Universal Digital Inc. Announces Bitcoin Treasury Strategy Across North America And Asia

Vancouver, Canada, June 16th, 2025, Chainwire
Company Begins Bitcoin Accumulation And Signs Non-binding Strategic Mou With Japan's Gfa Co., Ltd.
Targets Launching Bitcoin Treasuries in Asia's US$25 Trillion Public Market
Universal Digital Inc. (the 'Company' or 'Universal Digital') (CSE: 'LFG', FSE: 8R20) is pleased to announce the launch of its Bitcoin Treasury Strategy, which will form a core pillar of the Company's capital allocation framework. As an initial step, the Company has commenced the orderly divestment of its existing altcoin holdings, with the proceeds to be reallocated toward Bitcoin accumulation under a new reserve model.
The goal of this strategy is to enhance long-term net asset value and align the Company with global trends in institutional digital asset adoption. Universal Digital views Bitcoin as a complementary reserve asset and plans to implement the strategy in a transparent and phased manner.
As part of this initiative, the Company plans to collaborate with publicly-listed companies across Asia to implement Bitcoin treasury models, leveraging the region's growing institutional and retail interest in digital assets and its increasing openness to blockchain-based financial innovation. According to Chainalysis, Eastern Asia accounted for approximately 8.9% of global on-chain cryptocurrency transaction volume between July 2023 and June 2024, with the bulk of activity driven by institutional and professional investors in markets like Japan, South Korea, and Hong Kong.
In furtherance of this regional focus, on June 12, 2025, the Company entered into a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding ('MOU') with GFA Co., Ltd. ('GFA'), a Tokyo Stock Exchange-listed diversified financial and technology group (TSE: 8783). The MOU sets out a partnership framework for jointly advancing Bitcoin-based corporate finance models in Japan.
Under the MOU, the companies will jointly explore: Introducing Bitcoin reserve models to Japanese listed companies;
Structuring capital raising tools such as warrants and market-based offerings to fund Bitcoin acquisitions; and
Enhancing governance, investor relations, and custody frameworks for digital assets.
The MOU also sets the stage for broader collaboration in Japan's digital economy, including joint investments in public companies, the development of blockchain-based corporate structures, initiatives that connect Bitcoin adoption with cultural IP and Web3-driven consumer ecosystems. The MOU was entered on an arm's length basis and there are no related party interests between Universal Digital and GFA. 'Our Bitcoin Treasury Strategy marks a deliberate shift in how we manage capital — by holding Bitcoin as a long-term treasury asset, we aim to enhance balance sheet strength and align with the evolving global financial landscape,' said Tim Chan, CEO of the Company. 'The framework we've established with GFA enables us to explore extending this model to Asia, where digital assets are gaining traction among public companies and institutional investors.' 'Universal Digital's and its management's experience with the crypto and Bitcoin treasury combined with our expertise on the Japanese markets makes us a strong team. I look forward to working closely with Universal Digital to introduce bitcoin reserve model to Japanese listed companies.' Stated Gen Matsuda, CEO of GFA Co., Ltd.
The MOU is non-binding and provides a framework for further negotiations and joint structuring discussions.

Institutional Investment Strategies & Regulatory Clarity Driving Crypto Bull Run

In 2024, cryptocurrencies once again entered a bull market. However, unlike the crypto bull markets of 2017 and 2021, when both Bitcoin as well as Altcoins like Ethereum, experienced rapid price appreciation, this time it seems as though Bitcoin is the main beneficiary of renewed bullish sentiment. Cryptocurrency prices can be found on Binance . Take a look at price performance over the past year, and one can see that, while Bitcoin is up by 71.9% over the past twelve months, Ethereum has fallen by around 26.3% . Other major Altcoins, like BNB, Binance's native token have gained since last year, but these gains have trailed that of BTC. This is not surprising. A key driver of this latest crypto bull run has been institutional adoption of Bitcoin. First, in early 2024, the SEC approved the launch of spot Bitcoin ETFs. With a compliance-friendly vehicle for crypto ownership coming online, institutional investors cycled significant capital into these funds. By year's end, the value of all U.S.-listed spot Bitcoin ETFs totaled $104.1 billion , with $27.4 billion of this figure representing investment from institutions with assets under management exceeding $100 million. Then, the election of Donald Trump to a second term as U.S. President spurred another bullish wave, as market participants anticipated his new administration would fast-track regulatory clarity in the United States. So far, confidence in U.S. regulatory clarity has increased, as policymakers on both sides of the aisle finalize a clear and comprehensive crypto regulatory framework . Now, as the latest bull wave calms down, the questions now are whether a new bull wave will emerge, when regulatory clarity becomes reality, and whether major Altcoins, not just Bitcoin, will benefit in terms of price appreciation. For further insight into these questions, let's take a look at a recent interview with a crypto industry leader. 2024-2025 Crypto Bull Run: Driven by Institutional Allocation to Bitcoin Back in 2017, the cryptocurrency bull run was driven in large part by speculation in initial coin offerings (ICOs). During the 2021 bull run, a major factor at play was the rapid rise in popularity of non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The 2024-2025 crypto bull run, however, has been differentiated by both its outsized focus on Bitcoin, and the outsized participation of institutional investors rather than crypto whales and a critical mass of retail traders. Earlier this month, Catherine Chen, Head of VIP and Institutional at Binance, sat down with Behind Binance host Jessica Walker, to discuss the dynamics of the latest crypto bull run , and what it means for crypto prices moving forward. According to Chen, institutional interest in crypto has been steadily growing, with last year's debut of spot cryptocurrency ETFs serving as a "pivotal moment" for institutional adoption. As Chen explained, "at the very minimum all of these institutional investor(s) has a fiduciary duty to at least take a proper look at this asset class and thanks to the introduction of ETF this asset class has also been given the much needed legitimacy." That said, Chen also argues that different types of institutional investors are moving into crypto at differing paces, with larger, more conservative institutional investors still largely sitting on the sidelines. Per Chen, "regulatory clarity" remains the key hurdle. Certain institutional investors, like insurance companies and pension funds, need well-refined regulations in order to move forward with direct crypto investments. What This Means for Bitcoin and Altcoin Prices Although the aforementioned interview focused primarily on institutional adoption, one can infer from this interview what recent institutional adoption trends could mean for both Bitcoin and Altcoin prices moving forward. Based on Chen's insights on regulatory clarity, it's clear that, once the U.S. and other major jurisdictions finalize and implement their cryptocurrency regulatory regimes, this could spur an even greater inflow of capital into this asset class. At first, as seen recently, this may simply mean a further bull run in which Bitcoin continues to experience outsized price appreciation relative to major Altcoins like ETH and BNB. However, in time, this could translate into a more significant bull run for Altcoins as well. Once institutional investors complete their initial allocation to Bitcoin, allocation to ETH and other major Altcoins could pick up as well, especially as new spot Altcoin ETFs make it to market. In short, given the large role institutional investors have played in this latest bull run, it is not surprising that the situation has played out far differently than the above-mentioned 2017 and 2021 bull runs. The Takeaway for Retail Investors With Bitcoin price plateauing, after extended rallies from October 2024 to January 2025, then from April 2025 through May 2025, it may at first seem like this latest bull run is coming to an end. However, per another crypto market expert, HashKey Capital's Xu Han, "the crypto cycle is still in a growth phase." Furthermore, per Han, there is another potential catalyst that could extend the current bull run. That would be the anticipated shift from hawkish to dovish monetary policy by the U.S. Federal Reserve. In other words, if the Feds continue to lower rates, as well as complete its wind-down of institutional tightening, the resultant liquidity boost could be a boon for crypto prices, given historical trends. Retail investors should keep all of this mind, when deciding whether to go bullish or bearish in the current market environment.

