The story of "Sister Hong," also known as "China's Red Uncle," a man who secretly filmed sexual encounters with allegedly over 1,600 men while posing as a woman, recently shook Chinese social media. On July 5, police in Nanjing arrested a 38-year-old man, surnamed Jiao, for distributing obscene content. According to local media, Jiao had set up a hidden camera in his home and filmed himself having sex with unsuspecting male visitors. He reportedly lured them in by pretending to be a woman online. Aside from digital violation and deceit, the case has also snowballed into a disturbing public health scare as the STD (sexually transmitted disease) results of several of Sister Hong's victims test positive.According to areport, out of 237 men who have so far participated in the ongoing investigation, at least three have tested positive for HIV. Authorities have not confirmed whether the infections are directly linked to Jiao, but the news has intensified concerns. Many of the victims were in relationships, raising the possibility of wider STI transmission. In China, knowingly transmitting an STD carries a potential sentence of three to ten years in prison. However, this portion of Jiao's charges may depend on whether transmission can be legally proven. Regardless, the charge of spreading obscene material already holds a maximum penalty of two years.'Sister Hong' was initially rumoured to be in his 60s, but police confirmed he is 38 and targets heterosexual men. While claims of 1,600 victims were dismissed, over 1,000 explicit videos have still surfaced online.Since the news broke, the case has exploded online, not just because of the nature of the crime, but due to the scale. Thousands of explicit videos reportedly recorded by Jiao have been leaked across social media platforms and private message groups. Many of the men featured were unaware they were being filmed and now find themselves the subject of viral exploitation. The leak has had severe consequences for some, with reports of broken relationships and psychological trauma. On platforms like Weibo and Douyin, users have expressed fury and disbelief at how such an operation could go undetected for so long.Online, Jiao has become known as 'Uncle Red' or 'Sister Hong' (Red Sister), a nickname that references both his alias and the red light often visible in his room during the recordings. The nickname took off as netizens began circulating screenshots and speculation about his real identity. Despite efforts by platforms to remove the videos and censor discussions, the story continues to trend. Memes, breakdowns of his digital footprint, and unverified victim accounts have turned the case into one of the most widely discussed topics not only on Chinese social media but also on global Instagram and Twitter this month. As police continue to interview more potential victims, public health officials are urging those who may have encountered Jiao to get tested to prevent further spread of the disease.

Instagram model Beverly Slaughter arrested in Florida hit-and-run that killed unborn child; influencer faces 14 felony charges

