Gaza: 798 people killed since June while receiving food aid, UN says
At least 798 people have been killed while trying to receive food aid in Gaza since the end of May, the United Nations Human Rights Office said on Friday.
Of the total number of people killed while receiving food assistance since May 27, 615 were in the vicinity of Gaza Humanitarian Foundations sites, a spokesperson for the Office of the High Commissioner of Human Rights (OHCHR) told reporters.

UAE resident nearly dies after headache, loses part of skull in life-saving surgery
For 32-year-old Ananta Sahu, what began as a simple headache quickly turned into the most terrifying experience of his life. Over the course of a week, the pain became unbearable. He developed a high fever, stiffness in his neck, and could barely hold himself steady. Although he sensed something was wrong, he never imagined the situation was life-threatening. 'I had a terrible headache that wouldn't go away,' Ananta said. 'My neck hurt badly, and I had a constant fever. I couldn't even sit or walk properly. The pain kept getting worse, and I was scared I wouldn't survive.' As his condition rapidly worsened, Ananta was rushed to Ras Al Khaimah's Hospital's emergency department. Doctors immediately recognised a dangerous pattern of fever, headache, and neck stiffness — classic signs of a possible brain infection, which are often mistaken for the flu or muscle strain. An MRI scan revealed swelling in the cerebellum, the part of the brain responsible for balance and coordination. A follow-up scan confirmed their fears: Ananta had a brain abscess — a rare but serious infection that causes a build-up of pus in the brain. It not treated quickly, it can lead to stroke, meningitis, or even death. 'Brain abscesses are extremely dangerous and can progress quickly,' said Dr Tinku Jose Kurisinkal, consultant neurosurgeon at RAK Hospital. 'This patient's condition was critical because the infection had advanced rapidly. The challenge is that their symptoms often mimic less severe conditions. Fortunately, our team acted fast and didn't overlook the signs.' The neurosurgery team performed an emergency suboccipital craniectomy, a procedure where a part of the skull is temporarily removed to reach and drain the abscess. The surgery was successful, and Ananta's condition began improving within hours. Brain abscesses are rare, but they can develop when infections from the ear, nose, sinuses, or even teeth spread through the bloodstream to the brain. Because the early symptoms resemble migraines, flu, or neck pain, many patients dismiss them or rely on over-the-counter painkillers — often with dangerous consequences. Dr Tinku warns that if someone has a fever along with persistent headache, vomiting, or neck pain, it should never be taken lightly. 'Quick medical checks, especially scans, can help catch these problems early and save lives.' Dr Raza Siddiqui, executive director, RAK Hospital said the case was a reminder of how powerful timely action can be. 'Many people delay seeking care or treat symptoms at home. But in cases like these, even a small delay could be fatal. This story shows how important it is to act early and trust expert care.' Now fully recovered, the RAK resident is back on his feet and deeply grateful for a second chance at lufe. His message to others is simple but powerful: 'Don't ignore pain. Listen to your body. And when in doubt, go to a doctor, before it's too late.'

UAE and Jordan lead 59th aid airdrop into Gaza
The UAE and Jordan carried out the 59th airdrop operation of humanitarian aid into Gaza on Friday, alongside seven aircraft from France, Germany, Italy, and Spain. The efforts were part of Operation Chivalrous Knight 3, which aims to deliver food and relief supplies to the most affected areas in the strip. The UAE has delivered more than $1.5 billion in critical humanitarian support to Gaza since the start of the war with Israel, authorities revealed on Friday. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs set out the scale of the country's commitment to the besieged enclave and pledged to continue to deliver key support amid 'continuing catastrophic conditions'. In a message on social media, the ministry said the Emirates provided more support to Gaza than any other country, according to the Financial Tracking Service of the United Nations Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs. The assistance includes providing medical support to 72,280 patients at hospitals in the UAE and the floating hospital in Al Arish, Egypt. More than 78,000 tonnes of aid have also been distributed to Gaza in partnership with international organisations. "The UAE continues to respond to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, working to ease the severe suffering amid continuing catastrophic conditions," the ministry said. "As part of its steadfast humanitarian commitment, the UAE has delivered medical and relief aid to the Strip through all available means, by land, sea, and air, in addition to providing over $1.5 billion in financial assistance. "The UAE has also received hundreds of wounded and injured individuals for medical treatment in its hospitals. "These efforts reflect the UAE's enduring commitment to supporting the brotherly Palestinian people, and the country remains firmly dedicated to continuing its support for all those in need." Show of solidarity A UAE aid ship carrying 7,166 tonnes of supplies for Gaza left Khalifa Port in Abu Dhabi on July 21. The Khalifa is heading to Al Arish Port in Egypt laden with 4,372 tonnes of food, 1,433 tonnes of shelter materials, 860 tonnes of medical supplies and 501 tonnes of health supplies, state news agency Wam reported. It is the largest aid vessel to be sent by the Emirates and comes as part of Operation Gallant Knight 3. It brings the total volume of aid sent by the UAE to Gaza to 77,266 tonnes. The ship is also carrying a fully equipped field hospital that can accommodate 400 patients and 16 ambulances, Hamoud Al Efari, the UAE Aid mission's co-ordinator, told The National. The UAE on Sunday resumed air drop aid missions to the Gaza Strip, in partnership with Jordan. The country's leadership has consistently stressed the need to secure a ceasefire in Gaza, improve the flow of aid into the territory and to pursue peace based on a two state solution. President Sheikh Mohamed on Wednesday held a phone call with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer regarding the worsening humanitarian crisis. The UAE leader praised Mr Starmer's statements regarding Britain's intention to recognise the Palestinian state. At least 60,249 Palestinians have been killed and 147,089 wounded since the war with Israel began in October 2023, according to the Hamas-run Gazan health ministry.
