Ajax hierarchy left divided over Chelsea's £35m transfer bid for Jorrel Hato
Chelsea have already agreed personal terms with the 19-year-old Netherlands international – but they are yet to strike a deal with Ajax.
The Eredivisie side were originally hoping to receive around €55m to €60m (£47.5m to £52m) for Hato.
But there is now a 'split' at Ajax, De Telegraaf have reported, with some figures at the club feeling that they may be forced to accept a smaller fee.
Ajax are thought to be in a 'bleak financial situation' and certain members of the hierarchy believe they cannot risk Chelsea calling off the deal.

They are also aware of Hato's desire to join the west London side and know the club need the funds from his sale to strengthen their own squad.
Ajax, said to be in a 'difficult situation', are reported to be settling for a total package of between €43m-€45m (£37m-£39m) for Hato.
Hato reportedly asked to be left out of Ajax's squad to face Como 1907 in pre-season on Saturday.
The Dutch teenager has spent his entire senior career at Ajax to date, playing a total of 111 games for the club across all competitions.
But Hato, who also attracted interest from Arsenal in the summer transfer window, now appears destined for a move to Stamford Bridge.
Hato was crowned Eredivisie Talent of the Year last season and his expected arrival in west London is a significant boost for Chelsea.
'Jorrel Hato looks like a very attractive prospect and fits the profile,' Roberto Di Matteo told BetVictor, who offer the latest online casino games.
'He's physically very good, he's comfortable on the ball, he can play left back, centre back.
'I think even in the number six position in the midfield, he would make a lot of sense.'
Emmanuel Petit, meanwhile, told talkSPORTBET: 'He would fit the vision for Chelsea when it comes to splashing money on young players and trying to build, like PSG and Barcelona.
'Hato is playing for the Netherlands national team and can play in different positions, he would bring something more to Chelsea.'

Arsenal transfer news LIVE: Thomas Partey set for new club, Eze ‘keen' on move, huge ‘Rodrygo BLOW'
ARSENAL have had a huge summer of change so far - and there are more big deals still to be done! Thomas Partey is set to join Villarreal as a free agent, according to David Ornstein. Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze is reportedly keen on making the switch across London to the Emirates. Elsewhere, Liverpool are said to have made contact with Real Madrid's Rodrygo, in a blow to Arsenal's pursuit. 22 minutes ago By Jack Figg Keeping his head Down The emergence of Max Dowman has also been one of the surprises of the tour. The Hale End teenager's name was met wildly by fans whenever it was mentioned by the stadium announcers in Singapore and Hong Kong, a reception similar to Gyokeres. Arteta understands the clamour for him to now be involved next term, and appreciates he will have to take the noise from fans if he is not given his Prem debut sooner rather than later. SunSport understands the data Dowman produced for the youth teams last term matched that of several first-team stars, and that he has earned his chance to make the step up. Dowman's impressive performances off the bench against AC Milan, Newcastle and Tottenham have only reinforced this view, but Arteta will also wary of pushing him too much too soon. 37 minutes ago By Jack Figg Hav that Kai Havertz was brilliantly skinned by Cristian Romero during Arsenal's friendly defeat to Tottenham. The former England under-21 international, an Arsenal target at the start of the summer, played for Charlton and Everton and also had loan spells at Fulham and Leicester but has spent the last three seasons in Italy after joining from Leipzig. Lookman, 27, who scored a hat-trick in the 2024 Europa Cup final against Bayer Leverkusen, claims Atalanta promised he could join Inter for a certain price. Bellerin posted this on Instagram… Today, 13:20 By Jack Figg Striking the right deal Viktor Gyokeres was not the only striker considered in the window. SunSport understands the Gunners had a brief interest in signing Alexander Isak from Newcastle, but quickly moved on to other targets after learning of his £100m-plus valuation. Red Bull Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko was also a target, but Arsenal were put off by some of the parameters laid out in early negotiations and viewed it as too much of a gamble. In the end, Gyokeres ticked all the boxes. Arsenal's leadership team – including executive vice-chair Tim Lewis and managing director Richard Garlick – were in constant communication this summer. Following last season's issues, there has been an emphasis on recruiting players with good injury records, something they can no longer compromise on if they want to challenge on multiple fronts. A lot of their absences were out of their hands, however, such as defender Gabriel, who required surgery following a hamstring injury picked up after coming back from international duty with Brazil. Today, 13:00 By Jack Figg Gyok to sort it our two days before Gyokeres flew to Singapore – SunSport understands that senior officials were still desperately trying to iron out details surrounding the future add-ons owed to Sporting Lisbon. Gyokeres admitted to SunSport in Hong Kong that the past few weeks – the waiting, the uncertainty, the immense spotlight and media duties upon signing – had taken its toll on him, and understandably was not rushed into action by Arteta, given just 13 minutes off the bench against Spurs in an attempt to ease him into his new surroundings. But his aura is there for all to see. Arteta was keen to see the look in the eyes of the squad when Gyokeres walked through the door, and he liked what he saw. Today, 12:41 By Jack Figg Art project ESPN claim that avoiding injury prone players was a key part of Arsenal's recruitment strategy this summer. The club have bolstered Mikel Arteta's options and are desperate to avoid another run-in plagued by injuries. Transfer business has been 'significantly influenced' by players' injury history. Today, 12:21 By Jack Figg London calling Arsenal have been heavily linked with Real Madrid star Rodrygo, but Tottenham could snatch him from under their nose, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes. After struggling to break into Real Madrid's starting XI last term, Rodrygo's future has become uncertain