What a fabulous series for Mohammed Siraj. Whole-hearted, no-nonsense and a highly skilled bowler. Just look at the deliveries that did for Zak Crawley and Ollie Pope. An excellent yorker, then the scrambled seam, Jimmy Andersonstyle. Don't let yesterday's drop take away from anything. Siraj will finish as the leading wicket-taker in the series. He's been the best bowler by a distance.
Brook should be No2
Michael Vaughan said he would prefer Brook to Pope as vice-captain, and I agree. Brook is assured of a place in this side and looks a leader. He would naturally feed off Ben Stokes. The simple fact is that Pope's place in this side is vulnerable. His average in the fourth innings of Tests is 16.7 and for a No3 that is nowhere near enough.
Another law ignored...
Has the law relating to substitute fielders changed? It states that a substitute is only allowed when a fielder is injured or ill. Nowadays, players just walk off for a convenient rest or a shirt change. It's a joke — another case of a law totally disregarded. The match referee could easily clamp down on it but I can't see that happening.
Tykes' mystery man
Another day full of Yorkshire pride. They were fabulous tons from Brook and Root, two quality players who never look fazed, regardless of the situation. I can tell you that there's another brilliant talent on the way from Yorkshire. He hasn't played in the first team but keep an eye out. I'm not giving away any names just yet…

India have been very impressive over the series, but haven't won the main moments. If Rohit Sharma or Virat Kohli were playing, the scoreline may look different. Certain players sniff out the big moments and are proactive rather than reactive. If India go down 3-1, they will think: 'How on earth did we lose that?'

The break came at the right time for England because India were throwing the kitchen sink at them, and, all of a sudden, the scoreboard stopped moving. Rio Ngumoha shines to fuel Liverpool's optimism for new season
A vacancy has arisen on the left of Liverpool's forward line and an early, eye-catching application to fill the role has arrived from a 16-year-old. Rio Ngumoha further enhanced his first team claims with a sparkling display against Athletic Bilbao that underlined the formidable strength, and options, available to Arne Slot. Ngumoha opened the scoring superbly and teed up a second goal for Darwin Núñez inside five minutes at Anfield in the first of two pre-season friendlies against the Basque club. A packed Anfield crowd had to wait for the second fixture to catch a first glimpse of new signings Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Hugo Ekitiké and Jeremie Frimpong. Ngumoha kept them entertained and whetted the appetite prior to their appearances as Liverpool recorded a comfortable 4-1 win in match one. The left winger is not eligible to sign a professional contract until he turns 17 on the 29th of this month but showed why Chelsea were livid when Liverpool tempted him away from their academy last summer. In only the second minute of his second senior appearance at Anfield the teenager, who made his full debut against Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup last season, set off from the halfway line and, with Athletic defenders all in retreat, curled an excellent finish into the bottom corner of the Kop goal from 20 yards. Ngumoha produced something similar in Liverpool's previous pre-season outing against Yokohama F Marinos last week. That goal came on the day Luis Díaz completed his £65.5m transfer to Bayern Munich, creating an opening on the left that could be filled by any one of Cody Gakpo, Wirtz, Ekitiké and perhaps the 16-year-old talent from London. His display was enough to prompt chants of 'Rio' from the Kop and a song in his honour from the singer who appeared during the interval. Ngumoha's emergence – predicted with confidence by John Terry when he lamented the youngster's exit from Chelsea – is timely for Liverpool as they await Newcastle's next move on Alexander Isak. There may not be a rush to replace Díaz given the options already at Slot's disposal. The Premier League champions can afford to wait on their prime target for the No 9 role and leave their £110m offer for Isak on Newcastle's table. Three minutes after his individual goal Ngumoha headed down a Ben Doak cross for Núñez to convert from close range. Anyone looking for clues as to Núñez's next step – with Al Hilal interested in taking him to the Saudi Pro League – will have noted the hand-on-the-heart celebration that followed from the £60m-rated Uruguay international in front of the Kop. Man United 's interest remains - and it was thought last week that Old Trafford was his preferred destination - but unlike Newcastle, they did not table a formal offer over the weekend. The Magpies would like an outcome one way or the other over the next 24 hours, given their need to bring in a striker ahead of the season opener at Aston Villa a week on Saturday. Alexander Isak remains intent on a move to Liverpool, but the Premier League champions will only return with a new offer once Newcastle have the Swede's replacement lined up.
