Hearts to make approach for Kilmarnock's McInnes
Since Neil Critchley's dismissal last month after six months as Tynecastle boss, McInnes has been the strong favourite to take over.
His Kilmarnock team beat Dundee 3-2 on Saturday to secure Scottish Premiership safety with a third straight victory in what has been an otherwise difficult season.
In the aftermath of the win McInnes would not be drawn on the reports linking him with a move to Tynecastle, saying there had been "no contact from club to club".
However, Hearts have identified the 53-year-old as the man they want to take charge after sacking two head coaches this season in Critchley and Steven Naismith.

McInnes is an experienced manager in Scotland having started by taking St Johnstone to the top flight in 2009.
After a brief stint at Bristol City he then had seven years at Aberdeen where they never finished lower than fourth and won the League Cup in 2014.
McInnes departed Pittodrie in 2021 and took charge of Kilmarnock the following January, leading them to promotion back to the top flight and keeping them up on their return.
His spell at Rugby Park peaked last season when he guided the Ayrshire side to fourth place and European football.
Hearts themselves have had a turbulent season which started with their worst-ever beginning to a campaign and cost Naismith his job.
Critchley steered the club away from the bottom of the table but failed to get them into the top six and was dismissed, while there are changes off the pitch.
Brighton owner Tony Bloom is set to invest nearly £10m in the club, which has use of his Jamestown Analytics data company for recruitment.

At the time of writing, we don't know how long he will be out for, but the indication is that it won't be a short-term injury. If he did depart, you'd think that a Championship move would appeal over the Scottish Premiership. If Coventry were to lose Milan van Ewijk, who has been heavily linked with a move to Wolfsburg, it would certainly make sense - just not if he's going to be sidelined for a long time.

'Dinosaur football' or 'professional performance'?
We asked for your views on Hearts' 2-0 win against Aberdeen. Here's what some of you said: Keith: Thoroughly professional performance, looked strong in every department and have a physicality to dig in when required, Derek McInnes has been flawless since his arrival. SJ: Couldn't believe the team selection. Three at the back, two full-backs and no wingers when we're at home? Aimless 40-yard cross-field passes! If their striker hadn't missed that sitter, we'd have been embarrassed. When we changed shape on 75 minutes we looked far better. Harry Milne, Finlay Pollock, Craig Halkett and Oisin McEntee were excellent but Christian Borchgrevink and Blair Spittal are not the answer. Grateful for the three points but I don't think we scared any of the other teams. Jim: Good start in the first half, really good second half. Aberdeen had a good couple of chances from cross balls which was quite alarming considering the height we had at the back but over the piece it was good to see a bit of fight for the second ball. The new signings look good too. Richard: A hard-fought three points and not really until the second went in did we manage the game. Aberdeen huffed and puffed but were really poor in front of goal. Cameron Devlin and McEntee maintained real composure and tenacity in the last 15 to get us over the line comfortably. Every player is coming onto the pitch with drive and ambition to do well. Great first match under the lights. Ray: Good result and new signings look lively and better than what we have. However with the aimless long balls up the park we looked like Scotland at the Euros by passing over the midfield. They have a growing confidence, and increasing knowledge of what their teammates are capable of. It would be fair to say that the last few years have been nothing short of a roller coaster for everyone connected with Falkirk. If Sunday's 2-2 draw with Dundee United is going to be the template for life back in the top-flight, then the Bairns faithful should strap themselves in for another thrilling ride. "People want to come and be entertained. That was entertainment. That was definitely entertainment," said Falkirk boss John McGlynn following the Bairns' barnstorming draw with United - and you best believe there will be plenty more fireworks to come at the Falkirk Stadium. Falkirk approached their first top-flight fixture since 2010 without any fear - and they will continue to do so against the rest of the division in the weeks and months ahead. There was so much to admire about the team's attacking style and willingness to go after the Terrors, but there was also a defensive naivety which McGlynn must work on given the challenges that lie in wait. The Bairns' bold approach is likely to produce more bad days among the good at the top tier of Scottish football, but it is going to be fun as long as it lasts.
