British Open: Rory McIlroy produces the most bizarre shot of his life at Royal Portrush
Here's another look:
The second ball was apparently embedded in the ground a few inches ahead of McIlroy's ball, and popped into the air as McIlroy's shot flew greenward.
'That is one of the most weird, ridiculous things I've ever seen," McIlroy said of the shot after his round, where he finished at 8-under. "So strange.'
McIlroy tossed the extra ball aside. For the record, it was a Titleist 4, and it ended up in the hands of a lucky fan:
Alas, because McIlroy didn't replace the ball in its original spot, the R&A hit Shane Lowry with a two-shot penalty. (Kidding. Maybe.)
McIlroy would go on to bogey the hole.
After a hot three-birdies-in-four-holes start, McIlroy cooled off slightly, parring the next six holes before the weirdest bogey at 11.
He did, however, follow that up with a monster putt for eagle at No. 12 to move closer to the top of the leaderboard.

Scottie Scheffler clears the air on British Open fart-gate
The Scottie Scheffler fart-gate took a brand new twist. On the 17th hole at the British Open last Thursday, when Scheffler was chipping to the green, the broadcast feed picked up someone passing gas. While some thought a fan was the culprit, Scheffler completely changed the narrative this week. Advertisement Scheffler was featured on Barstool Sports' 'Pardon My Take' podcast and shed light on who is really to blame for the incident — himself. 'Yeah, that was me,' Scheffler admitted on the show. 'Oh yeah, that was me. 'You're out there for like six hours, you're eating some different food over there. Some stuff is going to happen. I'm definitely surprised it hasn't happened more in the past picking up stuff like that. I literally didn't think anything about it then after we got inside, Xander [Schauffele] was showing me the video. He pulls up the video and I see myself standing on 17, and I'm like, 'Oh, I know what this is.'' Advertisement Now that the truth is out, the gas might've helped fuel his shot as Scheffler almost chipped it straight into the hole. Scheffler finished Thursday 3-under par and continued to ride high into the weekend before he ran away with the British Open crown, his first time winning that major. 4 Scottie Scheffler teeing off from the 16th hole at the British Open. 'It was a tough week; I battled hard all weekend. Today, once again, was a battle, but [I] played some really good golf. Padraig Harrington plays bogey-free at Sunningdale and builds 1-shot lead in Senior British Open
BERKSHIRE, England (AP) — Padraig Harrington birdied his last hole Friday for a 5-under 65, giving him a one-shot lead in the Senior British Open as he goes for his second senior major title of the year. Defending champion K.J. Choi had the lead late in the second round on the Old Course at Sunningdale until he took bogeys on the 16 and 17th. Choi had to settle for a 67 and was one shot behind along with Thomas Bjorn, who had a 63. Harrington is trying to become the fifth player to win the British Open and the Senior British Open. 'Where I should make a score I scored, and then I got in trouble on plenty of other holes,' Harrington said. 'Hit some recovery shots and managed my game, but I never showed much confidence out there at all in my swing at all. I obviously like these 72-hole ones, and the bigger golf courses suit me.' The Senior British Open is the fifth major on the PGA Tour Champions. The regular tournaments are 54 holes. Harrington won the U.S. Senior Open at The Broadmoor in Colorado. Bjorn was an angry Dane on Friday and it worked in his favor. He was furious with himself for ruining a good start in the opening round with three bogeys over the last four holes. He channeled that frustration into four birdies in five holes at the start. He made eagle on the 320-yard 11th. And after dropping shots on the 16th and 17th holes, he finished with a birdie. 'Just got out here in that mode of I know I played well yesterday and I was hitting the ball well. I knew I was playing well, but I was just angry,' Bjorn said. 'Wanted to get off to a start and hit a great shot on 2, which it's not like a given birdie, and then I hit some good shots from there. 'The first 12 holes was just an absolute joy.' Among those two shots behind were Ernie Els and Justin Leonard, who made the cut in the British Open last week at Royal Portrush. ___ AP golf:

Liverpool forward agrees sensational move
A Liverpool forward has agreed a sensational move and rejected the club's new contract offer in the process. At this moment in time, Arne Slot's side are bracing themselves for the loss of several attackers. Darwin Nunez and Federico Chiesa are all but certain to depart for pastures new. LFC Kits Shop Now LFC x New Era Shop Now LFC Signed Merch Shop Now LFC x Titleist Shop Now Meanwhile, Luis Diaz's move to Bayern Munich seems to get closer and closer by the day. With three forwards out, it's understandable why Richard Hughes wants to bring in Alexander Isak, on top of having already secured the future of Hugo Ekitike. With Isak and Ekitike, Liverpool will have a formidable forward line. You'll still have Cody Gakpo, Florian Wirtz and Mohamed Salah to make up the 'fantastic five' in attack. Not to mention young Rio Ngumoha and potentially Jayden Danns also giving Slot's side options in the rotation. In another world, Ranel Young could have also been part of that conversation. Last season, the 19-year-old regularly trained with Slot's first team. He even made the first team squad on two separate occasions. First against Brighton in the EFL Cup, where Young sat on the bench. Then later against Plymouth in the FA Cup, where again Young was not able to get on the pitch. Those experiences should have pointed towards hope of a breakthrough for the youngster. Despite his contract expiring at the end of the season, Liverpool confirmed that they had made an offer to him and a number of other players. But Young has rejected that offer and he has now agreed a sensational move elsewhere. Remarkably, Young has gone from Liverpool to FK Usce. Yes, you heard that right, the Reds youngster has moved to Usce. This has been confirmed on the club's official Instagram page. Who are they? Last season they were competing in Serbia's third division and earned promotion to the Prva Liga, which is the second division of Serbia. That's where they will be competing this season, and they will be hoping Young will give them enough firepower to stay up and potentially even earn back to back promotions. It's a very rogue move for the Liverpool youngster. At the same time though, it's an opportunity to venture abroad and play regular first team minutes. At 19-years-old, that's what you will want to be doing and Young can now use this opportunity to build his career. A successful season in the Prva Liga can become a springboard to a much higher level. **👉 **Liverpool set to increase transfer budget by £200m 🔗
