Singer Charli XCX Wins Top Prizes at BRIT Awards
"Brat", which inspired fans to film themselves dancing to its tracks and whose lime green cover look was adopted by US presidential hopeful Kamala Harris' campaign on social media after the singer referenced her in a post, won the coveted album of the year category.
Charli XCX, who had led nominations, was also named artist of the year and best dance act. Her single "Guess", featuring Billie Eilish, won song of the year beating tracks including the Beatles' "Now and Then".
The 32-year-old pop star had won her first BRIT, songwriter of the year, earlier this week.
"I've always felt like an outsider in the industry but particularly in the British music industry and so it feels really nice to be recognised on this album," she said as she received the album of the year award.
"I would just like to share this with all artists who have ever felt that they need to compromise to be recognised and to have their moment in the sun because I think I'm living proof that maybe it takes a long time, but... you don't need to compromise your vision."
The singer released her debut studio album in 2013. "Brat" was her sixth and she said she would "probably never make a record like this again".
"It's so in my instinct to just like not do the same thing twice... I will probably reject it completely and do something completely different," she said.
Jazz quintet Ezra Collective was named group of the year.
"This moment right here is because of the great youth clubs and great teachers and the great schools that support young people playing music," drummer Femi Koleoso said in one of several of the night's acceptance speeches that called for more support for young musicians and grassroots venues.
US singer Chappell Roan won international artist of the year while her track "Good Luck, Babe!" won international song of the year.
"Espresso" singer Sabrina Carpenter was named as the first international recipient of the global success award, which recognizes artists with "phenomenal global sales", following in the footsteps of One Direction, Adele, Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith.
The ceremony also featured a tribute dedicated to late One Direction singer Liam Payne, who died in October after falling from a third-floor hotel room balcony in Buenos Aires, shocking fans of the boy band, one of the most popular of all time.

Colbert, who addressed the cancellation of his show by a broadcaster that has been widely accused of seeking to curry favor with Trump for business reasons, came out swinging -- telling Trump to 'go f--- yourself.' 'The Late Show,' a storied US TV franchise dating back to 1993 when it was hosted by David Letterman, will go off the air in May 2026 following a surprise announcement by broadcaster CBS last week. The channel is part of Paramount, which is in the throes of an $8 billion takeover that requires approval by the Trump-controlled Federal Communications Commission. It pulled the plug three days after Colbert skewered CBS for settling a lawsuit with Trump. He accused it of paying what he termed a 'a big fat bribe' of $16 million to the president for what he called 'deceptive' editing of an interview with his 2024 election opponent, former vice president Kamala Harris. Trump reveled in the firing of one of his most prolific detractors, posting on his Truth Social platform that 'I absolutely love that Colbert was fired.' Colbert joked Monday that it had always been his dream starting out as an improv comic in Chicago in the 1980s to have a sitting president celebrate the end of his career. He also disputed the logic of CBS who insisted the cancellation was 'purely a financial decision.' He said that in an anonymous leak over the weekend, CBS had appeared to suggest his show lost $40 million last year. Colbert joked that he could account for losing $24 million annually -- but wasn't to blame for the other $16 million, a reference to CBS News's settlement with Trump. Monday's cold open was an unsparing riff on Trump demanding that the Washington Commanders change its name back to its former name which was widely considered a slur against Native Americans. Colbert returned to this topic after addressing his show's cancellation, proclaiming that they had killed his show but not him, and doing a deep dive on reporting about just how close Trump and Epstein were. It was a formula that would have been familiar to fans of the show: the deadly serious leavened with humor and quick wit. Outside the taping at Midtown Manhattan's Ed Sullivan theater, protesters held placards that said 'Colbert Stays! Trump Must Go!' Audience member Elizabeth Kott, a 48-year-old high school teacher, called Colbert's firing 'terrible.' 'It's really awful that it's come to that in this country, where companies feel the need to obey in advance. It's really awful,' she told AFP. 'A plague on CBS' Colbert's lead guest Monday, acclaimed actress Sandra Oh, did not hold back, proclaiming a 'plague on CBS and Paramount' -- the network on which Colbert's channel is broadcast and its media giant proprietor. Charli xcx and the 1975 drummer george daniel are married
Charli XCX and The 1975 drummer George Daniel have tied the knot. A representative for Daniel confirmed to The Associated Press that the pair married over the weekend. The couple were seen posing in front of London's Hackney Town Hall on Saturday. Daniel wore a suit, and Charli XCX wore a Vivienne Westwood bridal mini dress, Vogue confirmed. Representatives for Charli XCX did not immediately respond to AP's request for comment. The BRAT pop star posted a video on TikTok while wearing the same bridal minidress. It featured the text 'when george isn't crying when he sees me walking down the aisle' and a caption 'luckily he did.' George harrison's beatles-era photos to be released in new book
A book of Beatles-era photographs taken by George Harrison, many of them never published, will be released next year. Random House announced Thursday that The Third Eye, which includes more than 250 black and white and color images, is scheduled for Fall 2026. Harrison's widow, Olivia Harrison, compiled and curated the book, which covers the years 1963-69 and includes photos of the Beatles everywhere from their native Liverpool to India to Shea Stadium. 'I want to show people from George's unique photographic perspective during the Beatles' early years, the moments when the whole of your life is ahead of you with unknowable possibilities,' Olivia Harrison said of her late husband, who died in 2001, in a statement released by Random House. 'His images in The Third Eye capture that spirit.' The Harrison book features essays by Olivia Harrison and by two celebrated literary authors: Irish novelist Colm Tóibín (a former chancellor of the University of Liverpool) wrote the introduction and American short story writer George Saunders contributed an epilogue. The Third Eye also includes George Harrison's words alongside his pictures. Fellow Beatles Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr also have released photo books. Starr's Photograph – also the title of a hit song written by Starr and Harrison – came out in 2015. In 2023, McCartney published 1964: Eyes of the Storm.
