Ghibli Park after dark – anime theme park to stay open at night on special dates this summer
There are a lot of ways Ghibli Park isn't like other theme parks. The focus is on atmosphere and artistry, not rides and parades. Attendance is capped to keep the mood relaxed and peaceful. And when the sun goes down, everyone goes home, since Ghibli Park shuts down at 5 p.m.
At least, it usually shuts down at 5 p.m. Ghibli Park is making an exception this summer, though, in connection with the Night Fantasy event being held at Expo 2005 Aichi Commemorative Park, the park in which Ghibli Park is located. On the first three Saturdays of August, August 2, 9, and 16, Ghibli Park will be open until 8 p.m., giving anime fans the chance to enjoy the facility after sundown, which should make for an even more immersive-feeling experience.
Ghibli Park is composed of five separate areas, three of which will be open on the special nights: Mononoke Village (based on the world of "Princess Mononoke"), "Valley of Witches" (with locations from "Howl's Moving Castle," "Kiki's Delivery Service" and "Earwig and the Witch"), and Ghibli's Grand Warehouse (a museum-like collection of Ghibli art, statues, and exhibits that also houses the theater which screens Studio Ghibli's short anime films).
Admission to Ghibli's Grand Warehouse is organized into entrance-time blocks, so for the extended-hour days 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. blocks are being added, while entry gates to Mononoke Village and Valley of Witches will be open until 7:30 p.m.
Tickets must be reserved in advance for all days at Ghibli Park, and reservations for August can be made starting June 10 at 2 p.m. online here.

Bar event for sitting and spacing out opening in Tokyo; offers the luxury of doing nothing
By Casey Baseel, SoraNews24 Tokyo's Boutto Suru Bar is set to welcome customers this month, but part of its name is a little misleading. When you hear 'bar,' you probably imagine a place that serves beer, wine, or cocktails, but the Boutto Suru Bar's menu consists of non-alcoholic beverages, coffee and tea. So you could make the argument that it should really be called the Boutto Suru Cafe. We'll give it a pass, though because the place is on much more solid ground with the Boutto Suru part of its name, since boutto suru is Japanese for 'space out,' and that's exactly the experience the Boutto Suru Bar is offering. A limited-time even hosted by art gallery Muun in downtown Tokyo's stylish Hiroo neighborhood, the Boutto Suru Bar says it hopes to provide visitors with 'a luxurious time of doing nothing and spacing out for an extended period of time.' Doing nothing, in this case, seems to mean doing nothing physically or mentally taxing, since each customer will be served a soothing cup of either Spacing Out Coffee or Spacing Out Herbal Tea to sip. You don't have to just stare at the walls, either, since the Boutto Suru Bar event is a collaboration between Muun and design studio Vitro, creators of the Dew relaxation lighting device. Image: PR Times Dew is modeled after** **senko hanabi, traditional string-shaped handheld fireworks that emit a soft shower of sparks and are nostalgic symbol of innocent summer fun in Japan. Instead of sparks, though, Dew uses drops of illuminated water, with the fluctuations as the light refracts through the liquid and illuminates ripples in the pool it falls into shown in testing to significantly reduce stress levels in those who watch the cycle. ▼ Dew demonstration video Because of the senko hanabi connection, Boutto Suru Bar will a one-day event held on August 7, Japan's 'Fireworks Day' quasi-holiday. There will be three seatings, at 6, 7, and 8 p.m., with one-drink-inclusive tickets priced at 1,500 yen and reservations available online here. US team clad in game characters wins World Cosplay Summit in Japan
NAGOYA (Kyodo) -- A team representing the United States clad in popular game characters won the championship of the World Cosplay Summit 2025 in central Japan's Nagoya on Sunday. "I have no words. We've been working for this for so many years, so many keep working and dreams can come true," said a U.S. team member dressed as a character from "Fire Emblem Engage" after bagging the first prize at the city's Aichi Arts Center. The event wrapped up the three-day festival that gathered cosplayers from 41 countries and regions. The representatives, in pairs, were judged for the level of precision in the costumes and for their stage performance within a given time of 2 minutes and 30 seconds, during which they recreated scenes from anime or games by using props. The event, held for the 23rd time, kicked off on Friday with a parade by costume role players, or "cosplayers" on a red carpet, dressed as characters from Studio Ghibli's animation movie "Howl's Moving Castle" and animation series "Neon Genesis Evangelion." On the second day, the delegates and cosplayers from the public marched around the Osu shopping street in Nagoya, around where the inaugural event was held in 2003.
