Fabiano Caruana's blunt interview slamming Freestyle Chess event deleted, then restored, claims player

Indian Express3 days ago
Fabiano Caruana's blunt interview slamming the organisers of Freestyle Chess for allowing live audiences in the playing arena was reportedly deleted from their YouTube channel and was later restored, the player claimed on his own podcast, C Squared. Caruana had said that he was 'mostly glad' that the Las Vegas leg of the Freestyle Chess Grand Slam Tour was over. Caruana had defeated Arjun Erigaisi to end in fifth place at the event, thus taking home $50,000 (approximately Rs 43 lakh).
On his podcast C Squared, Caruana was told by Christian Chirila: 'They deleted your interview, man.' To this, Caruana replied that the organisers had put it back up on the handle. 'I don't think they had any need to to remove it in the first place. But yeah, eventually they put it back up.'
Asked by Chirila if he was offended by the video being deleted, Caruana said: 'Not really, but you know, the thing is obviously they're not censoring me, right? I can speak pretty freely. I don't think their intention was to (do that). I just don't don't know why they decided to delete it. I guess to have time to discuss what to do, but you know, it usually doesn't work very well to do that. If you try to hide something, usually it tends to come out in a more…
Caruana continued: 'I had some complaints which I'm sure they'll work on in the future to to do better. I don't think it really made sense to not say anything because they're going to have more events. I'm probably going to play more of their events. So, why should I not let them know that there's an issue?'
But what were the complaints in Caruana's interview that the organisers deleted and then restored it?
Caruana was unhappy with the fact that the spectators who were going to be in the playing hall would have access to live commentary with a few seconds delay and that they could also know via the eval bar what each player's standing was in the game happening in front of them.
'The match (against Hikaru Nakamura which he lost), I did like start to just get very annoyed at the whole tournament. I mean, it's fine to play the super long days, but I don't think it should come down to basically like outside interference. Not to make excuses, but I mean, the spectators are basically just yelling when we have five seconds each. Hikaru was was crushing me and then, you know, he probably had some mate, but it wasn't easy. He had 5 seconds. He went back with the queen. I was back in the game. And around this moment there was just like yelling. I mean like very (loud yelling). I'm not exaggerating at all. It was just screaming in the audience and you can't
play with five seconds. So we both blundered. I could basically have mated him and also won his queen on two different occasions. It just leaves a bad taste,' Caruana had told the media team of Freestyle Chess after the tournament ended.
Caruana said that he only found out during the players' meeting before the tournament started that audiences would have access to evaluation bar. The evaluation bar is an indicator of the match situation.
'I thought there would be some perhaps whispers that we would hear. But it was much more than that. They were just yelling and we could hear that even through headphone, even through noise-cancelling headphones and like very audibly. It wasn't some noise in the background like it was very audible,' Caruana had said.

Farah Khan's cook became an internet sensation after he debuted with her vlog in 2023. Over the years, he met with several celebrities. He even signed brands like Myntra and Vim, where he shared the screen with actor Shah Rukh Khan and his boss Farah Khan. Now, Dilip has become the first one in his entire 'khandaan' to get a passport and visit a foreign country. In their latest vlog, Farah gave a glimpse of their trip to Maldives, where they celebrated Eid and also learnt to cook a local chicken dish. The vlog started with Dilip driving to the post office to collect his passport. Upon returning home, a thrilled Dilip jumps to touch Farah Khan's feet. With a wide smile, he says, 'Ma'am mera passport aagaya. Mere pure khandaan mein kisi ke paas passport nahi hai. (Ma'am I received my passport. I am the first person in my family to have one.)' Farah jokes, 'You are behaving as if you welcomed a child in your family.' She adds, 'Bhai, tu toh Raja Babu hogaya.' Soon they head to the airport where paps click him. They ask, 'Dilip bhai, kaisa lag raha hai? (Dilip, how are you feeling?)' He replies, 'Acha lag raha hai (I am feeling great).' Before boarding the flight, Dilip shops at the mall in airport. He buys expensive sunglasses, perfumes, and a neck pillow. While he shops, Farah Khan steals his passport with the security holding him back, saying: 'Aap andar nahi jaa sakte bina passport ke (You can proceed forward without a passport).' After a fun banter, they finally arrive at the Maldives, where Dilip surprises Farah by introducing her to his newly hired manager. He says, 'Maine manager rakha hai ma'am (I have hired a manager).' Dilip's manager Yashovardhan organises the best stay and water activities for Dilip sparking another fun conversation between the filmmaker and her manager Kalp. They soon head to their water villa, where they receive a traditional welcome. Their first day in the island includes fun water activities followed by a relaxing spa session. On their day 2, they head to Maafushi island in Maldives where they meet the locals and click pictures with them. Many even recognise Dilip from Farah's vlogs and click pictures with them. The duo then celebrates Eid wearing Maldives' local attire Libaas and Mundu, respectively. Their international trip prompted several responses from their viewers on YouTube. A user commented, 'This is so adorable! The way you treat Dilip ji with so much love and do not discriminate at all is just heart touching it truly depicts how good hearted and emotional person you are ma'am.' Another comment read, 'The banters between Farah ma'am and Dilip sir were already a highlight but these managers have put chaar chaand in the series… Also, Dilip sirs manager is so handsome.' Several others called Farah 'kind' and Dilip 'lucky.' The cook was recently in the news when he revealed he has constructed a three storey building in his hometown with a private pool. He has also shifted his children into an English medium school for better education.

Sitaare Zameen Par Star Aamir Khan On Why The Big Screen Belongs To The Youth: "Life Gets Busy With..."

Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan has opened up about the evolving relationship between cinema halls and streaming. Reacting to how viewers often say, "We'll just watch it on YouTube for Rs 100. Why go to theatres?", the Sitaare Zameen Par actor emphasised the irreplaceable magic of the big screen. "Theatre-going audiences are mostly between 12 and 24 years old. They are primarily called theatre-going audiences who go to theatres regularly. After that, life gets busy with jobs and your responsibilities keep increasing. "But this younger generation forms the core of the theatre crowd. The experience of watching a film in a theatre is something else entirely. You can never replicate that. So a person who wants to watch the film in theatres will watch it in theatres only," Aamir Khan said at an event on Tuesday where he announced that Sitaare Zameen Par will be available on his YouTube Channel, Aamir Khan Talkies. Based on a pay-per-watch model, one will have to pay Rs 100 to watch the film, which released in theatres on June 20, 2025, on Aamir Khan Talkies. At the event, the 60-year-old actor-producer acknowledged that India still lacks enough screens to give theatrical films the kind of wide access they deserve. "How will you reach them, and when? We have to find some medium," he said. Sitaare Zameen Par 's hybrid strategy aims to bridge the gap between the immersive theatre experience and the convenience of streaming without undercutting either. By blending both platforms, Aamir Khan seems to be saying: you don't have to choose between big screen magic and digital access, you can have both, just in the right order.
