Land Rover's Defender Octa goes stealth with new Black specification
Applied to the V8-powered four-wheel-drive, the new Black specification brings a range of black-finished components for an undercover, stealthy look. All cars are finished in Narvik Black as standard, while an optional matte protective film can be applied as an option.
You'll find satin black paint on areas such as the front undershield and rear scuff plates, too, while the Land Rover badge on the grille is black with a darkened silver script. There's also the choice of either 20-inch forged or 22-inch gloss black wheels with black centre caps.
Inside, you'll find ebony leather applied throughout with perforation patterns applied to the seats. The main dashboard section is finished in a satin black powder coat, too, while buyers can also add a chopped carbon fibre finish as an extra. All cars get a 13.1-inch infotainment system as standard, too, which incorporates smartphone mirroring as well.

As with all Defender Octa models, the Black gets a 4.4-litre turbocharged V8 engine as well as Land Rover's 6D suspension system which can help the car to maintain a level footing no matter what conditions it is driving through.

Car import quotas, export credits on table for EU-US trade talks, sources say
By Christoph Steitz, Julia Payne and David Lawder FRANKFURT/BRUSSELS/WASHINGTON (Reuters) -Brussels is discussing with U.S. counterparts a range of measures aimed at protecting the European Union's auto industry from steep U.S. import duties, including tariff cuts, import quotas and credits against the value of EU automakers' U.S. exports, industry sources and trade officials say. The talks are part of efforts by the European Commission, the bloc's executive branch, to reach a trade agreement outline with the United States in the coming days, ahead of the August 1 deadline set by U.S. President Donald Trump for broad tariff increases. Trump said on Tuesday he would "probably" tell the EU within two days what rate it could expect for its exports to the U.S., adding that the 27-nation bloc had become much more cooperative. EU negotiators have sought relief from tariffs in key sectors such as autos and aerospace. One EU diplomat previously said cars were a "red line" for the bloc, making a U.S. concession on cars a caveat of any deal. Since April, EU carmakers have incurred a 25% U.S. import tariff on top of the 2.5% already in place. The levy is separate from Trump's prior threatened 20% "reciprocal" tariff announced in April but dialed back to 10%. Discussions are ongoing and it is unclear if the U.S. administration will agree to all terms from its biggest bilateral trading partner, the sources said. The White House, the U.S. Trade Representative's Office and the Commerce Department did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the U.S.-EU negotiations. The European Commission also had no immediate comment for this story. EU trade chief Maros Sefcovic said on Wednesday the Commission has made good progress on a framework trade agreement with the United States and a deal may be possible in the coming days. The sources - two European industry sources, three European officials and three U.S. industry sources familiar with the talks - declined to be identified because the talks are confidential. EXPORT CREDITS A U.S. source and one European official said things are moving "fast" in the negotiations. On the table is a proposal that would provide some relief from import tariffs for carmakers that produce vehicles in the United States and export them to other countries, three of the sources said. Under that plan, carmakers that export vehicles from the U.S. would get credits for that export value, which could then be applied against the value of any imports from the EU into the U.S., the U.S. source said. That would allow companies to import that value of vehicle duty-free or at a reduced rate, while anything above it would be subject to the maximum tariff. Such a mechanism would benefit carmakers BMW and Mercedes-Benz, which both have major production hubs in the United States for sport-utility vehicles, with a significant share of their output exported. Two sources said the U.S. had offered some relief if a company agrees to make additional investment, a mechanism that would help Volkswagen, which barely exports out of U.S. plants but is weighing a local factory for its Audi brand. The terms are a delicate balancing act for Brussels as it tries to find concessions that are acceptable to carmakers such as BMW, Porsche, Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz, as well as to the Trump administration, which wants to boost U.S. manufacturing and create jobs. TARIFF RATES, QUOTAS DISCUSSED Europe shipped nearly 758,000 cars worth 38.9 billion euros ($45.57 billion) to the U.S. in 2024, more than four times as many as in the other direction, according to data from European auto association ACEA. Two of the sources said the framework may be similar to the one agreed with Britain in May. In that deal, the U.S. cut tariffs on British-made cars to 10% and British carmakers received a import quota of 100,000 cars a year at the lower tariff rate, almost the total Britain exported last year. While the EU had proposed a similar tariff-rate quota with a certain number of vehicles imported, two U.S. industry sources said the Trump administration was leaning against this. Three sources said both sides have discussed cutting their respective auto import tariffs from current levels - 27.5% for imports into the U.S., and 10% for imports into the EU. Non-tariff elements such as standardising regulation, for example in the area of auto safety tests, are also being offered by the EU, one of the people said. Range Rover Has a Funky New Secondary Logo and a Pattern to Match
