India: President Droupadi Murmu extends Eid-al-Adha greetings
On the occasion, the President urged the countrymen to take a pledge to work with a spirit of dedication for the society and the country.
In a social media post on X, the President wrote, "On the auspicious occasion of Eid-uz-Zuha, I extend my heartiest greetings and best wishes to all my countrymen, especially my Muslim brothers and sisters. This festival explains the importance of sacrifice, faith and many noble ideals. On this auspicious occasion, let us all take a pledge to work with a spirit of dedication for the society and the country."

Earlier on Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted people on the occasion of Eid ul-Adha, and called for the occasion to "inspire harmony and strengthen the fabric of peace in our society."
"Best wishes on Eid ul-Adha. May this occasion inspire harmony and strengthen the fabric of peace in our society. Wishing everyone good health and prosperity," his post on X read.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju also wished people on the occasion, posting his greetings in Urdu, he said, "Happy Eid al-Adha! Heartfelt congratulations to all Muslim brothers and sisters on the occasion of Eid al-Adha."
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also wished people, calling on them to unite and foster a stronger bond to work towards a peaceful, harmonious, and just society.
"Eid al-Adha celebrates the noble values of selfless sacrifice, trust, and forgiveness. As we celebrate this joyous occasion, may we all unite to foster stronger fraternity and work towards a peaceful, harmonious, and just society. Eid Mubarak!" Kharge's post said.
As people across the country celebrate Eid, multiple dargahs and mosques were filled with people offering prayers early in the morning. In Mumbai, people offered Namaz at the Jama Masjid Mahim Dargah, while in Delhi, at the first light of dawn, people turned to the Jama masjid to offer their prayers.
The air echoed with chants of "Eid Mubarak," as families, young and old, embraced and celebrated the spirit of sacrifice and compassion that the festival symbolises.
Eid al-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to God. The day is marked by prayers, charitable acts, and the ritual sacrifice of animals, with a message of sharing and empathy at its core.
The date changes every year, as it's based on the Islamic lunar calendar, which is about 11 days shorter than the Western 365-day Gregorian calendar.

Accra: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday visited the Nkrumah Memorial Park in Accra, Ghana, and paid tribute to Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana's founding President and a revered leader of the African independence movement. The Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park is dedicated to the prominent Ghanaian leader, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah. The KNMP's mausoleum, designed by Don Arthur, houses the mortal remains of Kwame Nkrumah and his wife Fathia Nkrumah. Kwame Nkrumah was a pivotal figure in Ghana's independence movement and a leading voice for Pan-Africanism. He played a crucial role in the Gold Coast's transition to independence in 1957, becoming its first Prime Minister and later its first President. Nkrumah led the Gold Coast to independence from British colonial rule in 1957, renaming it Ghana. This achievement made Ghana the first sub-Saharan African nation to achieve independence, a milestone that resonated throughout the continent. His legacy extends beyond Ghana, as he actively promoted the unification of Africa and inspired movements for liberation across the continent. Nkrumah was a staunch advocate for the unity of African nations. He believed that a united Africa could overcome the challenges of colonialism and neo-colonialism. He co-founded the Non-Aligned Movement, a group of states not formally aligned with or against any major power bloc, further showcasing his commitment to international cooperation. Nkrumah was influenced by socialist ideologies, particularly Marxism, and his writings, such as "Neo-Colonialism, the Last Stage of Imperialism," explored the subtle forms of domination that emerged after formal colonialism. Nkrumah's rule was not without its challenges. He faced growing discontent due to his authoritarian leadership style and economic policies. He was eventually overthrown in a coup in 1966. On Wednesday, PM Modi was conferred with The Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana, the country's highest civilian honour, by President John Mahama. PM Modi thanked Ghana's President for the honour and called it a "matter of immense pride". "It is a matter of great pride and honour for me to be conferred with Ghana's national award, The Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana, by the President. I express my heartfelt gratitude to President Mahama ji, the Government of Ghana and the people of Ghana. I humbly accept this honour on behalf of 1.4 billion Indians," PM Modi said. He said he dedicated the award to the youth of both countries. During his visit, PM Modi held talks with Ghana President Mahama and the two leaders agreed to elevate their relationship to a "Comprehensive Partnership." This is the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Ghana in over 30 years. The trip is expected to deepen the India-Ghana partnership and signal New Delhi's continued engagement with Africa and the Global South.