EU Threatens US Planes And Whiskey While Pressing For Deal

Brussels plans to target US goods including planes, cars and whiskey if trade talks with Washington fail, according to a list seen by AFP on Tuesday, as the bloc renewed its push for a deal. Trade commissioner Maros Sefcovic was to talk to US counterpart Jamieson Greer Tuesday, a day after speaking with Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. The European Commission said that Brussels was still hopeful for a "good outcome" in the tariffs standoff. US President Donald Trump threw a curveball into months of EU-US negotiations at the weekend when he announced he would slap a 30-percent levy on the bloc's goods from August 1 if no deal was made. Until Trump's ultimatum, the EU had been hoping for an accord last week that would stave off higher tariffs and avoid a damaging trade war with its biggest commercial partner. On Monday, Brussels shared with member states a list of US goods worth 72 billion euros ($84 billion) that could be hit by levies if tariff negotiations fail -- with several capitals urging the bloc to toughen its stance. The 202-page document, seen by AFP on Tuesday, lists big-ticket items like US-made aircraft, cars, chemicals and electrical equipment alongside sundry other items, such as live bees, camels, parrots, condoms and opium. Bourbon whiskey, whose targeting faced resistance from France and Italy for fear of reprisals against European wine and spirits, also features. So are nails, snails, and Christmas trees. Commission spokesman Olof Gill declined to provide details of Sefcovic's Monday call with Lutnick, but said a technical team from the commission, in charge of trade policy for the 27-nation EU, was heading to Washington "as we speak". "We are in the most sensitive stage of those negotiations right now, working towards getting an agreement in principle over the line before the deadline," he told reporters. "We wouldn't be engaging in negotiations if we didn't think those negotiations could lead to a good outcome. So clearly, we think that an agreement in principle, as we have said, is within reach." The commission's new list of reprisal targets comes in addition to a first package -- worth 21 billion euros -- which it drew up after Trump slapped tariffs on imports of EU steel and aluminium. That retaliation remains suspended until early next month to allow for more negotiations, and Gill said the EU would not decide on imposing the second round of tariffs before August 1.

Positive outlook shared by German investors as tariff fears subside

Investor expectations for Europe's top economy over the next six months rose 5.2 points to plus 52.7 points, the July release of the ZEW survey showed. Analysts polled by financial data firm FactSet had expected a rise of just 2.7 points. Sentiment has now more than recovered from its April plunge after Trump announced bruising "Liberation Day" tariffs and has reached its highest level since February 2022, before Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. "Despite ongoing uncertainty in connection with global trade conflicts, almost two thirds of experts expect the German economy to improve," said Achim Wambach, head of the ZEW institute. The mood appeared to be boosted by "hopes of an early solution to the US-EU customs dispute" as well as of stimulus spending from the German government, he added. Trump had threatened a blanket 20-percent tariff on EU exports into the United States, but later pushed back its implementation to July 9th to give time for negotiations after markets worldwide plunged. That deadline was again postponed Saturday, with markets reacting calmly after Trump threatened steeper 30-percent duties from August 1st if the EU did not strike a deal. In a piece of good news for Chancellor Friedrich Merz's new government, investors' mood also improved when it came to the economy's current performance, with the barometer rising 12.5 points to sit at minus 59.5. Advertisement Merz in June unveiled tax breaks to incentivise private investment as well as plans to borrow and spend 847 billion euros in a bid to upgrade German infrastructure and boost stagnant growth.
