Morgan Charriere and Nate Landwehr meet Saturday on the main card of UFC on ESPN 70 at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn. Check out this quick breakdown of the matchup from MMA Junkie analyst Dan Tom.
Last event: 2-3
UFC main cards, 2025: 64-48-1
Morgan Charriere vs. Nate Landwehr UFC on ESPN 70 preview
Charriere (20-11-1 MMA, 2-2 UFC) has traded wins and losses since entering the UFC, and comes in on the heels of a loss to Nathaniel Wood in March. Charriere hasn't lost back-to-back fights since 2021, which sparked a four-fight streak that led to his UFC debut in 2023. The French fighter will aim to get back in the win column as a comfortable favorite. ... Landwehr (18-6 MMA, 5-4 UFC) has also bounced in and out of the winner's circle of his last four fights, and is also entering off a loss. In December, he was finished by Doo Ho Choi, which followed a first-round TKO of Jamall Emmers last March.
Morgan Charriere vs. Nate Landwehr UFC on ESPN 70 expert pick, prediction
In what is arguably the best fight on the entire card, Nate Landwehr will welcome Morgan Charriere to his home state.
As someone who has been interviewing and following Landwehr's career since his M-1 days, it's awesome to have seen Nate "The Train" become such a fan favorite for the wars he tends to bring out of his opponents. And though he was on the receiving end in his last fight with the talented Doo Ho Choi, it's important to note that Landwehr was dealing with a myriad of issues, ranging from illness to at least one broken hand.
That said, Charriere can be a handful for any fighter to deal with, healthy or not.
A quietly experienced regional player who sustained a plethora of deceptively close losses to noted fighters, Charriere's career has sometimes been a frustrating follow.
Although you can argue that a decent amount of Charriere's decision losses could have easily gone his way, the Frenchman's propensity to play his opponent's game and not punctuate rounds has undoubtedly been a source of his shortcomings.
Don't get me wrong, Charriere is the deserved favorite in this spot given their potential career trajectories and the fact that Landwehr has been blown out by lesser competition before.
However, if Charriere comes short of anything but a finish or an outright outclassing in the first frame, then "The Last Pirate" will likely find himself falling into Landwehr's favored style of fight.
Even though Charriere is more than capable of winning a war, I'll take a flier on Landwehr to survive some early scares and feed off the crowd en route to securing some key moments down the stretch.
The pick is Landwehr to come out on the right side of a greasy split decision on the scorecards.
Morgan Charriere vs. Nate Landwehr UFC on ESPN 70 odds

Wimbledon: Champagne cork interrupts Jannik Sinner's serve during men's final victory over Carlos Alcaraz

Only at Wimbledon. A Champagne cork from the stands landed on the court Sunday and interrupted the men's final between Carlos Alcaraz and Janik Sinner. Seriously. The disturbance took place in the second set as Sinner prepared to serve. An audible pop was heard on the broadcast that didn't sound dissimilar to a ball being hit. But it wasn't. Advertisement Sinner backed away from his serve, and Alcaraz raised both of his hands in the air, understandably perturbed by the fan interference in a Grand Slam final. The chair umpire pointed in the direction of the offending fan. "Please don't pop Champagne corks just as the players are about to serve," she said. "Thank you." It was a reasonable request. Low laughter from the stands transitioned into boos. An ESPN camera then pointed to a ball girl who had rushed to remove the foreign object from the court. The cork had landed near Sinner, who had picked it up and tossed it away. This isn't the first time a Champagne pop has interrupted action at the All-England Club. Women's finalist Amanda Anisimova called a fan out for a Champagne pop during a match in the early rounds. 'Why are you opening it right now?' she understandably inquired. Advertisement In 2021, a Champagne cork made its way on to the court during a match between Coco Gauff and Elena Vesnina. Fortunately for Sinner, the interference on his serve didn't impact his play. After dropping the first set, Sinner went on to a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 victory to claim his first Wimbledon title and his fourth Grand Slam championship.

UFC Nashville video: All eight finishes – including historic ones – from 'Music City'

The fighters at UFC on ESPN 70 had particular tunes in mind in "Music City," and most of them didn't include long outros. There were eight finishes in 12 fights at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, with four each on the prelims and main card. Included among those stoppages was a bonus-winning heel hook for Valter Walker that gave him an astonishing three heel hook wins in three UFC fights – which never has been done before. Advertisement Another of those eight finishes came in the main event – and extended Derrick Lewis' UFC record for knockouts. But it didn't come without controversy when some decried referee Jason Herzog's stoppage as too early 35 seconds into Lewis' heavyweight fight with Tallison Teixeira. Check out those two finishes and all the rest in the video above. UFC on ESPN 70 finishes Derrick Lewis def. Tallison Teixeira via TKO (punches) – Round 1, 0:35 Morgan Charriere def.