After nearly three months on the run, 25-year-old influencer and model Beverly Yvonne Slaughter was arrested on July 29 in Fort Lauderdale, South Florida. According to local media reports, police say she was behind the wheel of a high-end Mercedes-Benz S-Class when she caused a devastating crash in the early hours of April 29. The impact left four people hospitalised and ultimately led to the death of an unborn child. Instead of staying at the scene, Slaughter fled, triggering a search that ended with her arrest near a McDonald's parking lot. Victims still reeling from life-altering injuries The crash happened just after 1 a.m. at the intersection of West Sunrise Boulevard and Northwest 24th Avenue. Slaughter allegedly ran a red light at high speed and slammed into a Nissan Altima that was turning left on a green signal. The force of the collision left four passengers in the Altima with serious injuries. One of those victims later died after being taken off life support on May 2. Another was a pregnant woman who lost her unborn child as a result of the crash. The names of the victims have not been publicly released due to redactions in court records. Slaughter tried to hide after the crash, police say According to the police report, after the crash, Slaughter got out of her car and took off on foot. An officer responding to the scene spotted her walking "extremely discreetly" between a bushy fence and a concrete wall near a nearby McDonald's. When stopped, Slaughter reportedly told the officer that her boyfriend had told her to run. Despite the attempt to avoid responsibility, she was arrested at the scene. Years of reckless driving behaviour catch up to her Slaughter's driving record is filled with red flags. Prosecutors say her license has been suspended since 2021 and that she has been convicted multiple times for offences including driving under the influence, fleeing police, reckless driving, and operating a vehicle without a valid license. At the time of the April crash, she should not have been behind the wheel at all. This history is now at the centre of a motion filed by prosecutors asking the court to deny her pretrial release. A 25-year-old Florida influencer, Beverly Slaughter, was arrested for multiple hit-and-run charges and fleeing a car accident scene where a pregnant woman lost her baby. She was driving with a suspended license from prior hit-and-runs. 😳 Prosecutors seek to keep her jailed Assistant State Attorney Ross Weiner, who filed the motion for pretrial detention, argued that Slaughter poses a serious risk to public safety. The motion points to her repeated violations and lack of regard for court orders, stating that no conditions of release would be enough to protect the community. As of now, Slaughter remains behind bars at the Broward Main Jail. From Instagram fame to criminal charges Before her arrest, Slaughter was known on social media for her work as a model and influencer. With thousands of followers, she regularly posted brand partnerships, lifestyle content, and modelling photoshoots. That public persona is now being harshly scrutinised as more details emerge about her past behaviour. Many in the Fort Lauderdale community are outraged that someone with her history was able to keep driving—and that it took a tragedy for it to finally stop. Facing 14 felony charges and mounting public outrage Slaughter is currently facing 14 felony charges, including vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of a crash involving death, and driving with a suspended license causing death. The charges reflect the deadly nature of the crash and the serious injuries involved. With public pressure mounting and prosecutors pushing for the harshest penalties allowed under Florida law, Slaughter's case is expected to move quickly through the courts in the coming weeks. The next court appearance for Beverly Slaughter has not yet been scheduled, but prosecutors have made it clear they will fight to keep her in custody until trial. For the victims' families, the arrest brings a small measure of justice—but the grief and fallout from that April morning are far from over. CA discharged in Torres Jewellers ponzi scheme money laundering case due to lack of evidence

Mumbai: Observing that there is no evidence to indicate that he was actually involved in any process or activity connected with the proceeds of crime, a special PMLA (Prevention of Money-Laundering Act, 2002) court on Tuesday discharged the chartered accountant and statutory auditor Abhishek Gupta. Gupta, who claimed to be a whistleblower, was named by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) as an accused in its chargesheet in the Rs 177 crore money laundering case connected to the Torres Jewellers Ponzi scheme case. "Therefore, considering the limited role assigned against the accused…, it shows that there are no sufficient grounds for proceeding against the accused…for offence under section 3 of the PMLA," the special judge RB Rote said. Taking cognisance of the prosecution's complaint against 12 other accused, the judge said that the evidence prima facie shows that there are sufficient grounds for proceeding against them. The judge summoned the accused. You Can Also Check: Mumbai AQI | Weather in Mumbai | Bank Holidays in Mumbai | Public Holidays in Mumbai Defence advocate Mithilesh Mishra submitted that Gupta, in his capacity as statutory auditor, neither participated in nor had knowledge of any alleged money laundering activities. It was further argued that the prosecution failed to produce any prima facie evidence to indicate his active involvement in the purported offence. The ED filed a complaint alleging that Platinum Hern Pvt Ltd (PHPL), also known as Torres Jewellery, orchestrated a large-scale financial scam. The company is accused of luring investors with promises of exceptionally high weekly returns, ranging from two to nine percent on investments in gold, silver, diamonds, and precious gemstones. They also offered "Investment Bonuses" of 20% for new investor referrals, creating a chain-like system. Investigations allegedly revealed that PHPL marketed synthetic moissanite stones, valued at approximately Rs 230, as high-value investments, despite customers paying significantly more (e.g., Rs 6240). The ED stated that the company reinforced the false narrative of high returns by providing weekly bonuses. Further deceptive practices included the failure to disclose foreign directors' identities, using unlicensed lucky draws, and unregulated advertising on platforms like Instagram and WhatsApp. The ED's investigation, initiated based on multiple FIRs from various police stations in Mumbai and Thane, uncovered that PHPL did not possess the necessary licences to accept public deposits. The total proceeds of crime identified in the complaint amounted to Rs 177 crore. During the course of the investigations, the ED conducted search and seizure operations, attaching proceeds of crime worth Rs 1.75 crore. Among the accused are Platinum Hern Pvt Ltd and Torres Jewellery. Alpesh Khara, alleged hawala entry operator, is allegedly responsible for converting cash into USDT cryptocurrency for PHPL's management. He is also accused of handing over cash collected from customers to others to purchase USDT. Sagar Mehta, a cash handler, Oleksandr Zapichenko alias Alex, and Olena Stoian, Ukrainian nationals, are allegedly responsible for the incorporation of PHPL in India. Another Ukrainian national, Viktoria Kovalenko, director of PHPL, is alleged to have maintained a secret identity. Among other officials of the company are director Sarvesh Surve, CEO Tausif Reyaz alias John Carter, and general manager Tazagul Khasatova alias Tanya. Other accused include Lallan Singh, who allegedly routed cash through banking channels and introduced it into PHPL's books as 'loans' or 'investments' through his proprietary concerns, including Miracle, M/s Sunil Restaurant & Bar, Mulund Online Services, and Prisah Finance. Astrozen Pharma Pvt Ltd and Prisah Advisory Pvt Ltd, both companies linked to Singh, are also accused in the case. The judge found sufficient prima facie evidence against these accused, noting their direct or indirect involvement in the concealment, possession, acquisition, or use of proceeds of crime.

