation Summit at Carnegie Mellon University is expected to bring tech executives and officials from top energy and tech firms including Meta (META.O), opens new tab, Microsoft (MSFT.O), opens new tab, Alphabet (GOOGL.O), opens new tab and Exxon Mobil to discuss how to position the U.S. as a leader in AI. Trump will use the summit - put together by U.S. Senator Dave McCormick, a Republican ally from Pennsylvania - to announce some $70 billion in artificial intelligence and energy investments in the state. Big Tech is scrambling to secure vast amounts of electricity supplies to power the energy-guzzling data centers needed for its rapid expansion of artificial intelligence. That report, which includes input from the National Security Council, is due by July 23. The White House is considering making July 23 "AI Action Day" to draw attention to the report and demonstrate its commitment to expanding the industry, Reuters has reported. U.S. power demand is hitting record highs this year after nearly two decades of stagnation as AI and cloud computing data centers balloon in numbers and size across the country. The demand is also leading to unprecedented deals between the power industry and technology companies, including the attempted restart of the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant in Pennsylvania between Constellation Energy and Microsoft.