Jaguar , now JLR, has a funky new logo for Range Rover to help distinguish the brand as part of JLR's recent House of Brands strategy. The new logo features stacked and mirrored Rs, with the brand also showing a new checker pattern built up of Range Rover Rs in interlocking circles. Don't be alarmed, as the brand told it won't replace the script logo found on the front and rear of every model. JLR is sporting a new logo for its Range Rover brand, now that it can't exist as a sub-brand under Land Rover. Autocar broke the news, spotting the logo in a recent JLR investor presentation. The new logo features a set of stacked and mirrored Rs in the brand's typical script. Jaguar previously revealed its new minimalist set of logos, including a typeface that mixes uppercase and lowercase letters, but we're still waiting for dedicated rebrands for the Discovery and Defender SUVs. The brand also revealed what it is calling the "Range Rover Pattern," which is effectively a new checker pattern of interlocking and rotated Range Rover Rs. The automaker hasn't announced how it plans to use the new pattern, but we wouldn't be surprised to find it in future Range Rover front ends, or as part of the upholstery of future models. The new logo and motif aren't intended to replace the "Range Rover" script badging on the front and rear of every model. "The Range Rover Motif has been developed as a smaller symbol for where our familiar Range Rover device mark does not fit, such as on a label or as part of a repeating pattern, and within event spaces where an emblem is more appropriate," a JLR spokesperson confirmed to Car and Driver. Everything Coming to the 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed
It's that time of year again—the Goodwood Festival of Speed kicks off this week. The annual automotive event, which sees hundreds of vehicles take on the 1.17-mile hillclimb course, returns to the iconic Goodwood House in West Sussex for its 32nd consecutive year. This year looks like it'll be another doozy. Dozens of automakers plan to debut new vehicles on the show lawn, while a handful of others hope to break records at the hillclimb event over the long weekend. We'll be there to see it all in person. In the meantime, here's a quick list of every new car you'll be able to see when Goodwood opens its doors beginning on Thursday, July 10. BMW Vision Driving Experience Concept Photo by: BMW Following its debut at the Shanghai Auto Show, BMW will run its Vision Driving Experience up the hill at Goodwood this weekend. While there are no plans to put this car into production, it serves as a clear picture of how the upcoming 'Neue Klasse' 3 Series will look when it hits the road next year. Funky fascia and widebody aside, the most interesting part of the Vision Driving Experience is what BMW calls the 'Heart of Joy,' a centralized computer system responsible for controlling the car's dynamic functions like braking, charging, battery regeneration, and steering. Dash SlipStream Photo by: Dash Bespoke Dash, a UK-based racing company that's been around since the mid-2000s, just launched a new spinoff focused on road-going sports cars . But instead of debuting just one vehicle, this company will build you your own supercar, essentially from the ground up. And instead of charging millions for a bespoke chassis, the company will base its new creations on its carbon fiber monocoque architecture, codenamed TR01. The TR01 works with anything from batteries to a naturally aspirated V-8 with a manual transmission. It uses a mid-engine layout paired with a double-wishbone suspension with inboard springs and dampers. The first car to be based on the TR01, the SlipStream, will show its face at Goodwood. Honda Civic Type R Ultimate Photo by: Honda Honda killed the Civic Type R in Europe due to stricter emissions regulations, but the hot hatch gets a proper sendoff with the Type R Ultimate Edition . It gets a host of cosmetic mods, including a carbon fiber wing, a black roof, and some red stripes on the hood and doors. Inside, you'll find even more carbon fiber trim, along with red floor mats. Things are untouched under the hood, though we're not complaining. The turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four produces a healthy 324 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque, sending power to the front wheels via one of the best six-speed manuals on sale today. Honda hasn't said how many Ultimate Editions will be built, though we suspect it won't be many. Honda Super EV Photo by: Honda A special Type R isn't the only thing Honda's bringing to Goodwood this year. The automaker will also debut a new concept called the Super EV . It's a tiny, A-segment hatchback that could be a successor to Honda's much-loved E hatchback sold in Europe. Details on the Super EV are slim, though judging by its license plates and full-sized side mirrors, it looks fairly production-ready. There are significant fender flares and a big, wide bumper hiding under that camouflage, suggesting some sportiness. To us, the Super EV looks most closely related to the Honda N-One, a similarly sized hatchback currently sold in Japan. So it's possible this car could be its replacement. Hyundai Ioniq 6 N Photo by: Hyundai The Hyundai Ioniq 6 N is one of the most highly anticipated EVs of 2025. And since it was teased way back in 2022, it's also long overdue. Teasers and spy photos suggest widebody fenders, a more aggressive fascia, and a big wing out back for better aerodynamics. Hyundai has yet to reveal specs, though we expect the Ioniq 6 N to share a drivetrain with its crossover sibling, the Ioniq 5 N. That means up to 641 horsepower and 545 pound-feet of torque from two electric motors—one at the front, and another at the rear. The 6's smaller size means it should be lighter, equating to a 0-60 time in the low three-second range. Land Rover Range Rover Sport SV Black Edition Photo by: Land Rover Blacked-out trim is an ever-growing trend in the industry, and Land Rover is taking full advantage with its latest model, the Range Rover Sport SV Black. As the name suggests, virtually every surface, inside and out, is covered in black trim, from the 23-inch alloy wheels to the gigantic brake calipers. The leather, the logos, and even the lug nuts are blacked out. Thankfully, nothing changes under the hood. Like the regular RR Sport SV , the Black gets a BMW-sourced twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8 with mild hybrid assistance, pushing out a total of 626 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque. That's enough for a 0-62 time of just 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 180 miles per hour. Lanzante 95-59 Photo by: Lanzante Bespoke UK carmaker Lanzante has a lot of history with the McLaren F1. It was the team that fielded an F1 GTR at the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans, taking overall victory. Now, to pay tribute to that victory, it's building an F1-inspired supercar of its own. The car, codenamed Project 95-59 , will be based on a McLaren and utilize a three-seat configuration. Though Lanzante hasn't confirmed it, we suspect that means it'll be based on the Speedtail, McLaren's only modern three-seater. The company says the car will target a 700-horsepower-per-ton power-to-weight ratio, but stopped short of revealing what sort of powertrain we should expect. If we had to guess, it'll likely be a modified version of the Speedtail's twin-turbo V-8.