at the Bernabeu. He hasn't made it public that he wants to leave, but the fierce competition for the first team spot in the attack could force him to leave to play regularly next season, especially since the World Cup is set to take place next summer. Rodrygo is a versatile forward and can play anywhere across the frontline. He has proven his worth at the highest level and would be a great coup for Tottenham to replace Son should they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually manages to lure him away from the Bernabeu before the end of this transfer window. Today, 12:01 By Jack Figg French fancy Arsenal are interested in 19-year-old Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet according to Fabrizio Romano. The Gunners are said to have 'made initial contact' over a move for the French centre-back. Jacquet is reported to be being lined up by Arsenal in case defenders leave Emirates Stadium this summer, or with a view to a deal next summer. Jacquet recently signed a new contract with Rennes until 2029. Today, 11:45 By Jack Figg Kiwior's future Jakub Kiwior's future remains open with several clubs keen on signing the centre-back, according to Fabrizio Romano. Today, 11:30 By Jack Figg Kroenke-owned side to sign ex-Gunner MLS club Colorado Rapids look set to beat Sheffield United and Wrexham to the signing of Rob Holding. Holding, 29, is a free agent after seeing his deal expire at Crystal Palace. The centre-back reportedly underwent a medical earlier this week ahead of joining the Rapids, who are owned by Stan Kroenke like Arsenal. Holding was banished from the Palace squad last September and forced to train alone after a fallout with boss Oliver Glasner. Today, 11:16 By Jack Figg Summer signing injured Arsenal keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga has picked up a minor injury. The Spaniard arrived from Chelsea for £5m to be back-up to David Raya. Mikel Arteta revealed he did not feature in the pre-season loss to Spurs on Thursday due to the problem. Arteta said: 'He could have played if it was competitive, but we didn't want to risk him.' Today, 11:00 By Jack Figg From around the ground: By Jordan Davies: Arteta appeared as laser-focused and detailed as ever, and perhaps even more so, knowing that damaging questions will be asked should the Gunners fail to win the Premier League or Champions League this term after three second-placed league finishes on the spin. In an open training session in Singapore on July 25, Arteta was seen getting more involved than he usually would, pushing coaches out of the way to close down players in drills and taking no prisoners, whether it was first-team superstar Bukayo Saka or 15-year-old Max Dowman, setting the tone and leading by example. The drills themselves were also immensely complicated to watch, let alone to take part in, with four groups attacking different goals simultaneously, perhaps a sign that Arteta wants more fluidity in his side's game this season, having been accused last term of being too rigid and predictable in attack. Today, 10:45 By Jack Figg Feeling the heat Mikel Arteta will feel the heat like never before this season – and he got his first taste of it in more ways than one on Arsenal's Asia pre-season tour. With the roof closed during training inside Singapore's National Stadium – the venue for their first two games of the trip – SunSport understands the squad and coaching staff were taken aback by the suffocating humidity. And in their luxury Rosewood hotel in Hong Kong – the day before their 1-0 defeat to Tottenham – boss Arteta was unexpectedly mobbed by at least 50 fans in a tight corridor outside the lifts near the lobby. The Spaniard asked for calm, signed a few shirts before his security team intervened and he was ushered away for a rare bit of peace and quiet. SunSport has been told that Arteta – an intense, obsessive character – made a conscious effort to try and enjoy this tour, to embrace the challenges of being half way around the world and put a positive spin on them. In fact, upon landing in Singapore, SunSport understands that Arteta and managing director Richard Garlick gave a rousing speech to the touring party, with 'energy' a key phrase. Today, 10:30 By Jack Figg Gyok to do it Mikel Arteta is aware he will have to change Arsenal's style of play slightly to get the best from new striker Viktor Gyokeres. Reports suggest that Arsenal will look to move the ball forward quicker this season due to the former Sporting man's strengths on the counter attack. Arteta has been coaching a tweaked style based on 'direct and vertical' play. Thomas Partey agrees transfer move to new club after Arsenal exit
Thomas Partey has reached an agreement with his next club after leaving Arsenal as a free agent. The Ghana midfielder ended his five-year spell at the Emirates Stadium at the end of the 2024-25 season. Partey made 167 appearances for the Gunners and almost helped them win the Premier League twice. Mikel Arteta was reportedly keen for Partey to sign a contract extension but a deal could not be reached. The 32-year-old was linked with several European clubs as he contract with Arsenal ran down and Villarreal have won the race to secure his signature. Spanish outlet AS say Villarreal, who finished fifth in La Liga last season, have agreed a one-year deal with Partey. It is claimed Partey is expected to become a Villarreal player next week after he gave the move the green light. If Partey's move to Villarreal goes through, he will join his former Arsenal teammate Nicolas Pepe at the Spanish club. Shortly after he left Arsenal, Partey was charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. The offences are reported to have taken place in 2021 and 2022, the Metropolitan Police said in a statement. Partey denies the charges and 'welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name', his lawyer said. More Trending Following the charges, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said he was '100%' sure the club following the right processes while dealing with the matter. 'The club was very clear in its statement,' Arteta added. 'There are a lot of legal matters that are very complicated so I cannot comment on any of that.' Partey, who joined Arsenal in a £45m move from Atletico Madrid in 2020, will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on August 5. For more stories like this, check our sport page.
