Former Charlton Athletic ace Barton named Saltdean United head coach
The Tigers announced news of their appointment via a post on their official club X account this evening.

Barton takes her first step into coaching after recently announcing her departure from Barclays WSL2 club Charlton Athletic. The 37-year-old Welsh international spent two seasons with The Addicks after joining the club from Brighton & Hove Albion in summer 2023.
Barton holds a UEFA A coaching licence and she looks to be the perfect appointment for a Saltdean United side that are hoping to go far in the coming years.
After her appointment was announced, Barton said 'I'm really excited to begin my role with Saltdean Women FC as the Head Coach. I believe we have a talented group of players and together we can achieve something special this season. I am looking forward to
kicking off the season.'
Barton is one of five first team players to leave Charlton Athletic during the close season. Francesca Stables, Katie Godden, Sophie O'Rourke and Melisa Filis are also moving on at the end of their current contracts at The Valley.

Charlton Athletic have completed the signing of defender Lucia Lobato. The Addicks announced the news via a post on their official club website this morning. Lobato moves to South East London after helping French club Olympique de Marseille to the Seconde Ligue title last season. OM beat RC Lens to the silverware courtesy of their superior head-to-head record. The defender has also turned out for Irish club Galway and Portuguese side Racing Power FC in the senior game to date. As part of her development, Lobato spent a period in the United States combining football with her studies at the University of Louisiana at Monroe. She featured for the ULM Warhawks in her time Stateside. The player is now ready to test herself at the next level in the English professional game with Charlton Athletic. After signing for The Addicks, Lobato said 'I would say the WSL2 will be the strongest league I've played in, so I'm excited for that step up. Marseille was a techy and powerful environment, so that was a great experience. 'I want to stay consistent week in and week out, get game time and hopefully help the club achieve its collective goals.' Lobato is Charlton Athletic's first signing of the summer transfer window.

Now he's got his mind on using some of that money to become the latest American celebrity to invest in an English Football League team. On Thursday, Welsh club Swansea City announced that the hip-hop legend, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, is joining its ownership group. It was not disclosed what percentage of the club is now owned by Snoop Dogg or how much he invested in the team. The announcement came days after the 'Gin & Juice' rapper helped reveal Swansea City's uniforms for the upcoming season by posing in the new home jersey in a video posted to Instagram. 'My love of football is well known, but it feels special to me that I make my move into club ownership with Swansea City,' Snoop Dogg said in a statement released Thursday by Swansea City. 'The story of the club and the area really struck a chord with me. This is a proud, working class city and club. An underdog that bites back, just like me. 'I'm proud to be part of Swansea City. I am going to do all I can to help the club.' Swansea City plays in the EFL Championship, the league's second tier, which means Snoop Dogg's team will be competing against the likes of Wrexham, which was famously purchased in 2020 by actors Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds), and Birmingham City, which boasts NFL legend Tom Brady as a minority owner.
