McLaren to exit Formula E at end of season; fans eager for updates on Taylor Barnard and Sam Bird's future
McLaren has been one of the strongest teams in Formula E since joining the championship three years ago. However, according to the latest updates, the company will exit Formula E at the end of this season. The NEOM McLaren Formula E team currently features the youngest driver on the grid, Taylor Barnard, alongside the experienced Sam Bird. What the future holds for the two British drivers remains to be seen.
Why McLaren is pulling out of Formula E?
It has been revealed that McLaren's owners are planning to shift their focus towards Formula One — where they are currently leading the season — as well as IndyCar and their new hypercar project, set to debut in 2027 in the World Endurance Championship.
As per Reuters, McLaren CEO Zak Brown said in a statement, "The time is right to explore other opportunities that more closely align with McLaren Racing's overall strategic direction - including our 2027 entry into the FIA World Endurance Championship. For now, we are focused on setting this great team up for future success by working towards securing a new owner."

also shared a statement on its official Instagram account. It read: 'McLaren Racing confirmed today that following a strategic review of its racing portfolio the decision was taken not to continue our participation in the FIA Formula E World Championship beyond the current 2024/25 season.'
It further read: 'Work is already well under way to set this great team up for future success by working towards securing new investment. In the meantime, we remain fully committed to building on our strong start to the season and fighting for on-track success until the very last race.'
'Our heartfelt thanks go to the team for their continued commitment and dedication, and to Formula E, our partners, and our fans for their continued support.'
Expressing concern for the McLaren drivers, a fan wrote in the comments section of the post, 'Hopefully Taylor and Sam can find a new team cause it would be sad if they left the sport.' Another wrote, 'This is so sad! I hope not only our amazing drivers find their paths to keep around the sport but also the amazing team on the garage and back home. You will be missed papaya.'

Pollock shines as Lions win big in Australia tour opener
Emerging star Henry Pollock produced an explosive performance as the British and Irish Lions started their Australia tour with an emphatic 54-7 win against Western Force in Perth on Saturday. HT Image In their first match in Australia since 2013, the Lions ran in eight tries on a cool night in front of 46,656 fans at Optus Stadium, most of whom were loudly supporting the tourists. But the victory was soured after Wales scrum-half Tomos Williams suffered a hamstring injury just after the interval following his second try. After a shock 28-24 defeat to Argentina in a warm-up in Dublin, the Lions looked far slicker with a revamped line-up led by 20-year-old Englishman Pollock. Having made his debut against the Pumas, Pollock spectacularly set up Williams in the 15th minute with a burst of speed. But there were teething problems for Andy Farrell's team as they opened their nine-game Australian itinerary, highlighted by a three-match series against the Wallabies starting on July 19. The Lions were undisciplined and conceded six penalties in a frenetic first half against a Force team with six internationals in their starting XV. However, the gulf in talent between the teams was evident as the Lions ran riot in a one-sided second half with five tries. The Lions easily beat the Force 69-17 on their last Australian tour and something similar was expected against a team that finished ninth in the 11-team Super Rugby ladder, the lowest of the four Australian franchises. The Nic White-led Force were without key Wallabies Carlo Tizzano, Jeremy Williams and Harry Potter. It only took two minutes for the Lions to hit the scoreboard after a brilliant flick from wing James Lowe found Ireland hooker Dan Sheehan, who celebrated his captaincy debut in style. But the Force hit back from the early barrage when White barrelled over through heavy traffic before the home side dominated possession. Wallabies winger Dylan Pietsch proved a handful for a Lions defence under considerable pressure. Pollock ignited his team with a blistering run to slither through a crack in Force's defence before a superb offload to Williams. Both teams started to wilt before the interval amid chaotic play as Finn Russell caught the Force napping and found Elliot Daly. Tensions boiled over following the try with Pollock in the middle of a fracas. But he was soon in the sin bin after receiving a yellow card as the Lions' penalties built up. The Lions put the foot down after half time with Williams flying over the corner having superbly combined with Lowe. But Williams pulled up clutching his left hamstring and limped off the field. The Lions' superior depth and class was on show in an ominous statement as Daly capped a strong effort with his second try. Their tour continues against Queensland Reds in Brisbane on Wednesday. tl/pst This article was generated from an automated news agency feed without modifications to text.

Sam Bird takes part in extrication practice in Formula E, leaves fans momentarily shocked
Image credit: McLaren FE Every motorsport involves risk, where a single crash can prove life-threatening. Formula E has maintained a strong safety record over its eleven seasons so far. However, as a precautionary measure, Formula E drivers undergo extrication practice once a year to ensure they are familiar with the emergency protocols in case of an incident. Recently, NEOM McLaren driver Sam Bird participated in one such practice session. A glimpse of the session was shared with fans on social media, offering insight into this important aspect of motorsport safety. Watch: Extrication practice in Formula E The video shows Sam Bird acting as an injured driver while the FIA Formula E safety team carefully lifts him out of the car and places him on a stretcher. The procedure is designed to avoid further injury, particularly to the neck or any broken bones. McLaren FE shared the video on Instagram with the caption: 'Earlier today, Sam completed his extrication practice with the @fiaformulae safety team. This is an exercise that happens at each race with a different team each time. This is for both the safety of the drivers and the extrication team should an incident occur where the driver would need assistance exiting the car. Each driver has to do this at least once a year to ensure their own safety. ' Some fans were momentarily alarmed upon seeing the video. One commented, 'Goodness grief — not me watching the first few seconds of this without context.' Another said, 'That scared me there for a second.' In general, fans appreciated the behind-the-scenes look at Formula E's extrication protocol. 'Never seen the neck wrap/support before, very neat,' wrote one. Another added, 'Much love to the safety teams, always prepared and always do an incredible job.' A third said, 'Awesome to see, safety above all.' One fan even joked, 'An FIA-mandated nap sounds quite nice.' Also Read: Who is Sam Bird's girlfriend Jess Impiazzi?
