RM1.33 billion spent on education since GRS took over

Kota Kinabalu: The State Government continues to prioritise educational development by allocating RM1.33 billion for various educational programmes and initiatives from 2021 to 2025. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said RM848.26 million has been spent on various educational assistance, while RM485 million is specifically allocated for human capital development. He said from 2021 to 2025, 14 new initiatives worth RM164.14 million have benefited approximately 210,918 students across the State. 'Academic excellence is not just an individual success but a crucial asset for the country. The State Government is committed to ensuring that no child in Sabah is left behind in accessing quality education,' he said at the Sabah Education Department's 13th Academic Excellence Recognition Ceremony (Mekar) held at Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC). His speech was delivered by Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif. Additionally, Hajiji said the State Government has also established the Sabah Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Council on May 19 this year in the effort to coordinate over 160 technical and vocational training institutions throughout the State, in line with future labour market needs. He said the State Government also provides cash incentive of RM1,000 to 146 outstanding STPM 2024 students, while one Sabahan student who excelled at the national level also received cash incentive of RM3,000 as a token of appreciation. Hajiji emphasised the importance of close cooperation between the State and Federal Government through the Education Ministry to enhance the quality and infrastructure of education in Sabah. 'The State Government is always open to discussions to strengthen human capital development. Education remains a key passport to the future of our children,' he stressed. TAMBUNAN: More than 800 people attended the Santai Bicara Maal Hijrah 1447H event at Dewan Pisompuruan Square, Tambunan, where Dato' Ustaz Kazim Elias was the main speaker. In his speech, Dato' Ustaz Kazim highlighted that Maal Hijrah should mark a real change in mindset and behavior. He described hijrah as moving away from harmful habits to better conduct, from ignorance toward understanding, and from carelessness to mindfulness. He also pointed out the risks of false information spreading through social media. According to him, such misinformation can damage reputations, create division, and disrupt peace. He urged everyone to think carefully before sharing or acting on information. Furthermore, Dato' Ustaz Kazim stressed the importance of treating followers of other religions with fairness and respect. He said Islam encourages just and respectful treatment of others and that good character is the true measure of faith. Former teachers upset at Anwar no-show

PENAMPANG: The Sabah Retired Educators Association (PMPS) voiced disappointment over the absence of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim from the Malaysia Madani Nationhood Seminar held at ITCC on Sunday. Its President, Dr Aslie Sahat, said retirees, including members of the association, had travelled from various districts in hopes of meeting the Prime Minister and hearing his direct address, particularly on the pension adjustment issue, which remains a pressing concern among public sector retirees. The Prime Minister was, instead, represented by Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali. 'Many of our members came from different districts, hoping at the very least to receive clarification from the Prime Minister on the status of the pension alignment. 'So when they were informed of his absence, the disappointment was deeply felt,' he said in a statement. Nevertheless, PMPS appreciated the efforts of all parties involved in organising the seminar and acknowledged the heavy responsibilities the Prime Minister bears.
