Chris Taylor uncovers quirky nicknames Brits give to their body parts

Chris Taylor and Grime Gran, aka Margie, have been out and about, speaking to Brits about their quirky body part nicknames in a bid to break down taboos
TV personality Chris Taylor and content creator Grime Gran, aka Margie, have been out and about, speaking to Brits about their quirky body part nicknames. From "footsies" to "trotters" and everything in between, Chris chatted with people across London to find out the unusual—and often hilarious—terms they use when referring to certain parts of their anatomy.
The playful chat formed part of a recent research commissioned by Sure Whole Body Deodorant which revealed four in ten Brits often feel embarrassed about the smell of their body parts, with areas other than their armpits likely to leave them feeling the most self-conscious.

Among some of the nicknames uncovered in the research were light-hearted terms like "tummy" for a stomach (used by 40% of Brits) and "food baby" (14%). When it comes to feet, those in the South were likely to call them "footsies" (30%), while Northerners opt for "trotters" (25%).
While 49% say these nicknames are just for a laugh, 30% use them to feel more comfortable with their bodies, and one in 10 give them nicknames in a bid to mask the embarrassment.
'I've been in my fair share of sweaty situations – and it definitely helps to break the tension by using a nickname," Chris said. 'Having chatted to Londoners, it's clear we all get embarrassed when we don't feel fresh.'
Seven out of ten are concerned about body odour in areas other than their underarms, a worry dubbed 'FOBO' (Fear of Body Odour), and the research revealed that women were more likely to be concerned about this more than me.
But overall, most people avoid standing close to others, hugging loved ones, or becoming intimate with a partner when they're worried about body odours.
Alice Duffill, representing Sure Whole Body Deodorant, which utilises odour adapt technology to combat various types of body odours, stated: "Our research shows Brits have a cheeky sense of humour when it comes to their own bodies.
"But these playful nicknames aren't just for fun as they also help people speak more confidently about their bodies.
"Our research found that nearly half of Brits admit to fearing B.O. as a result of sweating, so we're proud to launch a UK-first product to help Brits feel confident in their bodies."

'Sten-dos' are taking over traditional stag and hen dos

A new survey has revealed that nearly three-quarters (73%) of Brits believe traditional stag and hen dos are outdated, with the majority of people saying they would prefer to celebrate with all their friends together Strip clubs, novelty and L-plates on stag and hen-dos are becoming extinct as joint send-offs surge in popularity. ‌ Fresh research reveals younger generations are ditching traditional bachelor and bachelorette-style festivities. Instead, "sten-dos" - a combined stag and hen celebration - are rising in trend as couples-to-be enjoy their final nights of being single together. ‌ A whopping 73% of Brits declared the old-fashioned pre-wedding bashes were now old two-thirds of invitees admitted fabricating excuses to dodge attending one, reports the Daily Star. ‌ The First Choice study discovered 85% of Gen Z would rather party with all their mates together instead of splitting into single-sex groups. Roughly 83% would contemplate a package or all-inclusive break to slash expenses, with latest statistics showing guests fork out an eye-watering £538 for stag and hen celebrations. Kevin Nelson, the managing director of First Choice, commented: "While the concept of a 'Sten do' has been around for some time, recent years have seen significant growth in the trend of mixed-sex friendship groups, going away to celebrate a couple's nuptials in a more wholesome way. "At First Choice, we believe in creating the perfect trip for you, whether that's sprawling self-serve villas, serene spa hotels to vibrant city breaks with culinary adventures – we can package together your flights, accommodation and all of the amazing stuff you do while you're there at a great price to ensure every couple can celebrate their own way." Freelance Beauty and Fashion PR specialist, Jade, shared her own sten do experience in the Lake District. She said: "Forget the usual L-plates and pub crawls – my recent 'sten do' redefined pre-nuptial celebrations, proving that combining Stag and Hen parties can lead to a truly unique, cost-effective, and deeply connected experience."

