Man United defender Evans announces retirement, takes new role with the club - World
The 37-year-old Evans will take up a new role at United overseeing loans and player development.
'I want to officially announce my retirement from my playing career, not with sadness, but with pride, gratitude and excitement for the next chapter ahead,' he said.
Evans became a free agent at the end of the season following his second spell at United, having graduated through its academy. He also played for West Bromwich Albion and Leicester in a career in which he played 107 times for Northern Ireland. His other major trophies were the FA Cup and two English League Cups.
Evans is currently completing his qualifications in coaching. His official title at United is head of loans and pathways.
'Having just finished his exceptional playing career, Jonny is the perfect role model for our young players,' said United director of football Jason Wilcox. 'Jonny's knowledge of what it takes to succeed at Manchester United will be of great benefit to each of them as we continue to develop world-class talent capable of performing in our first team.'

Al-Hilal eye more glory against Fluminense at Club World Cup
The Saudi Pro League club produced a stunning performance to beat Premier League giants Manchester City 4-3 in extra-time in the round of 16. While there was no shortage of heart and effort in Al-Hilal's display against Pep Guardiola's side, it was allied with an impressive tactical discipline, shape and technical quality. And although they will be remembered for putting Middle Eastern club football on the map with that win, the victory came with a strong international influence. Italian Simone Inzaghi took charge of the team just before the start of the tournament and is able to call on experienced talent such as Portugal full-back Joao Cancelo, former Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly and Serbian midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. It is the latter, who played for Inzaghi at Lazio in Serie A, who proved to be the most influential against City and earned the label "fantastic" from Guardiola. A tall, strong, physical presence in midfield, Milinkovic-Savic is a key element of Al-Hilal's counter-attacking style which proved to be so effective against City. Inzaghi is glad to have a core of players that he can communicate with him and who give his team the necessary nous and experience for these tough tests. "I didn't need to get to know Sergej. He is an extraordinary player who combines quality and quantity," Inzaghi said after Saturday's win. "He ran a lot, just like all the other players. He, like Koulibaly and Joao Cancelo, speak Italian, so they also help my staff and me," he said. 'Historic accomplishment' "It's definitely great to receive these compliments from a manager like Guardiola," Milinkovic-Savic told "We showed what level we're on. I'm feeling great here, we're training well and physically I'm feeling good. Inzaghi has now arrived, who I know really well, so now we need to believe until the end. 'What we did (against City) is inexplicable. We played against one of the best teams in the world and this motivates us more for the next games. It's a historic accomplishment for us, the club and the whole country. We believed for every single second and we've done it." Full-back Renan Lodi, winger Malcom and striker Marcos Leonardo, who scored twice against City, provide some Brazilian influence which could come in very useful at Camping World Stadium on Friday. Fluminense also overcame the odds to reach the last eight, beating UEFA Champions League finalists Inter Milan 2-0. Having gone unbeaten in the group stage including a goalless draw with Borussia Dortmund, the Brazilians -- with 40-year-old Thiago Silva at the back -- have shown strong defensive resiliance. While the two teams meet for the first time in a competitive game, several Brazilians have played for the Saudi club, none better known than 1970 World Cup winner Rivellino who won the domestic league with Al-Hilal after joining them from Fluminense. Iga Swiatek survived a Wimbledon scare as the five-time Grand Slam champion fought back for a 5-7, 6-2, 6-1 win against American world number 208 Caty McNally on Thursday. Polish eighth seed Swiatek was in danger of becoming the latest star to crash out of the grass-court Grand Slam after losing the first set on Centre Court. Five of the top 10 seeds have already been eliminated from the women's singles draw. But the 24-year-old dug deep to win the final two sets as she moved into the third round. Despite being a former junior champion at Wimbledon, Swiatek has struggled on grass in her professional career, with none of her 22 WTA titles coming on the surface. The former world number one, who has won the French Open on clay four times, has never been past the quarter-finals in five previous visits to the All England Club. Swiatek said she "showed there is hope" for her on grass after reaching the Bad Homburg Open final in the build-up to Wimbledon. Beaten in the Australian and French Open semi-finals this year, Swiatek can still dream of making it to the Wimbledon final for the first time. Tennis: Defending champion Krejcikova battles into Wimbledon third round - Omni sports
Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova moved into the third round with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 win over American world number 67 Caroline Dolehide on Thursday. The Czech 17th seed took one hour and 51 minutes to grind out another hard-fought victory to keep her title defence alive. Krejcikova had powered back from a set down to beat Philippines star Alexandra Eala in the first round on Tuesday. The two-time Grand Slam champion has endured a difficult time since defeating Italy's Jasmine Paolini in the final last year. The 29-year-old was out of action until May after suffering a back injury and lost in the second round of the recent French Open. Krejcikova pulled out of last week's Eastbourne Open before the quarter-finals with a thigh problem and has played just eight matches this year. But Krejcikova is relishing being back on the hallowed turf of the All England Club, describing walking onto Centre Court for her first-round match as a "very beautiful and just very joyful experience". Playing on the less glamourous Court Two in the second round, the Czech was broken in the fourth game of the first set, but responded emphatically. She won four consecutive games to regain control and served out the set. Krejcikova wobbled in the second set, dropping serve in the sixth game as Dolehide levelled the match. But the Czech steadied her nerve in the deciding set and landed the decisive break for a 4-2 lead before serving out the win.
