BBC Wimbledon star Annabel Croft's big life change, dating update and lasting regret

BBC Wimbledon star Annabel Croft's big life change, dating update and lasting regret The former player turned presenter and pundit is set to be a regular fixture on our screens in the coming weeks Annabel Croft (Image: Getty Images ) BBC presenter Annabel Croft will once again be on our screens over the next fortnight as Wimbledon fever prepares to take over the nation. The much-loved tennis pundit is part of the BBC's coverage for the tournament this year, part of a star-studded lineup which kicks off in earnest on Monday. A former player herself, Croft has carved out a stellar career for herself behind he microphone and in front of the camera, while she shot into the wider public conscience during her appearance on Strictly Come Dancing back in 2023. ‌ Her Strictly journey came just months after a tragic life event which rocked her to her core. Her husband of 30 years, Mel, died aged 60 just 16 weeks after his diagnosis. ‌ Two years after Mel's tragic passing, she is ready to undertake a major change and move house. She had three children with Mel, a former America's Cup yachtsman, Amber, now 31, Charlie, 29, and Lily, 27, but believes now is the time to downsize. 'The house has been my life for 25 years. Everything about it is Mel, because he built it. We've had amazing memories here that are impossible to forget, but I'm ready to go,' she told The Sun. 'What gives me pleasure is going for a morning walk in the park, running with my friends, having a coffee, a meal out and being with my family. Article continues below "I've realised I don't need much any more. I don't want overheads, maintenance, a garden to look after and pay for – anything that is excess to what I need.' She previously told Hello! magazine that she "doesn't even consider" going back into dating. "It's not something I'm thinking about at all. I'm not in that headspace – it's way too soon," she told the publication. That's why she appeared to be exasperated when rumours swirled of a new romance after being spotted with a man at lunch back in April. ‌ 'He's my bank manager and a great friend who was also close to Mel,' she told The Sun clearing up any sort of rumour. 'We were looking at photographs of Mel together. Mel adored him and he's been really helpful to me.' Croft, who will turn 59 during the tournament, now says she is looking forward to becoming a grandmother, with daughter Amber due to give birth in September. It will mean a new chapter in her life, one which has seen many colourful chapters already closed. One in particular, which is pertinent, too, with Wimbledon fortnight upon us, is her tennis playing career. ‌ The former British No.1 was a junior Wimbled and Australian Open champion, however she walked away from the sport at the tender age of 21. Explaining her decision, she said she simply "fell out of love" with the sport. She added: "I didn't want to live that circus lifestyle any more. I shudder now, thinking: 'How did I do that with such conviction but without any idea of what I was going to do?' "I didn't have an education or a plan. I was young and naive, and hadn't actually thought beyond that moment.' ‌ And there is regret over that decision. When asked if she regretted not keeping with the sport in an attempt to turn her Wimbledon title into a senior crown, she replied: 'Of course, I would have loved to have won the main trophy, but I made a decision that I didn't want to chase that dream any more. "I regret that I didn't understand what I was doing at the time. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, isn't it?' Her professional career away from the sport, however, has been a success story. Article continues below After five years performing in pantomime – an experience that helped boost her confidence – Croft made a successful move into television, landing a role on Channel 4's adventure show Network Seven before stepping into Anneka Rice's shoes as the new host of Treasure Hunt in 1989. She eventually returned to her tennis roots, carving out a new career as a presenter and pundit. She began with Eurosport before going on to work with Sky Sports and the BBC, becoming a familiar face in tennis coverage.

