Mumbai: A 56-year-old businessman from Juhu was duped of ₹50,000 by an unidentified individual who allegedly impersonated his brother, who lives in the United States, and requested money for a medical emergency. The accused used a voice-altering software to sound like the businessman's brother, said a police officer. Fraud impersonates bizman's US-based brother, swindles ₹ 50k According to the police, the incident occurred on Thursday when the businessman was at home and received a call from an unknown American phone number from a person who claimed to be his brother. The caller told the businessman that he was sick and needed money for treatment, after which the businessman sent ₹50,000 to a bank account, details of which were shared by the caller. The profile picture of the number was a photo of the complainant's brother, the officer said. 'After a while, the businessman received another call requesting to transfer additional ₹50,000 to the same bank account. He sensed something suspicious and called his brother's mobile number, which he had already had and learnt that his brother was fine and had not called him,' he added. Based on the businessman's complaint on Saturday, the police registered a case against the unidentified individual under Sections 318 (4) (cheating) and 319 (2) (cheating by personation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and relevant sections of the Information Technology Act.

Ukrainian drone attack sets Russian oil depot on fire as Zelenskyy announces prisoner exchange
An overnight Ukrainian drone attack on an oil depot near Russia's Black Sea resort of Sochi sparked a major fire, Russian officials said Sunday, as the two countries traded strikes and the Ukrainian president announced a prisoner exchange. More than 120 firefighters attempted to extinguish the blaze, which was caused by debris from a downed drone striking a fuel tank, Krasnodar regional Gov. Veniamin Kondratyev said on Telegram. Videos on social media appeared to show huge pillars of smoke billowing above the oil depot. Russia's civil aviation authority, Rosaviatsia, temporarily stopped flights at Sochi's airport. Farther north, authorities in the Voronezh region reported that four people were wounded in another Ukrainian drone strike. Russia's Defense Ministry said its air defenses shot down 93 Ukrainian drones over Russia and the Black Sea overnight into Sunday. Meanwhile, in southern Ukraine, a Russian missile strike hit a residential area in the city of Mykolaiv, according to the State Emergency Services, wounding seven people. The Ukrainian air force said Sunday Russia launched 76 drones and seven missiles against Ukraine. It said 60 drones and one missile were intercepted, but 16 others and six missiles hit targets across eight locations. The reciprocal attacks came at the end of one of the deadliest weeks in Ukraine in recent months, after a Russian drone and missile attack on Thursday killed 31 people, including five children, and wounded over 150. The continued attacks come after US President Donald Trump last week gave Russian President Vladimir Putin a shorter deadline — Aug. 8 — for peace efforts to make progress. Trump has threatened to impose new economic sanctions on Russia if progress is not made, while expressing doubt about how effective they would be. 'You know, they're wily characters, and they're pretty good at avoiding sanctions, so we'll see what happens,' Trump said Sunday evening of the Russians. He said his special envoy Steve Witkoff may travel to Russia on Wednesday or Thursday, the final days before his new deadline. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Sunday that Ukraine and Russia have agreed to exchange 1,200 prisoners following their latest round of negotiations in Istanbul in July. 'There is an agreement to exchange 1,200 people,' he wrote on X, saying that the lists of individuals to be swapped were being worked on and that they were working to 'unblock the return of our civilians.' There was no immediate comment from Russia. Zelenskyy also said he discussed with top Ukrainian officials 'the negotiation track – specifically, the implementation of the agreements reached during the meetings with the Russian side in Istanbul, as well as preparations for a new meeting.' Each of the three rounds of talks between the countries this year has resulted in prisoner exchanges but yielded no breakthrough in reaching a ceasefire.

Cincinnati violence victim's GiveSendGo campaign details The GiveSendGo campaign page for Holly says that the aim is to help her recover from the attack. The proceeds will be used for her legal and medical expenses, and also to provide security and some help during her loss of work due to the attack. The page mentions Holly saying 'I never want any mother or daughter to have to endure this again. I will fight to ensure justice. So help me God.' As per the GiveSendGo page, Holly is a single, working-class mother who was 'brutally beaten unconscious by a violent mob of thugs in downtown Cincinnati.' Reportedly, she now suffers severe concussion and hemorrhaging. She cannot work now due to her injuries, and has to put up at an undisclosed secure location due to threats to her life, the page details. On top of that, she has mounting legal and medical bills. 'Every American should be able to walk the streets of their hometowns safely. In Holly's case no police were present and no ambulance arrived to help. She had to get to the hospital on her own,' the page adds. It notes that Holly is now suffering from serious injuries and trauma, and though she is tough, she should not have to face this alone. 'Your donation will help cover Holly's medical bills, lost wages and legal fees as she works to heal and ensure that this never happens again,' the GiveSendGo campaign page adds, further stating, 'Let's show Holly that she's not forgotten—and that she's not alone. Let's show the world that Americans stand together 🇺🇸.' Notably, the campaign page set out to raise $25,000 but has already raised $185,200. The campaign was created by Benny Johnson, who also shared a post on X, saying 'Holly's GiveSendGo is now the #1 trending campaign on the entire site. This happened because of you. Thank you to everyone who's donated, shared, and stood with Holly. When Americans stand united, nothing can stop us.' Holly suffering from 'bad brain trauma' Johnson also shared what he said was Holly's first message on camera since the attack. 'I want to say thank you to everyone for all of the love and support. It's definitely what's keeping me going. And you have just brought back faith in humanity. It's been very, very hard, and I'm still recovering. I still have a very bad brain trauma. God bless you all. Thank you.,' she said in the video. Four arrests have already been made in the case, and six people have been charged in the matter.
