One dead, more missing after migrant shipwreck off Italy's Lampedusa
ROME, June 30 (Reuters) - One woman died, two people were feared missing and 87 were rescued following a migrant shipwreck off the Italian island of Lampedusa, a U.N. migration agency official said on Monday. Lampedusa lies between Tunisia, Malta and the larger Italian island of Sicily and is the first port of call for many migrants seeking to reach the EU from North Africa, in what has become one of the world's deadliest sea crossings. The migrants, initially rescued by a Tunisian fishing boat and then picked up by the Italian coastguard, arrived in Lampedusa at around 4 a.m. (0200 GMT), International Organization for Migration (IOM) spokesperson Flavio Di Giacomo said. They had set off from Tunisia on a flimsy metal boat that disintegrated during navigation, he said, describing such vessels as "floating coffins". "We are trying to see if, apart from the body that was recovered, one or two people are missing. Probably there are two," he added. Another group of around 80 sea migrants, including children and two or three pregnant women, also landed in Lampedusa overnight after a "dramatic" crossing in very rough weather, Di Giacomo said. "They were lucky to make it, given the sea conditions they faced", he said, indicating that the group had left Libya on Friday on a rubber dinghy. More than 25,000 migrants have died or gone missing on the central Mediterranean route between North Africa and Italy since 2014, according to the IOM, including 1,810 last year and 542 in the year to date.

Grimsby ice rink to undergo £150k refurbishment
A community group that saved a 50-year-old ice rink from closure has raised £150,000 to fund a major revamp of the "tired" ice rink on Cromwell Road in Grimsby includes a full barrier replacement to keep it running for "years to come".Grimsby Ice Rink Community Group, which took over management of the site in 2017, secured the money through fundraising and Allan, one of the three voluntary directors, said the ice rink "wouldn't be able to continue working" without the upgrade. The revamp is due to start on 31 July and will take about a month. Refurbishment plans will also include installing a more economical chiller which freezes the ice, as well as general maintenance of the whole Allan said the sides around the ice rink were "starting to bow out" due to its age."Without replacing these barriers we cannot continue to work as an ice rink and wouldn't be able to play ice sports."It's the main infrastructure of the ice rink so we need to do this and the time is now." Air India Dreamliner returns to Hong Kong after technical issue
NEW DELHI — An Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner plane bound for New Delhi returned to its origin of Hong Kong shortly after takeoff on Monday as a precautionary measure following a suspected technical issue. Last week, an Air India flight to London, using the same type of Boeing aircraft, crashed in the western Indian city of Ahmedabad moments after takeoff, killing 241 of the 242 people on board. Air India said in a statement on Monday that flight AI315 returned to Hong Kong because of what it described as 'a technical issue' without giving details. It said the flight landed safely and was undergoing checks 'as a matter of abundant precaution.' According to recordings posted on air traffic control monitoring website and reviewed by Reuters, one of the pilots in the plane told air traffic controllers around 15 minutes after takeoff that 'for technical reasons, sir, we would like to stay closer to Hong Kong, maybe we will come back and land back into Hong Kong once we sort out the problem.' 'We don't want to continue further,' the pilot said, before returning. Air India did not respond to a Reuters request for comment on the recording. AI315 made a return to Hong Kong International Airport after requesting local standby at around 1 p.m. (0500 GMT) and 'landed safely at around 1:15 p.m.,' the spokesperson of Airport Authority Hong Kong said. The airport operations were not affected, the spokesperson added. Flight AI315 took off from Hong Kong at around 12:20 p.m., reached an altitude of 22,000 feet, and then started descending, according to flight tracking website AirNav Radar. The plane was seven years old.