And like everyone else, I'm trying to keep to a budget during the cost of living crisis without missing out on the latest styles. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 9 I tried kids' clothing to see just how much money it can save you Credit: Leane Hall In recent months, fashionistas on social media have sworn by buying from the kids' clothing section to save cash on their summer wardrobe. Paige Joanna, a size 12, revealed she regularly shops Next kids' clothing, while Regan Ellis, a size 10 to 12, swears by Primark's clothing line for children. In the UK, clothing for children is VAT so in theory, it should be cheaper than adult sizes, which have the tax added. And savvy shoppers have spotted that sizes 15-16 for girls often fit women of a size 12, with Next sizing guides even promoting it on their sizing chart. At 5ft 6" and a size 10 with DD's and a need to update my wardrobe whenever the season changes, I decided to give it a go myself to see if it was cheaper, on trend and if they really fit. Next The British store is widely loved by parents for its quality baby clothes. So I decided to see if the kids' clothes were any good as well. I picked up this on-trend sardine T-shirt in a kid's size 16 for £15 and was pleasantly surprised. I assumed it would be a tight fit, but it was actually oversized and was a whole £5 cheaper than the women's version. I then tried on a dress as I assumed it would be harder for a woman with DD's to fit into and was correct. I tried the fitted Pink Mesh Flower Sequin Party Dress that was £31, but it was super ill-fitting and tight around the arms. It also wasn't much cheaper than other event dresses in the women's section, like this pretty pink bandeu number that's £36. 9 Some pieces fit perfectly, but dresses were 50/50 Credit: Leane Hall I'm a size 14 and did the best Tesco summer haul - run before new co-ord sells out Primark 9 These barrel jeans were the perfect fit Credit: Leane Hall 9 This dress wouldn't even go past my shoulders Credit: Leane Hall My next stop was Primark and I was hoping to see some much more affordable prices. The clothes sizing in Primark stops slightly younger at 14-15 years old but it didn't put me off grabbing a selection to try. The first was an adorable Lemon Print Bubble Hem Dress for £12, which honed in on the Mediterranean trend, but I never found out how it looked on as I couldn't get it over my shoulders. A similar puffball dress from the ladies' collection was £25. Next was a pair of trendy barrel leg jeans in grey for £14 compared to the women's £16 version. The trousers were a perfect fit, as well as saving you a couple of quid, so I'd call it a win. Next was a striped shirred cami top for just £4, it fit perfectly and actually was a little big in some places. The price was an absolute steal compared to the Gingham Shirred Top in the women's section, which was £13. Last but not least was a knitted button-up waistcoat from the girls' range that was £8. It wasn't quite the right fit around the chest, but I could only get it in a size 11-12 years so a couple of sizes up would have been perfect, and yet again was a bargain compared to the Rita Ora Knitted Waistcoat that was £13. 9 The shirred cami was a bargain and perfect for summer Credit: Leane Hall 9 The knitted waistcoat was also a trendy option Credit: Leane Hall New Look 9 This dress is perfect for hot weather, but wasn't much of a bargain Credit: Leane Hall 9 The jeans were half the price of the women's and on trend Credit: Leane Hall The last place on my shopping spree was New Look where I got a range of items. First, I tried the Yellow Ditsy Print Tiered Mini Dress in a size 15 for £22.99. After the last two dresses failed to fit, I figured this would be the same but because of its stretch cotton material it fit like a glove. It was slightly cheaper than the women's yellow mini dress on offer which is £25. I also picked up these on-trend cow print barrel leg jeans that are on sale for £16.79, These were a tight fit but I loved the unique print. Plus, they were half the price of the leopard print jeans in the women's section for £32. I tried a blue striped bandeau top for £12.99 which did fit but the women's version was actually cheaper at £7.99. Then there was the denim skort which again was a tight fit and cost £19.99 compared to the grown up tailored version that was £29. 9 The skort was a little tight and the bandeau was pricier Credit: Leane Hall Final Thoughts While some of the clothes fit perfectly, others, clearly, did not. You can save some cash shopping in the kids' section but not enough to make me start shopping there all the time. I'd also steer away from shopping online, as you want to try the pieces on before buying.

Emma Raducanu reveals the truth about Carlos Alcaraz relationship rumours

Emma Raducanu reveals the truth about Carlos Alcaraz relationship rumours Emma Raducanu and Carlos Alcaraz are both Evian-sponsored athletes and will team up for mixed doubles at the US Open later this summer Emma Raducanu and Carlos Alcaraz spent time together at Wimbledon for an Evian promotion (Image: Getty ) Emma Raducanu has firmly set the record straight regarding her relationship with Carlos Alcaraz, following the announcement that they will be partnering for mixed doubles at the US Open later this summer. Both the British star and the world No.2 are sponsored by Evian, and they spent Friday together at the All England Club promoting the brand. ‌ When asked about the rumours of a romance with Alcaraz circulating on social media, Raducanu gave a straightforward answer. ‌ "We're just good friends," the British No. 1 said with a smile, as her pre-tournament press conference came to a close. "What a way to wrap up," she added, reports the Express. After being seen wandering around the All England Club and filming together on one of the courts, Raducanu commented: "No, it was fun yesterday. Article continues below "We were both on court with Evian. Yeah, we were just getting some volley practice in ahead of New York. Yeah, I'm really happy obviously to be playing with him. Yeah, we had a good time yesterday." Emma Raducanu is taming her expectations at Wimbledon this year (Image: Getty ) However, Raducanu hasn't been spending all her time with Alcaraz. The 22-year-old is gearing up to face British teenage wildcard Mimi Xu in her first match on Monday, but she's keeping her expectations modest this year. ‌ She explained: "Truthfully, I don't expect much from myself this year. I know I've just been dealing with certain things. I just want to go out there and embrace the moment. I want to embrace the occasion. "I know there's not many opportunities to be playing at Wimbledon. You get it once a year and for a finite amount of time. I'm just looking forward to going out there and feeling the surroundings and the atmosphere." Raducanu has also been grappling with a back issue throughout the grass season. The back spasms resurfaced during her Queen's quarter-final defeat to Qinwen Zheng. Article continues below Earlier this week, she experienced a second-round defeat in Eastbourne and has scarcely had a break since. "I had one day off after Eastbourne, which is not much time. I think, like, right now I'm just happy to be at Wimbledon. I think that is a great kind of motivation to just keep going, and yeah, deal with everything else afterwards," she said. "It's just been managing [my back], as I've said the last few weeks. I wouldn't say it's 100 per cent, but a lot of the time with tennis players, nothing is ever 100 per cent. So just taking it as it comes."
