Responding to Gandhi's statement, the EC said that as far as the
Karnataka elections
are concerned, it is "highly unfortunate" that rather than filling an election petition as per Section 80 of the Representation of the People Act 1951, or if filed, awaiting the verdict of the high court, he not only made "baseless allegations" but has also "chosen to threaten" the EC, a constitutional body.

Gandhi alleged that the EC is not functioning as the
Election Commission of India
, and is "not doing its job".
Asked about the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar and RJD leader
Tejashwi Yadav
's reported remarks that the option of boycotting the Bihar assembly polls was open, Gandhi told reporters in the Parliament House premises that his party has "concrete 100 per cent proof" of the EC allowing cheating in a seat in Karnataka.

"Not 90 per cent, when we decide to show it to you, it is a 100 per cent proof," the former Congress president said.
"We just looked at one constituency and we found this. I am absolutely convinced that constituency after constituency this is the drama that is taking place ... I want to send a message to the Election Commission -- if you think you are going to get away with this, if your officers think they are going to get away with this, you are mistaken. You are not going to get away with this because we are going to come for you," Gandhi said.

'Government must answer, be held accountable': Kiren Rijiju urges opposition not to stall Parliament; ‘disruptions hurt you more'

NEW DELHI: Parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju warned the opposition that frequent House disruptions undermine their "own role in democracy" by robbing them of the opportunity to question the government. His remarks came after the first week of the ongoing Monsoon Session, which was largely derailed by repeated protests from opposition MPs, who have been raising alarm over the Election Commission's ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. Noting that "tough questions" don't get raised when the proceedings are disrupted, Rijiju said, "Let me tell you, officers are relieved when Parliament doesn't function because they escape the grilling. The government can be held accountable in Parliament. When the House runs, ministers face tough questions. When it adjourns within minutes, those questions don't even get raised. Opposition loses more than the government when Parliament is disrupted. " "Those who stall the House think they are damaging the government, but in truth, they are weakening their own role in a democracy. In any democracy, the government must answer to the people through Parliament. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Pirates Climb Aboard Cargo Ship - Watch What The Captain Did Next Tips and Tricks Undo That is why allowing the House to run is essential for a functioning democracy." Rijiju added. He further contrasted the current state of frequent disruptions with the past, when leaders like Atal Bihari Vajpayee and LK Advani commanded such respect that MPs would "think twice" before speaking. "Back then, we would think twice before speaking because stalwarts were listening. Now disruptions begin on day one. Maybe social media has changed the game," PTI quoted him at the Sansad Ratna Awards. The opening week of Parliament's Monsoon Session was marked by high drama, political clashes with the surprise resignation of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar over "health reasons". Moreover, 16-hour special discussion on Operation Sindoor has been scheduled for July 28 in the Lok Sabha and July 29 in the Rajya Sabha. Rijiju has also confirmed that the impeachment proceedings against Justice Yashwant Varma would begin soon, indicating a potentially explosive Week 2.

KTR alleges Congress-BJP collusion, questions Rahul's silence on Telangana contracts

HYDERABAD: Alleging a 'shameless political nexus' between the Congress and BJP in the state, BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Friday questioned AICC leader Rahul Gandhi's silence on the alleged collusion between Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and saffron party MP CM Ramesh. Speaking at a student convention, marking the merger of Telangana Rashtra Vidyarthi Sainik Parishad into the BRS student wing here, he alleged that the Congress government in Telangana was awarding contracts worth thousands of crores to BJP leaders, pointing specifically to the Rs 1,600 crore Fourth City road contract given to CM Ramesh. 'While the Congress CM hands out massive contracts to BJP MPs, Rahul Gandhi chooses to remain silent. Is he unaware of this dangerous alliance?' Rama Rao asked. The BRS leader mocked Revanth for celebrating a letter from Sonia Gandhi, stating that the CM misinterpreted a polite message as high praise. 'He couldn't even read the letter properly. Instead of an Oscar, he deserves a Bhaskar Award,' KTR quipped and added, 'When he can't understand a simple letter, it raises legitimate suspicions about his degree'. He warned that the people were deceived by the Congress' false promises but would respond in the upcoming local body polls. 'The biggest scam of this century is the Congress manifesto. The people will not be fooled again,' he added. Referring to police humiliation of a Dalit youth, Sayilu, in Lingampet, he said: 'We honoured him at the same place where he was mistreated — a warning to those in power.' 'Lies may work temporarily, but truth will prevail. Telangana will rise again, and only under KCR's leadership can the state reclaim its pride, progress and dignity,' he declared. 'Cong govt failed all sections of society' Kamareddy: Accusing the Congress of failing all sections of society, BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Friday urged voters to defeat the ruling party in the upcoming local body elections. Speaking at the Dalit Atma Gourava Sabha in Lingampet, he extended support to Dalit leader Mudaam Silu, who he said was disrespected by Congress workers and the police during the BR Ambedkar birth anniversary celebrations. He told the gathering that the ballot was a powerful democratic tool and should be used to vote out the Congress. 'Win or lose, the people's opinion matters most,' he said, adding that the BRS would play its role in either power or opposition. He accused the Congress of coming to power by making false promises through its 'Abhaya Hastham', calling it the 'lie of the century'. He alleged that the Congress government had failed Dalits, women and farmers, and claimed that 100 students had died during its 18-month rule.
