Concert set to bring P Ramlee's timeless classics to life
PETALING JAYA : Few can compare to P Ramlee, the legendary actor, singer, composer and film director who left an indelible mark on the Malaysian entertainment industry before his untimely passing at only 44 years old.
Over 50 years later, the great man's legacy continues to live on in the hearts of many. Now, fans can look forward to celebrating his life and works at 'Konsert Legasi P Ramlee', scheduled to take place at Mega Star Arena Kuala Lumpur in September.
The concert will fuse classic, contemporary and pop elements to reignite the spirit and charm of the golden age of Malay music, while allowing the younger generation to rediscover one of Malaysia's most beloved cultural icons.
Fans old and new can look forward to over 30 songs from P Ramlee's repertoire, reinterpreted through a mix of medleys, duets and solo performances. While some songs will retain their original arrangements, others will be given a modern spin.
The line-up of performers includes Jamal Abdillah, Zainalabidin, Ella, Mimi Fly, Nadeera and Liza Hanim. Plus, don't miss special appearances by three popular P Ramlee tribute performers – P Radhi, Danie Hasbullah and Musly Ramlee.
Ramli MS, Mokhzani Ismail, Helen Yap and Michael Veerapen will take turns conducting a 60-piece orchestra.

Presented by TanahAir Films and 360 Entertainment, the concert is the second phase of 'Projek Perdana P Ramlee', a multi-platform initiative to honour the talent and legacy of P Ramlee and his contemporaries.
The project began last September with the launch of the Legasi Podcast.
According to event artistic director Adlin Aman Ramlie, a second concert date will be added if tickets for the first day sell out. He also revealed that there are plans to hold an annual concert over the next five years – great news for fans, indeed!
'This concert is more than just entertainment,' TanahAir Films CEO Khairul Anwar Salleh added. 'It is a bridge between generations, a revival of timeless artistic values and a heartfelt tribute to one of the greatest cultural figures in our nation's history.

Borneo.TV draws more concern from Sabah creatives
Published on: Thursday, July 03, 2025 Published on: Thu, Jul 03, 2025 Text Size: KOTA KINABALU: Several indigenous cultural advocates and Sabah-based creatives have echoed Sabah Film and Visual Association's (Safva) concerns over the launch of The new digital streaming platform was launched on Tuesday by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, through a deal between the SMJ Secretariat and Kuala Lumpur-based IB Media Consultant Sdn Bhd. Advertisement Indigenous artist-activist Atama Katama ( pic ), on Thursday, criticised the move as another example of cultural exploitation without consultation with local stakeholders. He claimed that the initiative failed to uphold the principles of Unesco's 2005 Convention on Cultural Diversity and the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Atama, who serves as a UN Indigenous Peoples Rights Representative, also warned of the misuse of the term 'Borneo' by outsiders. He also called out the platform's ownership by non-Bornean Datuk Izlan Basar, as culturally insensitive and inappropriate. Sabahan national artist Yee I-Lan echoed these sentiments, describing the initiative as a form of 'neo-colonialism' in a public Facebook post. Safva president Chester Pang had previously said local creatives were not consulted and urged greater transparency on policies and selection criteria. He welcomed the idea of a Sabah streaming platform but stressed the importance of involving homegrown talent and institutions. Atama and Safva have called for state intervention, formal consultation mechanisms, and a review of the agreement. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
