5 injured, 2 in custody after argument leads to stabbing on Southwest Side
According to police, the incident unfolded just after 12 a.m. on Saturday in the 6200 block of South Kedzie Avenue in Chicago Lawn.
Officers were initially called to the scene following a report that multiple people had been stabbed in the area and when they arrived, they found five victims who had all suffered either puncture wounds or lacerations.

Further investigation revealed that an argument had allegedly broken out between two groups of people but became physical when a 29-year-old woman allegedly pulled out a knife and began stabbing several people.
Amid the alleged stabbings, officers said a second suspect, a 47-year-old woman, began punching several of the victims.
In the end, a 47-year-old man who suffered a puncture wound to his left eye was hospitalized in critical condition while two others, a 31-year-old man who sustained a laceration to his face and a 37-year-old man who suffered a puncture wound to his hand were taken to the hospital in fair condition.
Two additional victims, a 36-year-old man who suffered lacerations to his head and back, as well as an adult female who suffered a laceration to her forehead, refused medical treatment.
Officers were able to take the two women into custody and charges are currently pending. Additionally, one of the two women suffered eye irritation from a substance that was sprayed during the incident and was taken to the hospital in good condition.

Currently, it is unclear what led to the initial argument and an investigation into the incident is currently underway.

Nearly 200,000 kids play kitchens recalled after 1 reported death
Approximately 192,000 model play kitchen sets for children are being voluntarily recalled following one reported death. Backyard Kids, LLC and the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall Thursday, saying the KidKraft Farm to Table Model Play Kitchen sets, manufactured by KidKraft, Inc., could pose a risk of strangulation and asphyxia if a child climbs on the toy set counter or crawls through the play set's opening in the back. The company noted that while the recall impacts 192,000 units, only 400 were actually "sold to consumers by Backyard Kids." "KidKraft, Inc. filed for bankruptcy in May 2024. Backyard Kids has agreed to a provide free replacement hooks to all consumers with affected units as a part of this recall," the company stated. According to Backyard Kids' recall announcement, children's clothing can get caught on the recalled play set's hooks, which are used to hold toy kitchen accessories "such as play pots and pans," and there is a risk of serious injury or death. Backyard Kids said a 23-month-old child reportedly died from strangulation and asphyxia after his shirt was caught on a hook on one of the KidKraft play kitchen sets in February 2023. The child had reportedly climbed and crawled through the play set's opening in the back where the toy kitchen accessories were attached and was unable to release himself. "Neither KidKraft, Inc. nor Backyard Kids have received any other reports of the hooks catching a child's garment or injuring a child," Backyard Kids stated. Recalled KidKraft Farm to Table Model Play Kitchens are black and light gray and feature countertops that look like wood. They measure 44 inches in length, 13 3/4 inches in width, and 43 inches high. The play kitchen sets, which were made in China, bear the model number 53411 on a sticker on the back. The play kitchens were intended for pretend play for children 3 years old and above. The recalled products were sold online on Amazon's and Walmart's websites, as well on KidKraft's website between 2018 and July 2025. The sets retailed between $120 and $270. Anyone with a recalled play kitchen set is advised to immediately stop using it, remove the set's original hooks and reach out to Backyard Kids for free replacement hooks. Driver flees police, hits pedestrians, crashes stolen car in NW Portland
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Two pedestrians were seriously injured when they were hit by a driver in a stolen car who was fleeing from a traffic stop in the Pearl District early Sunday afternoon. Around 1 p.m., officers spotted the stolen Kia near NW 9th and Burnside and tried to stop it. But the driver took off instead, and police said they did not pursue. The driver then turned onto Northwest Glisan, lost control and crashed into the pedestrians near Northwest 6th. The pedestrians were rushed to a hospital, but neither their exact conditions nor their names have been released. Body found in Willamette River near Steel Bridge The driver was taken into custody at the scene of the crash, officials said. Jacoby Bush, who works in the area, told KOIN 6 News he saw the car racing down the street and go towards a bunch of people before crashing into a fence. 'There was a big group of people over there. Obviously a lot of people scattered, a lot of people looking towards it. It was a lot of chaos,' he said. 'It could have been much worse.' Shelter dog was stolen and returned in ‘whirlwind 24 hours.' Then came good news
A 2-month-old puppy was stolen, returned and then adopted within days at one Chicago shelter. Staff at Anti-Cruelty Society in River North announced Peter, a black Dachshund mix with wide, expressive eyes, went missing on July 27, the shelter in Illinois said. Turns out, he was stolen. 'Peter is very young and needs care. We are deeply concerned for his safety and are asking for the public's help. The Chicago Police Department is also engaged and assisting in the effort to locate Peter,' the shelter said in a Facebook post shortly after it was discovered Peter was stolen. People flooded the comment section, announcing they've shared the post to help track down the little guy, and wondering how something like that could occur. According to WGN, a couple who was interested in adopting Peter walked out of the shelter with him in their arms. Good news is, the ones accused of stealing Peter were the ones who ended up returning him. 'We're so grateful that he was returned safe and in good health,' Darlene Duggan, the President of Anti-Cruelty Society, said to WGN. The shelter even announced his return on their Facebook page the next day. 'After a whirlwind 24 hours that had all of us heartbroken and worried, we are beyond relieved to share that Peter, our 2‑month‑old Dachshund mix, was safely returned to us this afternoon,' the shelter said in a July 28 post. 'This story touched so many people, and we felt the outpouring of support from near and far. Every like, comment, and share helped spread the word and bring Peter back to safety—and we can't thank you enough for rallying behind him.'
