What's new about the 2025 Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon course
To learn about this year's course, 6 News anchors Bo Williams and Lori Tucker joined marathon race director Jason Altman to see what changes have been made.

'We've got some significant changes to the second-half of the course and as a result, we had to add some mileage and like what better place, we're in Fourth and Gill already, so why not come a couple blocks up and come right through the WATE parking lot,' said Altman.
One of the big reasons for the changes for the full marathon runners is because the Gay Street bridge is closed.
'We love going into all our neighborhoods and Island Home is important. So, we wanted to continue to utilize Island Home as part of our racecourse. Previously, we took the James White Parkway to get into the neighborhood and we came back on Gay Street Bridge.
With it being closed to both the pedestrians and vehicles, we had to get creative. So, we're doing similar to what the bike race did. We are going to go in Island Home via the James White Parkway and come back on the opposite side of James White Parkway to get us back across the river and then we're able to get off at Riverside Drive,' explained Altman.
So, while runners can't be on top of the bridge there, they can run underneath it.

'We've exited island home, we've come back across the river on the northside, runners have come down from James White Parkway all the way this way on the Neyland Greenway, taking the sidewalk past Calhoun's on the river and heading ever so close towards the finish,' said Altman.
Of course, the sign that the runners are almost done is when they see the Sunsphere, but how they get into the World's Fair Park will be a little different than in years past.
'Previous years everyone has finished coming Clinch Avenue Bridge under the viaduct, finishing at World's Fair Park Drive. New this year, the marathoners and the relay participants will come along Second Creek Greenway past the base of the Sunsphere until they ultimately finish down at the finish line at World's Fair Park,' said Altman.
List: Road closures for the 2025 Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon
At the finish line, runners will receive their participant medal and celebrate finishing the race.

Royals RHP Seth Lugo signs multi-year contract extension
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – One of the best starting pitchers in the American League is staying put in Kansas City for the foreseeable future. The Royals signed RHP Seth Lugo to a multi-year contract extension on Sunday, according to reports. His deal is worth a guaranteed $46 million over two years, with a vesting option in 2028. The deal also includes a $3 million signing bonus. This move vanquishes any trade rumors involving Lugo ahead of the trade deadline on Thursday. Lugo was on the last year of a three-year, $45 million deal he signed in December of 2023. He has arguably been the Royals' best pitcher since joining the team. Royals LHP Kris Bubic placed on 15-day IL with rotator cuff strain He had a career year in 2024, finishing second in the AL Cy Young Award voting and earning an All-Star selection, while helping lead the Royals to their first playoff appearance since 2015. Lugo is having another solid year in 2025. He is 7-5 with an ERA of 2.95 and 99 strikeouts to 33 walks. His name had been a mainstay in trade rumors over the past few weeks, but recent series wins against the Cubs and Guardians likely eliminated the Royals from being sellers before the deadline. Lugo's next scheduled start is on Tuesday, when the Royals take on the Braves at home. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