For two decades, some of the biggest events of the summer have taken place at the huge poolside area. Huge DJs and celebrities have welcomed in thousands of guests to the star-studded pool parties up until this year. A spate of recent deaths, including Brits Evan Thomson, 26, and Gary Kelly, 19, has caused all of the upcoming events to be paused. read more in Ibiza Rocks HOLS HORROR Brit tourist, 19, killed in 3rd floor plunge from Ibiza Rocks hotel The venue announced their decision in a statement which came just hours after the death of Kelly. The teenage ice hockey star lost his life after falling from a third floor balcony at Ibiza Rocks in the early hours of the morning. Two ambulances were sent to the scene but there was nothing the paramedics could do to save him. The statement from Ibiza Rocks posted on their social media pages read: "The safety and wellbeing of our guests has, and always will remain, our highest priority. "Given the seriousness of the situation and out of respect for those involved, we believe it is right to pause our advertised events programme at this time." Just two weeks earlier, fellow Brit Thomson also died in similar tragic circumstances. Heartbreaking tributes to Brit friends, 27 & 29, who both drowned in Algarve holiday pool in 'unimaginable' tragedy He was on holiday with pals celebrating his birthday at the hotel when he plunged from the sixth-floor to his death. There has been no suggestion the hotel is responsible for any of the deaths. But the Aberdeen lad's family were quick to call out the hotel for their response to his death. They claimed the hotel's handling of the situation was "horrific". Evan's friend Blair Robertson, 25, said: "We heard the jet washes from the ground cleaning the area where Evan died and it had only been 90 minutes or so since he was found. "That was the worst thing for us to hear – how fast they tried to get things back to normal." His other friend James Shand told Press and Journal: "Seeing them post 'are you all ready for the next event?' within hours of it happening was sickening. "If something like this happened in the UK, the place would get shut down." 10 The final minutes of former rugby player Luke Rhoden's life were steeped in mystery for years after he died at the hotel Credit: Paul Edwards - The Sun 10 Mum Amy, 23, died at the hotel in her sleep after going out partying Credit: Facebook 10 The hotel often calls itself the home of the pool party As police continue to investigate both of the young Brit's deaths, a worrying number of other tragedies at the hotel have been revealed. Ibizan outlet Noudiari even reported that the "latest incident adds to a worrying statistic that has led some people to refer to Ibiza Rocks as the "Death Hotel'." Two deaths rocked Ibiza in April when a British woman collapsed and died in her room. Paramedics and police rushed to the hotel but pronounced the 33-year-old dead after 40 minutes trying to resuscitate her. The woman reportedly had a cardioverter defibrillator implant which helped to monitor her heartbeat and treat abnormal heart rhythms. Just three days earlier, a 19-year-old Italian tourist died after she fell from the fourth-floor of the hotel. The woman is said to have been partying late into the night before returning to her room and finding she was locked out. She then decided to try and access her room via a balcony, according to local media. The teen lost her footing and fell to her death. In a statement afterwards, Ibiza Rocks Hotel said: "Following the tragic events that occurred this week due to causes beyond our control, IRG expresses its dismay and extends its utmost support to the families of the victims, thanking people for respect for their privacy in a situation of immeasurable pain." 10 Several victims have fallen to their deaths from balconies in the past Credit: Darren Fletcher 10 The hotel is frequently visited by celebs including Jadon Sancho, Raheem Sterling and Stormzy In August 2020, another incident saw a young woman pass away in her sleep as she stayed at the hotel. Amy Connor, 23, had been sunbathing with her sister and their friends before heading back to her room to shower and have a nap. Her friends found her unconscious in bed a short time later. Heartbroken sister Toni has always praised the hotel for how they handled the situation. She said they offered the group help with everything from flights home to even paying for extra cases to help them feel comfortable. One of the most notable deaths linked to the hotel came in 2014. The final minutes of former rugby player Luke Rhoden's life were steeped in mystery for years after his family announced his passing. Rhoden, 25, died on September 2, with police initially saying he fell from a first-floor balcony before running through the hotel screaming "someone's trying to kill me". The Spanish Civil Guard managed to subdue the athlete by giving him a sedative and placed him in an ambulance. He then died at the scene as paramedics spent 40 minutes trying to revive him. But theories soon emerged that Rhoden's death may have been caused by the officers as they tried to restrain him. Dad Norman would call for an investigation after reading reports his son was "excessively beaten" on social media. An inquest was launched in Bolton as a jury found he died of asphyxiation caused by the excessive restraining methods adopted by the Guardia Civil and an adverse reaction to drug use. Ibiza Rocks was at the centre of the police probe for weeks but staff were later praised by cops after a woman filmed the altercation. The seventh reported death at Ibiza Rocks dates back to 2008. British holidaymaker Michael Robertson, 23, collapsed at the hotel after taking ecstasy. He was rushed to the Can Misses Hospital but passed away suffering repeated heart failure.

