Happy Egyptian Woman's Day
Egyptian woman's day comes on 16 March, a date that was set to commemorate the first female demonstration ever in Egypt, when women left their homes and took to the streets to support the 1919 nationalist Revolution.
Led by the founders of the feminist movement in Egypt, Hoda Shaarawi; and Safiya Zaghloul, wife of Egypt's national leader Saad Zaghloul, some 300 Egyptian women took part in a national demonstration against the British occupation of Egypt; the young female demonstrator Hameida Khalil lost her life.
Given that those were days when women were, and had for long centuries been confined to their homes, never allowed in public, the event was in itself revolutionary. It heralded in a new age for women when they could honourably be in the public eye, building their country hand in hand with their fellowmen, and maturing into citizens with full citizenship rights—and duties.
Today, women are being actively empowered by the Egyptian State.

US embassy honours 35 Egyptian students selected for youth exchange programme
The US embassy in Cairo has honoured 35 Egyptian high school students chosen for the 2025-2026 Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (KL-YES) programme. US Ambassador Herro Mustafa Garg hosted a reception to celebrate 35 outstanding Egyptian high school students, who were chosen to participate in the KL-YES programme for the academic year 2025-2026. KL-YES is a flagship US Department of State programme awarding full scholarships for Egyptian high school students to spend a full academic year in the United States. The programme's participants live with American host families, attend US high schools, and engage in community service and cultural exchange activities, helping promote mutual understanding between Egypt and the United States. Since 2003, nearly 900 Egyptian students have participated in KL-YES. During the celebration, Ambassador Garg stated that hundreds of Egyptian students have travelled to the United States over the past 22 years and experienced the best aspects of American life. "They have been embraced by American host families with open arms, enjoyed American music and movies, and experienced the breadth of American cuisine,' he said. The ambassador affirmed that these types of exchange programmes are one of the many ways the embassy works to strengthen the ties between the two countries. This year's reception brought together KL-YES participants and their parents, US diplomats, KL-YES alumni, and representatives from Newton Education Services, Qalaa Holdings, and AFS Egypt, the programme's implementing partner for over two decades. Ministry of Education opens applications for trainee teachers at Egyptian-Japanese Schools - Society
The Ministry of Education has begun accepting applications for the role of Trainee Teacher at Egyptian-Japanese Schools (EJS), marking the first time the position has been offered. The post is available for a period of one to two academic years. Applicants aged 21 to 23 can apply through a dedicated online portal for 15 days. Candidates will be evaluated based on specific criteria, including motivation for teaching and creative potential in educational settings. According to a ministry statement, selected trainees will receive intensive technical and personal assessments to identify the most qualified and prepared individuals. Successful candidates will undergo practical training and receive continuous academic and technical support to enhance their professional capabilities and adopt modern teaching methodologies in an interactive learning environment. The initiative introduces a new pathway for recent graduates to gain real-world classroom experience while being immersed in an advanced educational model aligned with international standards for teacher preparation. The Ministry described the move as a significant addition to its teacher qualification system and a reflection of the EJS model's commitment to nurturing educators with both academic and pedagogical competence. Egyptian-Japanese Schools follow the Japanese Tokkatsu philosophy, which emphasizes holistic student development, cooperation, discipline, and responsibility through daily integrated educational activities. In May, the Ministry announced that 11 new EJS schools will open for the 2025/2026 academic year, raising the total to 69 across the country. The EJS initiative was launched in 2016 following President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi's visit to Japan, which led to a strategic partnership with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to support the development of 100 schools with Japanese expertise and funding.
