Disney World adds an adults-only after-dark experience

Disney World adds an adults-only after-dark experience

Miami Herald05-05-2025
It's barely an exaggeration to say that the food in Disney theme parks is a big part of the experience, almost as much as the rides.
And anyone who has visited one of the parks more than once most definitely has a favorite "only in Disney" food.

Maybe you can't visit without grabbing one of those turkey legs that's as big as your 10-year-old child's arm. Or maybe it's the pineapple Dole Whip soft-serve that you dream about. How about a churro?
In Walt Disney's (DIS) Disney World, there are 200 places to eat, including 90 with table service. (There are only 139 in Disneyland, but still plenty to choose from.)
You can even find upscale dining options like steakhouses in the parks, not quite Michelin Star material, perhaps, but almost.
Earlier this year, Disney World announced it was bringing back a dining option that is really popular with families: kids eat free.
If you stay at one of the 25 Disney Resort hotels in Orlando and you purchase a dining plan for people in your group who are older than 10, you will also get a free dining plan for kids ages 3 to 9.

Since a day in Disney can cost between $500 and $1,200 per person by the time you account for the ticket, the hotel and food, any offer that helps bring the prices down is a welcome one.
Guests normally can't combine special offers, but this year Disney is allowing it. "The kids' free dining plan offering can be combined with other select special offers, meaning you may still be eligible to take advantage of other deals we later roll out for 2026," according to the Disney Parks Blog.
The Disney Company is always looking for ways to get people to come back to The Happiest Place on Earth. They revamp old rides, introduce new ones, add new live shows, and have spectacular seasonal events.

Disney World and Disneyland don't normally have adults-only attractions, but there are experiences that are more appropriate for adults, including the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival and Disney After Hours.
Earlier this year the company announced GEO-82, a new 21+, reservations-required dining lounge in Epcot.

Now the park is upping the ante with the new GEO-82 Fireworks Experience. A ticket to the show includes fireworks, fountains, music and light, and a menu that will include:
Champagne that's specially selected by sommeliers at Walt Disney World Resort (or event-exclusive cocktails);A tasting tower of savory light bites, available before Luminous The Symphony of Us begins;A selection of sweets during Luminous The Symphony of Us.
Disney hasn't yet specified what the "light bites" for the Fireworks Experience will include, but the GEO-82 menu includes foods with global influences - like Truffled Ahi Tuna and Jumbo Lump Crab Gâteau. The cocktail menu highlights a Brown Butter Old Fashioned - made with brown butter-infused bourbon - and a Clarified New York Sour, plus a selection of mocktails, wines, and beers.
Reservations for the GEO-82 Fireworks Experience will open on May 6 for dates starting June 4. The experience costs $179 (plus tax and gratuity).

New Disney+ Dive-In Theater experiences give fans immersive movie experiences in pools

Disney+ and Swimply are teaming up to give fans a way to cool down and dive into an immersive movie experience unlike any other. The streaming service and the pioneering pool-sharing platform announced Monday that they are combining forces to create the first-ever Disney+ Dive-In Theater experiences. The experiences will transform three private swimming pools in Los Angeles into recreations of three classic films available to view on Disney+ and Hulu on Disney+ for bundle subscribers: "Honey I Shrunk the Kids," "Camp Rock" and "Alien." Guests will not only be able to watch a movie while they swim, but also take part in themed photo ops and interactive experiences, according to Disney+ and Swimply. At the "Honey I Shrunk the Kids" experience, for example, guests will enter through a "shrink ray" laser tunnel and emerge to giant-sized features, like a huge popcorn box and a cereal bowl swimming pool. "The Disney+ Dive-In Theater allows fans to connect with their favorite films in a way they've never been able to before," Samantha Rosenberg, executive vice president of marketing for Disney+, said in a statement Monday. "Following the success of our Disney+ Throwback Experience earlier this summer, we're seeing audiences crave real-world experiences that let them step into the stories they love." The limited-time Disney+ Dive-In Theater experiences will run from late July through August. Fans may book a Disney+ Dive-In Theater experience by going to Swimply's website or downloading the Swimply app. Disney+ Dive-In Theater dates and details "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids": Taking place from July 29 to Aug. 1, the experience will allow guests to "enter through a giant 'shrink ray' laser tunnel and emerge in a giant-sized world featuring a cereal bowl swimming pool, Cheerio pool floats, a towering popcorn box, and massive ants," according to Disney+ and Swimply. "Camp Rock": From Aug. 6-9, guests can enjoy a fire pit, bunk assignments, friendship bracelet-making stations and sing the night away on a stage enhanced by a "lakeside feel." "Alien": The third and final experience, running from Aug. 14-17, will transport guests into deep space. According to Disney+ and Swimply, "Guests will be recruited by Weyland-Yutani agents, pose in a flight suit, and watch the film surrounded by eerie green lighting and sci-fi sound design."
