Motorcyclist sustains neck injury from stray kite string [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: A motorcyclist sustained neck injuries after riding into a stray kite string that had been stretched across the road and became entangled around a streetlight on Jalan Lingkaran Tengah 2. The kite string is believed to have been originated from Taman Metropolitan Kepong, which is a popular kite flying area. A circulating video on WhatsApp and Facebook shows a neck injury — a raw line of broken skin. "I was lucky that my neck was covered with a piece of cloth," he said adding that his shirt and bag were also ripped in the incident. "I want the authorities to take action. Thank you," the victim said in the video. The police have been asked to comment. Social media users voiced concern about the suitability of kite flying in city areas near roads. "Cities are unsuitable for flying kites, especially near roads. It's fun to see kids play and clap when the kite flies high," said user Chepuan Hanim. "It's dangerous. The other day I hit a kite that had detached from its string after being struck by the car ahead of me — a loud noise followed. It turned out the kite stick had hit the underside of the car before landing on the road," wrote Azimah Abdul Mutalib.

Published on: Monday, July 21, 2025 Published on: Mon, Jul 21, 2025 Text Size: KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested a businessman with the title 'Datuk' for allegedly deceiving a man into paying about RM6,000 in return for help securing a state award from Pahang. The man, in his 40s, was detained around Monday noon when he came to the Sabah MACC office to give a statement. Advertisement Initial investigations found the suspect had, in 2023, offered to help the victim obtain a Datukship title despite having no authority to do so. He had allegedly persuaded the victim to transfer the money as payment for ceremonial attire accessories linked to the award. Sabah MACC director Datuk S. Karunanithy confirmed the arrest, adding that the suspect was released after posting RM5,000 of a RM10,000 bail and will be charged at the Kota Kinabalu Special Corruption Court this Thursday under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