CII expects Indian Economy to grow in the range of 6.4-6.7% in FY26
New Delhi: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on Thursday said that it sees India's economy growing at a pace of 6.4-6.7 per cent in 2026-27, boosted by strong domestic demand. At a press conference in New Delhi CII President however believes that geopolitical uncertainty could pose downside risk to Indian economic growth. Amidst this global flux, India has shown resistance and has shown better growth trajectory as compared to other major economies such as China, United Kingdom (UK), US and Euro area. Industry body CII also proposed a series of next-generation reforms needed to enhance ease of doing business in India. These reforms span across multiple domains, including taxation, manufacturing costs, fiscal policy, environmental compliance, and logistics. On GST reforms, CII recommends rate rationalisation from 5 slabs of current rates to three slabs. Essential items at 5 per cent, luxury and sin goods at 28 per cent, and a unified rate of 12-18 per cent for other items. CIIs other recommendations include streamlining of Input Tax Credit (ITC) to eliminate credit blockages, coordinating audits across states, and reducing litigation through a National Appellate Authority. The Industry body also proposes bringing petroleum, electricity, and real estate under the GST ambit. CII also asked for direct tax reforms, it recommends implementing the Income Tax Bill to simplify processes and reduce litigation. Measures such as Advance Pricing Agreements and Dispute Resolution Schemes should be encourage to avoid legal delays. For Customs Duty reforms, CII proposed a 3-tier structure, 0-2.5 per cent for raw materials, 2.5-5 per cent for intermediates, and 5-7 per cent for final goods to streamline imports and enhance competitiveness. Under Rationalising Cost of Manufacturing, land reforms suggest reducing over 50 zoning categories to 5-7 for more flexible land use, easing urban restrictions, and unlocking land held by PSUs. In power sector, CII advocates tariff rationalisation, digitisation of distribution, and improved grid transmission.

"Will have to cross that bridge when we come to it": Jaishankar on Lindsey Graham's Russian sanctions bill
Washington, DC: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Wednesday that the Indian embassy and ambassador have been in touch with US Senator Lindsey Graham regarding the bill on Russia and India will have to cross that bridge if it comes to it. While addressing a press conference, Jaishankar stated that India's concerns and interests on energy, security have been made conversant to Graham. When asked about US plans to impose 500 per cent tariffs on the import of Russian Oil, Jaishankar said, "Regarding Senator Lindsey Graham's bill, any development which is happening in the US Congress is of interest to us if it impacts our interest or could impact our interest. So, we have been in touch with Senator Graham. The embassy, ambassador have been in touch. Our concerns and our interests on energy, security have been made conversant to him. So, we'll then have to cross that bridge when we come to it, if we come to it." Graham's sanctions bill on Russia would impose a 500 per cent tariff on imports from any nation that purchases Russian oil, gas, uranium and other products, The Hill reported. The bill has over 80 co-sponsors in the Senate, potentially making it veto-proof. After the war erupted between Russia and Ukraine, the US and Western nations imposed sanctions on Moscow. However, India has continued to purchase Russian oil. Earlier in May, Lindsey Graham said he is in touch with US President Donald Trump regarding the bill. Republican lawmakers have indicated they are worried about moving the bill but are waiting for approval from Trump before bringing the legislation to the floor. When asked whether Trump is giving instructions on when the bill will come to the floor, Graham stated, "We are separate entities coordinating with each other," The Hill reported. Graham is proposing a carveout for his Russian sanctions bill to exclude nations that help Ukraine's defence, protecting them from a 500 per cent tariff for trading with Russia.
