Haidan wins overall Al Shaqab Champions title

Mohammed Saeed Haidan clinched the overall Al Shaqab Champions (130–140cm) title as the Al Shaqab National Show Jumping League concluded in thrilling fashion on Saturday.
Riding Viahipi d'Auzay, Haidan secured second place in the third and final round, but it boosted his total to 105 points to claim top honours at Al Shaqab's Longines Indoor Arena.
Thorsten Wittenberg finished second overall after placing third in the final round aboard Casallino 12. Khaled Aleid, who won the concluding round on Q Sahel, secured third place overall with a total of 94 points.
In the Youth Champions (125–135cm) category, Abdulaziz Fahad Aleid claimed the overall title with 101 points. Khalid Al Hadi followed with 95 points, while Saad Ahmed Al Saad finished third with 91 points.
Meanwhile, Haya Khalid Al Hitmi was crowned Junior Champion (115–125cm), earning 97 points to edge out Ibrahim Khalid Al Kuwari by just two points. Fahad Jassim Al Thani secured third place with 93 points.
Al Kuwari, riding Just In Time, won the final round yesterday. Haya, aboard Murdoc, finished second, while Al Thani claimed third place on Hazel de Luxe.
In the Amateur Class (90–100cm), Mohammed Salem Al Naemi topped the standings with 77 points to be named overall champion. Joud Bassam El Aker (74 points) and Ali Abdulla Al Muhannadi (70 points) rounded out the podium.
Mohammed Faisal Al Marri emerged as the Future Champions (105–115cm) winner, amassing 98 points. Ahmed Ali Jaber took second place with 87 points, while Hadi Mansour Al Shahwani placed third with 86 points.
In the team competition, Al Adeed secured top spot in the league standings, followed by Farhoud and Faraa.
Earlier, in the first event of the final day, Nasser Hamad Al Thani riding Coco Chanel SB delivered a flawless performance to win the Introductory Class 2 (60cm) with a time of 60.92 seconds. Salha Khalid Obaidli aboard Tinkerbell closely followed, finishing second in 61.12 seconds, while Meshael Mohammed Al Thani on Lancome Paris secured third place.
Alanoud Rashid Al Shahwani (Moreade Fee B), Asmaa Ahmad Al Sulaiti (Tinkerbell), and Fahad Mohammed Al Sulaiti (Chapuisat) completed the top six.

The activation featured thoughtfully curated elements, including live illustrated portraits celebrating race day elegance, a bespoke leather stamping station for personalised keepsakes, and a heritage corner where visitors drew traditional Arabic proverbs from a pearl-diving basket, offering an authentic connection to Qatari storytelling. The Qatar Goodwood Festival presented by Visit Qatar with the Al Shaqab Goodwood Cup Stakes (Group 1) marks the first of several Visit Qatar-sponsored races during the event. A world-class field of 8 elite runners from leading international stables took part in the two-mile race, delivering an exhilarating showdown on the Goodwood Racecourse. Scandinavia claimed victory in a hard-fought finish. The trophy was presented by Saad Bin Ali Al Kharji, chairman of Qatar Tourism and chair of the Board of Directors of Visit Qatar. Beyond the track, Visit Qatar is bringing the spirit of Qatar to West Sussex through an interactive experience designed to showcase Qatar's hospitality, unique culture, and tourism offerings to international festival goers. Guests visiting the Visit Qatar activation are welcomed with traditional refreshments including Arabic coffee and dates. Immersive visual elements throughout the space highlight Qatar's diverse tourism offerings, using striking imagery and compelling storytelling to inspire travel and bring the destination to life. The Qatar Goodwood Festival presented by Visit Qatar continues throughout the week with more headline races, including the Qatar International Stakes, the highly anticipated Visit Qatar Sussex Stakes, the Qatar Nassau Stakes, and the King George Qatar Stakes, and the Qatar Lillie Langtry Stakes on the final day.

The tournament, hosted at the Lusail Multipurpose Arena from July 28 to August 1, features four Asian teams: Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Japan, and Iraq. Japan started strongly, securing the first quarter 29-19. Qatar responded in the second quarter, matching Japan's intensity with a 24-24 tie. The third quarter saw Japan regain the lead, winning 29-24, but Qatar fought back in the fourth, outscoring Japan 25-21. Despite the late surge, Qatar could not overturn the deficit. Qatar's Alen Hadzibegovic led the game with 24 points, while Japan's Yudai Nishida was his team's top scorer with 21 points. The result leaves Qatar with three points in the tournament standings, while Japan earns their first two points, having missed the opening round. Qatar previously defeated Saudi Arabia 82-78 in the tournament's opening match. The tournament concludes on Friday, August 1, with Saudi Arabia facing Japan at 5pm followed by Qatar's final match against Iraq at 7pm. Under the guidance of Turkish coach Hakan Demir, Qatar is using the tournament as a critical phase in their preparations for the 31st FIBA Asia Cup, scheduled for August 5-17, 2025, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, with 16 teams competing. Qatar is drawn in Group A alongside Australia, South Korea, and Lebanon. Group B includes Guam, Japan, Syria, and Iran; Group C comprises China, Jordan, India, and Saudi Arabia; and Group D features Chinese Taipei, New Zealand, Iraq, and the Philippines. The Asia Cup follows a group-stage format, with the top team from each group advancing directly to the quarterfinals. Teams finishing second and third in each group will compete in crossover knockout matches to determine the remaining quarter-finalists.

Khalil Al Jabir elected as Bureau Member of World Aquatics

Tribune News Network Doha Khalil Ibrahim Al Jabir, Executive Director of the Qatar Olympic Academy and former President of Qatar Swimming Association (QSA), has been elected as a Bureau Member of World Aquatics for the 2025–2029 term. The announcement came during the World Aquatics General Congress held on the sidelines of the 2025 World Aquatics Championships in Singapore. Al Jabir, a leading figure in Qatari and Asian aquatic sports, previously served as QSA president from 2008 to 2024. His longstanding service to the sport includes being first elected to World Aquatics in 2017, followed by a key role in 2021 when he was selected at the Doha General Assembly as one of the members representing host nations of the World Championships. His re-election this year is another milestone in a distinguished career dedicated to advancing aquatic sports on a global scale. In addition to his World Aquatics responsibilities, Al Jabir also holds the position of Vice President of the Asian Aquatics Federation for the 2024–2029 term, a role he secured during the 2024 general assembly in Bangkok, Thailand. Meanwhile, QSA President Mubarak bin Ali Al Nuaimi participated in the 2025 World Aquatics General Congress in Singapore. His attendance reflects the association's continued efforts to reinforce Qatar's presence in the international sporting arena. On behalf of the Association, Al Nuaimi congratulated Al Jabir on his election and expressed confidence in his ability to represent Qatar with distinction and help shape the future of aquatic sports worldwide. The Congress also saw the election of the World Aquatics Board of Directors for the upcoming term, selecting several prominent figures tasked with leading the global governing body into its next chapter.
