Camp Fire in Lincoln County now 70% contained
EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – Fire crews continue efforts to battle a brush fire burning near Fort Stanton in Lincoln County, New Mexico, which is now at 877 acres with 70 percent containment, the New Mexico State Forestry Division announced on Wednesday, May 28.
The Camp Fire ignited on Sunday, May 25, but the cause has not been determined.
Fort Stanton is about 30 miles northeast of Ruidoso.
The Forestry Division said containment continues to increase as crews make progress on securing the fire line.
The fire has not spread for several days. However, after more accurate GIS mapping the total burned acres is now 877, the Forestry Division said.
The Forestry Division said crews continue to identify and put out areas of the fire that are smoldering.
Fort Stanton Historical Site personnel have begun assessments of the damaged areas. Two wooden buildings in the internment camp area of the site were completely burned, the Forestry Division said.
The Forestry Division said a third building, a gymnasium built in the 1940s, was also affected. The roof of the gymnasium, which had collapsed previously in the 1990s, was consumed by the fire. However, the walls, which are made of adobe and concrete, are still standing. The fire did not affect the main grounds of the site.

The BLM Roswell District, Lincoln County, and the NM Forestry Division are all under fire restrictions or a burn ban. Campfires of any kind (wood, charcoal, wood stoves), chainsaw use, smoking outdoors, operating motorized vehicles off designated roads, and outdoor welding are all prohibited.

Several wildfires in western Colorado shut down westbound Interstate 70; Pre-evacuations in Garfield County
Wildfires across western Colorado are causing significant impacts to travel along Interstate 70. Those fires were reported in Garfield, Eagle, and Moffat Counties, and pre-evacuation orders are in place in Garfield County. And just before 2 p.m., a fire was reported on Highway 40 near milepost 25 in Moffat County near the town of Dinosaur, just east of the Colorado-Utah state line. Aretesia Fire, Moffat County Sheriff's Office, and the Bureau of Land Management were responding to that fire. People are being asked to avoid the areas of all these fires and should expect a large police and fire rescue presence.

The Bureau of Land Management has alerted the public that 'aggressive mountain goats' haven't given a warm welcome to people riding their boats on the Grande Ronde River between Meadow Creek and Alder Creek. Gila National Forest closes part of its land due to Trout Fire
EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Gila National Forest has issued a public safety closure order for part of its land and recreation sites threatened by the Trout Fire that is burning north of Silver City. The closure area is south and west of New Mexico Highway 35, north of Allie Canyon Trail, Continental Divide National Scenic Trail, Signal Peak Trail, and Tadpole Ridge Trail, and east of Sheep Corral Canyon Trail and Forest Road 4083V in the Sheep Corral area, the Gila National Forest said. The fire was estimated to be 2,170 acres at 0 percent containment as of Friday morning, June 13. Trout Fire burning north of Silver City at 2K acres, 0% containment All National Forest system lands within the closure area are closed to public entry, including developed recreation sites along New Mexico Highway 35 including Allie Canyon Trailhead, Sapillo Continental Divide National Scenic Trail Trailhead, Railroad Canyon Trailhead, Pictograph Canyon Trailhead, Purgatory Chasm Trailhead, Sapillo Group Campground, Mesa Campground, Upper End Campground, Lake Roberts Day Use Area, Lake Roberts Picnic Area, Vista Ruins Picnic Area, and the Lake Roberts Recreation Area. Additionally, Grant County Sheriff's Office issued a 'Go' evacuation order for private properties along the western end of New Mexico Highway 35, from Sapillo Campground west to the Highway 15/35 intersection, on both sides of the highway.
