Seven GNWFL girls selected for the 2025 WA Women's State Country Squad clash
The seven locals selected will take on the Perth Football League at Gosnells Oval on Friday in what is a great opportunity for the GNWFL girls to flex their muscles on the big stage.
Towns star Jessica Giudice-Nairn will lead the WA Country State squad.
Giudice-Nairn will be playing alongside Towns teammate Olivia Bidwell with their coach Jason Drage indicating their importance on and off the ground.
'Jess just demonstrates pure leadership on the ground and off the ground,' Drage said.
'Her ability to lift teammates up and get everyone up and about is really pleasing to have in your side as a coach.
'Olivia on the other hand is a very skilful player. She may not be the loudest on the ground but she certainly leads by example.
'I am incredibly proud of the two and they thoroughly deserve the opportunity.'
The remaining five players selected in the WA State Country Squad are from Chapman Valley. Ellie Blackmore, Taylah Broadhurst, Tegan Brooks, Eva Campo and Andie Payne will don the yellow and black after impressing selectors this season in the GNWFL.
Chapman Valley coach Matt Reid said it was a great opportunity for the girls after a strong first half to the season.
'As a club point of view it's awesome, a great recognition for the girls themselves, and personally for each one of them it is reward for effort,' he said.
'They all work really hard on and off the track and now have been given a great opportunity thanks to their hard work.
'Taylah and Andie are great leaders and are really valuable for me as coach to be able to lean on.
'Tegan, Ellie and Eva are all new to the side this season and have been welcome inclusions.
'They demand respect on and off the ground and come game day provide us with a real edge.
'Myself and the club as a whole are really proud of the girls and wish them all the best.'
The game kicks off at 7.15pm on Friday, June 20. Entry costs a gold coin donation, with all proceeds going to A Stitch In Time.
The game will be streamed live on Streamer.

Sports stars to push their bodies to the limit for Telethon
Basketball legend Greg Hire is known to push his body to the limits for a good cause and with only 100 days to go until Telethon he will be jumping on a bike again to raise funds for WA kids. The Alcoa Cycle Challenge is Telethon's newest gruelling fitness task to support sick, vulnerable and disadvantaged children across WA. Former Perth Wildcats player, who founded mental health charity A Stitch in Time, put his hand up to lead the 8-hour cycling event after bike riding 3249km to raise money for suicide prevention last year. 'I rode from Kununurra to Perth and only a few weeks later was the Telethon Family Festival and I just felt captivated and inspired and wanted to do more,' he said. 'I think the greatest gift you can do is help impact lives and I can do that through this, it's a no brainer.' Hire will be taking the Telethon baton from former rugby player Matt Fuller who pushed his body to the limit 15 times for Telethon with 24-hour fitness challenges. 'This is a continuation of Matty Fuller's physical challenges and what a fantastic legacy he's left Telethon and I'm just trying to continue that,' he said. 'Nothing like burning your glutes for a great cause.' The cycle challenge will take place on Sunday, October 19 at the Telethon Family Festival. Joining Hire will be former West Coast Eagles star and Triple M's Xavier Ellis as well as Scotch College students who have decided to take on the challenge at school. It will be a challenge close to the heart for Ellis, whose young nephew was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis — a genetic disorder that primarily affects the lungs and digestive system by causing a buildup of thick, sticky mucus. 'Telethon has always been a great thing for the community but my one-year-old nephew has cystic fibrosis now so I've seen the inner works of the support via Telethon to Cystic Fibrosis WA,' he said. 'There's definitely a lot of excitement around this especially with Greg competing,' he said. 'The work that Telethon is doing with kids is so vital so getting behind that is such a great thing for any community.' To challenge yourself or a team to ride visit the Alcoa Cycle Challenge. RAC Arena and the Perth CBD will come alive on October 18 and 19 for Telethon with the funds raised ensuring more than 161 beneficiaries can continue to improve WA childrens' futures.
