Cricket-Dassanayake back as US head coach
Dassanayake, who succeeds former Australia batsman Stuart Law in the role, previously coached the side between 2016-2019 when they earned their One Day International (ODI) status.
"I'm proud of what we accomplished during my previous time here, and I see tremendous potential in this group to reach even greater heights," the former Nepal and Canada coach said in a USA Cricket statement.
"I look forward to working closely with the players and staff to continue building something meaningful for USA Cricket."
The U.S. co-hosted the Twenty20 World Cup with West Indies last year, stunning heavyweights Pakistan and making the Super Eight stage of the tournament.
"Pubudu is joining the organization at a pivotal time," USA Cricket Chief Executive Johnathan Atkeison said.
"Following the momentum of 2024, we are now focused on strong performances at the 2026 T20 World Cup and qualification for the 2027 ODI World Cup."
"With his experience and vision, we believe Pubudu can help us achieve these goals."
Dassanayake, 52, played 11 tests for Sri Lanka in the mid-1990s before moving to Canada and becoming captain of the team.

Previously he and Norris, as well as McLaren bosses, have said it was too early to talk of such domination but the evidence is becoming hard to play down now. "Every weekend now, or the last few weekends anyway, it has been Lando and I. I expect our competition to still be strong and put up a good fight, especially at certain tracks through the rest of the year," said Piastri. "Whether that comes from Max or Ferrari or Mercedes or someone else, we never really know. I'm not too concerned about what happens in that. I'm just trying to win each race and extend the lead." Piastri took his first win in Formula One at the Hungaroring last year, while Norris was on pole. McLaren have had six one-two finishes in 13 races, with Piastri winning six times so far and Norris four. Verstappen has had two victories. The team have scored 516 points and are already a mighty 268 points clear of second-placed Ferrari. "Hungary has been historically a good track for us as a team, certainly the two years I've been with the team. I expect us to be strong again this weekend," said Piastri. The 24-year-old said he had full confidence in himself to come out on top by the end of the year. "Not every weekend has been perfect, but there's not many weekends in my whole life that have been perfect," he said. "Just trying to put together a solid, consistent year is ultimately going to be important. The pace in the last few weekends, especially Spa, I've been very confident in and very proud of. Soccer-Begiristain leaves role as Manchester City Director of Football
(Reuters) -Manchester City Director of Football Txiki Begiristain has left the Premier League outfit after 13 years and will be succeeded by Sporting's Hugo Viana, the club announced on Thursday. The 60-year-old Spaniard has been a major part of a trophy-laden period for City during which they won seven Premier League titles, two FA Cups, a Champions League and a Club World Cup. Cycling-Local hero Squiban aces mountain test to win Tour de France Femmes stage six
(Reuters) -Frenchwoman Maeva Squiban made a solo ride to the finish line with a perfectly-timed attack on the final climb to win the mountainous stage six of the Tour de France Femmes on Thursday. Squiban of UAE Team ADQ finished one minute and nine seconds ahead of compatriot Juliette Labous (FDJ-Suez) in second place. Squiban stayed in the peloton led by yellow jersey holder Kimberley Le Court Pienaar (AG Insurance-Soudal), as mountains classification leader Elise Chabbey (FDJ-Suez) led the arduous 10-km climb to Col du Beal, before breaking away on the ascent to Col du Chansert. The 23-year-old soon built a lead of over a minute and comfortably took the win in the 123.7km ride from Clermont-Ferrand to Ambert, becoming the second French rider to claim a stage in the event after Cedrine Kerbaol took stage six last year. Mauritian Le Court was the third to cross the finish line as she retained her lead in the general classification.