Who is Shama Parveen Ansari, the Bengaluru woman linked to Al-Qaeda propaganda?

Shama Parveen Ansari, originally from Jharkhand and currently residing in RT Nagar, Bengaluru, has emerged as a key figure in an ongoing investigation by the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) into online radicalisation and the spread of extremist propaganda. Shama Parveen Ansari, accused of promoting the anti-national propaganda of Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS), after her arrest by the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) from Bengaluru.(PTI) She was arrested on Tuesday from her residence for allegedly promoting the anti-national ideology of Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS), a banned terrorist organisation. She was brought to Gujarat on Wednesday under transit remand. According to officials, Ansari was using digital platforms to circulate content that called for an 'armed revolution or jihad' against the Government of India. Her activities, authorities claim, were not limited to ideological endorsement, she was actively using social media to spread inflammatory messages designed to create religious discord and incite violence. An official release from the ATS stated that Ansari managed two Facebook pages and one Instagram account, collectively followed by over 10,000 users. Through these platforms, she is alleged to have shared content linked to AQIS and other radical preachers, news agency PTI reported. (Also Read: Bengaluru woman arrested by Gujarat ATS for alleged Al-Qaeda links, online extremist activites) Connection to AQIS and radical preachers This included speeches and videos by AQIS leader Maulana Asim Umar, slain Al-Qaeda ideologue Anwar al-Awlaki, and Maulana Abdul Aziz of Lahore's Lal Masjid. The material promoted themes such as Ghazwa-e-Hind, called for attacks on 'non-believers' or kafirs, and advocated for the overthrow of the Indian government. Investigators also found that Ansari had maintained contact with Pakistani entities via phone and email. Her role in the dissemination of extremist material came to light during a separate ATS operation earlier in July. On July 23, Gujarat ATS had arrested four men from Delhi, Noida, Ahmedabad, and Modasa for allegedly sharing radical and jihadi propaganda videos from AQIS on their social media accounts. The ATS said these videos aimed to incite Indian Muslim youth to reject the country's democratic system and instead impose sharia (Islamic law) through armed rebellion. Among the four arrested was Mohammad Faiq, a resident of Delhi, who had shared provocative videos calling for jihad and terror attacks in India. It was later revealed that Faiq had sourced this content from three social media accounts, two Facebook pages and one Instagram handle, which, according to investigators, were operated by Shama Parveen Ansari. Following this discovery, a Gujarat ATS team, with the support of central agencies and state police, moved to apprehend Ansari in Bengaluru. The ATS is now investigating the extent of Ansari's influence, her network of contacts, and the impact of her digital outreach.
