Norrie & Kartal carry GB hopes at Wimbledon on Sunday
Cameron Norrie and Sonay Kartal are the remaining British hopes of Wimbledon singles success in 2025 and both players are in fourth-round action at SW19 on Sunday.Norrie, 29, takes on Chilean qualifier Nicolas Jarry in the second match on Court One, with defending champion Carlos Alcaraz a potential opponent in the last eight.Kartal, 23, is enjoying her best ever run at a Grand Slam and will take on Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the first match on Centre Court (13:30 BST).Elsewhere in the women's draw, world number one Aryna Sabalenka - who defeated Britain's Emma Raducanu in an enthralling third-round match on Friday - will aim to move a step closer to her first Wimbledon singles title.
World number 61 Norrie, making his eighth appearance at Wimbledon, is through to round four for only the second time.He was a semi-finalist in 2022, losing to eventual champion Novak Djokovic.Norrie's opponent Jarry has been as high as 16th in the world but is currently outside the top 100 having been affected by health concerns for several months.He won three qualifying matches to reach the main draw, before defeating eighth seed Holger Rune and teenage sensation Joao Fonseca on his way through to the last 16.
Kartal, who is set to climb to a career-high ranking as a result of her singles run at the All England Club, has her sights on a first Grand Slam quarter-final.The experienced Pavlyuchenkova, 34, was French Open runner-up in 2021 but has only once made it this far at Wimbledon since her 2007 debut.Kartal, the world number 51, is ranked one place below her Russian opponent.British interest also continues in the doubles and junior events.Joe Salisbury and Brazilian partner Luisa Stefani play Argentine Andres Molteni and American Asia Muhammad in the mixed doubles second round.Also in that competition, the all-British pair of David Stevenson and Maia Lumsden face eighth seeds Mate Pavic and Timea Babos of Croatia and Hungary respectively, while former champions Neal Skupski and American Desirae Krawczyk are up against American-Russian pair Nathaniel Lammons and Alexandra Panova.Seventeen-year-old Mimi Xu, who lost to Raducanu in the women's first round on Monday, begins her girls' singles campaign against American Thea Frodin first on court 12.
Second seed Alcaraz has had far from a smooth ride through to the last 16, being taken to five sets by Fabio Fognini in round one and four sets by Jan-Lennard Struff in his most recent outing.The Spaniard, chasing a third successive Wimbledon title, plays Russian 14th seed and former quarter-finalist Andrey Rublev in the third match on Centre Court.First up on Court One (13:00 BST) is fifth seed Taylor Fritz, who has been on court for almost 10 hours and has played a total of 14 sets across his first three matches. The American takes on world number 44 Jordan Thompson of Australia, who has matched his career-best run at a Grand Slam.The winner of that one will play either Karen Khachanov or Kamil Majchrzak in the last eight - they open proceedings on court two at 11:00 BST.
Sabalenka is an imposing presence in the top half of the women's draw, even more so after a host of leading seeds went out early in the tournament.The 27-year-old Belarusian will take on 24th seed Elise Mertens of Belgium, once Kartal's match has been completed on Centre Court.Awaiting the victor in the quarter-finals will be either Solana Sierra of Argentina, who lost in qualifying but made it into the main draw as a lucky loser, or unseeded 37-year-old German Laura Siegemund.Two seeds meet in the only other women's singles match scheduled for Sunday as American world number 12 Amanda Anisimova takes on Czech player Linda Noskova, ranked 15 places lower, last on Court One.

That performance marked him out as well above average and this step up to 7f is sure to suit given his stout Sea The Stars pedigree. Man United 'end £10m talks with streaming giant' over behind-the-scenes documentary - with Ruben Amorim role key as 'reasons for axing plans are revealed'
Manchester United have 'pulled the plug on a fly-on-the-wall documentary that would have banked them more than £10million'. United had been in talks with Amazon over being the latest side in their All or Nothing series and they were locked in negotiations for months. But according to The Athletic, the club decided on balance that the intrusion could negatively impact performances on the pitch. They report that Ruben Amorim was not comfortable with the arrangement - despite the temptation to cash in with what would have been the highest amount paid for an All or Nothing series. Time pressure of the upcoming campaign and commercial reasons were reportedly other key factors, but ultimately without Amorim's support there was no progress to be made. Opening up United to the cameras during what is a turbulent time at Old Trafford could have made for compelling viewing. Amorim has made his feelings known on Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford, with the Portuguese manager not one to pull punches. United endured an awful season after Amorim took over from sacked Erik ten Hag, leading them to 15th in the Premier League. Missing out on the Champions League by losing the Europa League final against Tottenham was also a massive blow, especially financially. There was support for the documentary from the commercial department but only if the football department agreed. Chief executive Omar Berrada was also said to be on board with the Amazon proposal. The fact that United were happy to go with Amorim's view of a distracting, negative impact shows they are putting their full weight behind him. The club have already signed Matheus Cunha and are closing in on Bryan Mbeumo - two additions who should in theory make United markedly stronger. There remains an issue with outgoings, with Rashford and Garnacho among those the club desperately want to move on. Netflix, Amazon and Disney all reached out to United with interest in making a documentary following a revival under Sir Jim Ratcliffe. But given the poor start to INEOS' stewardship, it is perhaps no surprise there is an unwillingness to push for the access-all-areas show. So far, there have been more than 450 redundancies at the club and Ratcliffe claimed they were in danger of going out of business back in March without his deeply unpopular cost-cutting methods.

Incoming Chelsea wonderkid Estevao Willian turned down an offer to continue his Club World Cup journey with his new club after his current side were dumped out of the competition by his future one. The 18-year-old, who netted for Palmeiras in their 2-1 last-eight defeat, will complete his move to the Blues later this month. The meeting of the two sides put the teenager in a unique win-win situation, a reality quickly manifested in the offer from Cole Palmer to link up with the Blues squad as they made their way to New York for their semi-final clash against Fluminense. But after enlisting the help of fellow new recruit Dario Essugo, whose linguistic skills deciphered the Mancunian accent Palmer's English invitation was delivered in, Estevao declined and insisted that he needed to say a proper goodbye to his soon-to-be former colleagues. 'I had to ask Essugo what Cole had said to me,' said Estevao. 'He laughed a bit before translating, telling me "Cole said he's excited for you and want you to come with us after the game".' 'I wanted to stay some more time with my team pals,' he added. 'I came here with them. And I should go back to Brazil with them. My heart is broken because only we know how hard we worked. 'But I leave with pride. And I am happy to have a giant club as Chelsea opening its doors to me. 'I just wanted to show my new fans in England who I am. That it is all. I hope to learn. I am sure I come to London to evolve, and to make history there too.' After Saturday's match, Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca spoke glowingly of the winger, teasing an 'important' role for him. 'You can see he is a huge talent,' Maresca said post-match. 'You can see he is a fantastic player. The only thing now is when you come from South America or another part of the world to Europe you need to adapt. 'We are going to help him to adapt and first of all to enjoy football. We don't have any doubt, as he is so good, that he is going to be an important player for Chelsea.' Palmer made a point of embracing Estevao and swapping shirts with him after the final whistle, despite the language barrier. 'I told Estevao we are excited for you to join but he didn't understand a single word I said,' Palmer said. Chelsea struck a deal to sign the prodigy last year but he stayed in Brazil for one more season, and his talents were on show as he was named the player of the match against his future employers. He will shortly join up with their first-team squad. Estevao was, however, visibly emotional after bringing the curtain down on his time at the club which first thrust him into the spotlight.
