'Hard work ahead as Foxes adapt to Cifuentes'

Yahoo4 days ago
Leicester City's trip to Austria has no doubt been a success for Marti Cifuentes.
However, the final day of the camp will have left the new Foxes boss with some questions he needs to find the answer to.
The defeat by FC Koln in Graz highlighted the fact that the Foxes are not yet fully symbiotic with the Catalan's style. They struggled to adapt to a different tactical idea from the German side - and it proved to be their downfall as they fell to a 3-1 defeat.
That was a sentiment echoed by both Cifuentes and goalscorer Kasey McAteer, who admitted more work on the training pitch is needed to fully implement the new philosophy.
However, the general mood around the camp has been lifted entirely following last season's relegation from the Premier League. Cifuentes has instilled a confidence and has been fierce in his methods of doing so.
He will not settle for anything less than best - from his players or himself.
The Foxes, now back on home soil, have plenty of work to do to get them ready for the beginning of the new Championship season.

Official – Inter Milan Target Not In Atalanta Squad For Friendly Match Vs RB Leipzig

Ademola Lookman is not in the Atalanta squad for today's friendly match against RB Leipzig amid persistent transfer links with Inter Milan. The Nigerian is out as he reportedly recovers from a calf injury. However, the transfer saga is also in the background. I nerazzurri convocati per #RBLipsiaAtalanta 📝 Our squad list for tomorrow's game 📝#GoAtalantaGo ⚫🔵 — Atalanta B.C. (@Atalanta_BC) August 1, 2025 Inter Milan have received Atalanta's response to their second offer for forward Ademola Lookman. And it was not the one that they were hoping for. La Dea have rejected the Nerazzurri's offer of €45 million including add-ons. That is up from the €40 million bid that Inter had made a couple of weeks ago. This has left Inter frustrated. And it has also drawn the ire of Lookman himself, who has scrubbed mention of Atalanta from his Instagram account. New La Dea coach Ivan Juric is leading the team out in a friendly match against RB Leipzig. However, Lookman is not part of the squad available to the Croatian tactician. However, this is not the result of Lookman being imminently up for sale. Rather, the 27-year-old is still recovering from a calf issue according to reports.

Charlton sign Reading midfielder Knibbs

Charlton Athletic have signed Reading midfielder Harvey Knibbs for an undisclosed fee. The 26-year-old has signed a four-year deal with the Addicks and is the club's ninth new signing since they won promotion to the Championship. Knibbs has scored 32 goals and provided 12 assists since moving to Reading from Cambridge United two years ago. The former Aston Villa youngster has played 209 games in his career in League One and League Two, scoring 42 goals in that time. "We wanted to add goals to us over the summer and Harvey is a key player we earmarked a long time ago," Charlton head coach Nathan Jones told the club website. "He has good pedigree, he's athletic, he scores goals and he's young enough that he will continue to improve." Knibbs still had at least a year left run on his deal at Reading, but Royals' boss Noel Hunt said he would not stand in his way of a move to a higher level. "He's scored important goals, created chances, and always put the team first," Hunt told the Reading website. "More than that, he's a great character around the dressing room and a fantastic professional. "We didn't want to see him leave, but after speaking to Harvey on a number of occasions, he made his ambitions clear. He's earned this move, and we wish him nothing but success at Charlton." Livi's attacking style can reap rewards, says McGowan

Ryan McGowan insists Livingston can replicate their attacking Championship form in the top flight. David Martindale's men start life back in the Premiership against Kilmarnock on Saturday and defender McGowan thinks opposition fans might be surprised by Livi's style this season. "The gaffer said it publicly before, sometimes when you're in the top flight it's just more survival and worrying about what other teams are going to do to you instead of possibly what you can do to hurt them and get points," said McGowan. "That's what we did as a club last season. It was kind of a reset and we controlled most of the ball. We played pretty good football for probably 90% of the season last year and that's something we want to take into this season. "If you've watched our cup games so far, it will probably be a little bit of a different Livingston to what was in the Premiership in years gone by. "It's up to us as players to really put to work what we're doing during the week into games and hopefully that gets us points and gets us up the league. "We play a different kind of style from the team that got relegated a couple of seasons ago, but it's one that we believe we will be successful with and fingers crossed that happens."