Gen Z are making their tea without a kettle and it's an 'absolute violation'

As Brits, we're famous the world over for enjoying a good cup of tea — and proud of it. However, it appears that some of us have begun taking a rather, erm, creative approach to preparing our morning cuppa. While getting the kettle on might be one of the first things most of us do on any given morning, it appears that isn't the case for every age group. New statistics, which almost made us spit out our tea, reveal over half of Gen Z (those aged 18 to 27) makes their brew (brace yourself) in the microwave. The research, carried out by comparison experts USwitch, found that three-fifths of Gen Z (58%) admitted to the practice, with a shocking one in six (17%) doing so every day. In news that probably has Earl Grey himself spinning in his grave, they aren't even the only ones at it. Millennials (aged 28-43) were the next most likely age bracket to prefer a nuked brew, with 32% of them admitting to the practice, and Gen X (aged 44-59) took third place, with 15% of them choosing to prepare tea radiation-style. Rounding out the list are the Baby Boomers (those aged 60 to 78) and the Silent Generation (aged 79 and above), with just 10% of the former and only 6% of the latter using a microwave to make tea. Gen Z (18-27) – 58% (18-27) – 58% Millennials (28-43) – 32% (28-43) – 32% Gen X (44-59) – 15% (44-59) – 15% Boomers (60-78) – 10% (60-78) – 10% Silent Generation (79+) – 6% Unsuprisingly, the practice of microwaving tea has disturbed many. The practice is actually surprisingly common in America, and when stateside content creators have filmed themselves making tea in this way, it's caused quite the backlash from Brits. 'I think I just witnessed a crime,' and KerryManyLetters commented on one such video, 'How? How can people not know how to make tea?'. While another called it an 'absolute violation' and a third said that microwaving tea fell under the category of 'things that should be illegal but aren't!' Others had a more emotional reaction. User @sillybillylilly wrote: 'This physically hurts its not even funny there are tears in my eyes.' Meanwhile those who have attempted to make tea 'American-style' in the microwave were less than impressed, with Irish creator Garron Noone (garron_music), describing it as tasting like 'sterilised baby bottles'. As someone who considers themselves a self-styled brew connoisseur, it's a question that I personally never thought I'd have to ask. However, it appears that there is, at least, some reasoning behind why the younger demographic might be turning to the microwave to make a brew. Natalie Mathie, energy expert at remarks: 'It's possible that many younger people use a microwave because kettles are often banned in student accommodation, but this is a trend that's growing with each passing generation. More Trending 'While it seems like an affront to basic tea-making traditions, if it works for people, who are we to argue? 'However you're boiling your water, make sure you only put in the amount of water you need, as heating excess water can waste a lot of electricity' Whatever option you prefer – kettle, hob, microwave – the cost of boiling your tea water is still only about 1p per cuppa. View More » If you are really counting the pennies, then technically, a covered pan on a gas hob is the cheapest way to make tea, at just 0.74p. However, you're gonna be waiting a while for that brew. Gas hob (covered pan) – 0.74p (in 217 seconds) Gas hob (uncovered pan) – 0.84p (in 245 seconds) Microwave – 1.03p (in 180 seconds) Electric kettle – 1.11p (in 52 seconds) Do you have a story to share?
