Everything about Masai Mara, Africa's famous national park where Ranbir Kapoor proposed to Alia Bhatt
It's a paradise for wildlife lovers and also happens to be Alia Bhatt's fav destination.
Let's explore more about the place:
Location
Masai Mara is located in the southern part of Kenya along the Great Rift Valley area. It is some 224 km from the capital, Nairobi, and borders the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. Both of these parks are part of the world's oldest ecosystem. This national reserve is located in a semi-arid area and is surrounded by Acacia trees.
History of the land
It is also the only reserve that is directly managed by the Masai tribe, unlike the other reserves and national parks that are managed by the Kenya Wildlife Service. The place got its name in honour of the Maa people who occupy the land on which the reserve is present. This reserve in Kenya is one of the premium protected areas in the whole of Africa.
In 1961, it was established as a wildlife sanctuary; then, in 1974, it was declared a national reserve; and in 1976, more land was added to it.

The Maa people described the land as 'Mara' in their local language, which means 'spotted' when seen from afar.
A wildlife paradise
This reserve offers shelter to the Big Five: lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes, and black rhinos. You can easily spot the Big Five here, as this place has an ideal climate throughout most of the year. You can also spot the Big Nine African animals, along with 400 bird species ,most of them are migratory birds and one can also see 60 species of raptors here.
Home to the Big Five
This is one of the world's premier locations to spot Africa's king of the jungle, the lion. This species will definitely leave you awestruck with its strength, speed, and reputation. The African elephant can also be easily spotted here but has been threatened by poachers for its ivory tusks. In Mara, the population of elephants has grown over the years.
There's a great population of the majestic leopards here too, but they are not as easy to spot and are listed as vulnerable due to their loss of habitat and human encroachment.
You can go on the Masai Mara safari to spot these animals. The Cape buffalo and black or white rhino are also part of the Big Five. Whether it be white or black rhino, they are difficult to spot during the safari. The Cape buffalo is one of the most dangerous animals, and they are mostly found in herds of 100 or more.
The Great Migration
The biggest mammal trek in the world, where over 1.5 million wildebeest, 400,000 zebra, 12,000 eland, and 300,000 Grant's and Thomson's gazelles trek from Serengeti to Masai Mara.
This sight is like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity ,everyone should witness it once in their life. It is considered that they start their trek in July and August and start arriving in Masai Mara around the same time, and around October, they start to leave.
But nature does not live according to our timetable, so it's difficult to predict when you'll be able to witness it.
They are basically trekking in search of greener, mineral-rich pastures and water.
These herds are not safe from predatory animals, as while crossing the Mara River, crocodiles are waiting for them in the water, and in Masai Mara, these herds are threatened by the big cats as well.
Masai Mara offers the best African safari experience with a wide variety of animals, like the Big Five or the migratory species that come into Masai Mara during the Great Migration. You can also get involved in authentic cultural activities with the Maasai people.
This is the perfect spot for all the wildlife lovers, adventure enthusiasts, and a romantic getaway for lovers- you might not know, but you might be the next one getting proposed to on this beautiful land!

Citing deadline, tourism department pushes Roerich eco-tourism plan in Karnataka
Bengaluru: Citing the city's lack of nature-based recreational spaces and a looming central funding deadline, the tourism department has made a strong pitch to implement a Rs 99.2-crore eco-tourism and cultural hub at Roerich and Devika Rani estate, located off Kanakapura Road and bordering Bannerughatta forest range. At a high-level review meeting chaired by forest minister Eshwar Khandre Thursday, a day before the matter came up at the high court, tourism officials stressed that if the project isn't executed by March 2026, the state stands to lose Rs 65 crore in central funds earmarked for the initiative. The govt has granted its in-principle approval for the project, which, if implemented, will see a mix of amenities, including cultural centres, walking trails, eco-lodges, and public infrastructure. Officials argued Bengaluru, despite its size and population, lacks a large-scale green recreational zone anchored in ecological and cultural heritage. The Roerich estate, they said, could fill that gap. With the estate's legacy and landscape, this could become a model site for sustainable cultural tourism," a senior official said. However, forest department officials at the same meeting raised red flags over the ecological sensitivity of the area. The 468-acre estate lies within an elephant corridor that connects Bannerughatta and Savanadurga forest ranges. Karnataka's only elephant overpass, designed to help these animals migrate across human-dominated landscapes, is located nearby. Forest officials shared camera trap images showing regular movement of elephants, leopards and other scheduled mammals in the region. "The estate is part of a fragile corridor. Construction here will fragment wildlife movement, especially of large mammals," a forest official present at the meeting said. However, senior forest officials did not formally object to the tourism department's plan during the review meeting, according to multiple sources. In fact, earlier on Tuesday, the principal chief conservator of forests (PCCF) had recommended the project to the Union environment ministry. "There are some technical issues encountered in the Parivesh portal while uploading the working and management plans. Hence, the management plan of the tourism department is submitted with a request to forward it to the MoEF&CC regional office for further approval," the PCCF letter read. Tourism officials at the meeting are said to have acknowledged the presence of wildlife, but maintained that their design includes mitigation measures and does not violate forest laws.

AP set to launch caravan parks in Araku, Bheemili
1 2 Vijayawada: Taking inspiration from the caravan tourism policies of various states across the country, the AP Tourism department is all set to incorporate the 'Caravan Parks' feature into the much-anticipated Caravan Tourism Policy. This policy will soon be unveiled by the state government to further boost the tourism industry in Andhra Pradesh. The tourism department is considering developing Caravan Parks proposed under the new Caravan Tourism Policy at Araku, Bheemili, and other tourist spots across the state. Initially, these caravan parks will be developed at five locations in the ASR district in the North Andhra region. "The new caravan tourism policy will usher in a new chapter in AP's tourism landscape, designed to provide a unique experience for tourists to explore unexplored tourist spots through caravans across the state," said a senior tourism official involved in preparing the AP Caravan Tourism Policy. "Caravan Parks are areas that will offer parking space along with accommodation facilities for tourists to stay inside their leisure vehicles 24/7. Besides, recreational spaces such as walking tracks, sit-out areas, badminton courts, and basic amenities like drinking water and electricity will be developed at these parks," the official added. The official stated, "The Caravan Parks will mainly require sewerage discharge connection facilities to dispose of wastewater generated in the caravan, along with freshwater inlet connection pipes to refill water inside the caravan vehicle." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Dolly Parton, 79, Removes Her Makeup and Stuns Everyone The Noodle Box Undo Moreover, these caravan parks will be developed near picturesque locations within woods to offer breathtaking experiences to tourists. The tourism official told TOI that the draft caravan tourism policy, forwarded to the state government, is likely to receive approval in two to three weeks. The policy will be officially launched after the state cabinet clears it and a formal government order is issued. "The new AP Caravan Tourism Policy was prepared after studying the best practices from caravan tourism policies in nearly seven other states across the country," the tourism official informed. The tourism official added that the department will invite private caravan operators to develop caravan parks once the policy is unveiled. "If no caravan operator or private player shows interest in developing caravan parks, the tourism department will develop one or two parks at potential tourism sites, allowing private caravan operators to follow suit," the official concluded.
