Apple Ordered To Provide UK Gov't Access To All User Data On The Cloud

Gulf Insider09-02-2025
The Washington Post reported Friday that the United Kingdom's deep state has demanded that Apple create a back door for them to retrieve all the content any Apple user worldwide has uploaded to the cloud—what would be an unprecedented erosion of online privacy and civil liberties.
Citing anonymous sources, the Post reported that the British government's undisclosed order was issued last month. It reportedly requires Apple to give officials blanket capability to view fully encrypted material.
Typically, Apple has assisted authorities on a case-by-case basis—such as helping the FBI access a terrorist's phone, for example. The Post noted that the access sought by the UK 'has no known precedent in major democracies.'
🚨WaPo published an EXTREMELY important story today about a secret UK order for Apple to provide it w/ total access to all user data on the cloud — an order that would implicate Americans and the entire world. The Post rightly notes that the UK's order "has no known precedent in… pic.twitter.com/pA3uvpnekc — Ken Silva (@JD_Cashless) February 7, 2025
According to the Post , the UK's order was made pursuant to the sweeping U.K. Investigatory Powers Act of 2016, which authorizes law enforcement to compel assistance from companies to access user data.
'The law, known by critics as the Snoopers' Charter, makes it a criminal offense to reveal that the government has even made such a demand,' the Post reported.
'Apple can appeal the U.K. capability notice to a secret technical panel, which would consider arguments about the expense of the requirement, and to a judge who would weigh whether the request was in proportion to the government's needs. But the law does not permit Apple to delay complying during an appeal.'
An Apple spokesman reportedly declined to comment. The Post reported that Apple is likely to stop offering encrypted storage in the UK.
'Yet that concession would not fulfill the U.K. demand for backdoor access to the service in other countries, including the United States,' the newspaper added.
Western countries, including the U.S., have been pushing for total access to online user data for years.
In March 2021, for example, former FBI Director Chris Wray told the Senate Judiciary Committee that encryption was stifling his agents from investigating domestic extremism.
According to Wray and other law enforcers, tech companies should be able to build 'backdoors' into their encryption that preserves privacy, while allowing for access when necessary. That, they say, strikes the proper balance between data security and national security.
However, numerous tech experts, civil libertarians, and others say that it's impossible to build a backdoor that can't be exploited by hackers. They also say that by banning encryption, the United States would be following in the footsteps of authoritarian countries such as China, which blocked the encrypted messaging app Signal.
'It is important to understand that any kind of back door (or front door) access for the 'good guys' can also be exploited by the 'bad guys,'' the pro-industry Information Technology & Innovation Foundation stated in a July 2020 report.
'For example, key escrow systems would introduce new attack vectors that could allow attackers to gain access to encrypted information, such as by compromising the system that maintains copies of the keys.'

Lula Threatens Response After Trump Slaps 'Witch-Hunting' Brazil With Highest Tariff-Rate Globally

On Friday President Trump imposed an unprecedented whopping 50% tariff on products imported into the US from Brazil, including nearly one-third of the coffee Americans consume daily. This is despite the US having maintained a trade surplus with Brazil amounting to hundreds of billions of dollars over the past decade, and it's all tied to the political firestorm of ex-leader Jair Bolsonaro's trial, and Trump's efforts to defend his friend known as the 'Brazilian Donald Trump'. The 50% tariff on select Brazilian imports is the highest rate currently applied to any nation globally, and with tiny Switzerland coming in second, having been shocked by its 39% tariff rate, which are the highest tariffs in Europe. On Switzerland, the BBC writes, 'It's the one story dominating the news and the airwaves on Friday. One newspaper, Blick, described it as the country's biggest defeat since French victory in the battle of Marignano in 1515.' But on the Brazil front, President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has slammed the Trump tariffs as blatant political interference and says the government is preparing a response. 'We have always been open for a dialogue,' President Lula wrote on X. 'We are working now to respond to the US tariff measures,' Lula da Silva said. 'Only citizens and institutions of Brazil have the right to determine the country's path, including the relations with the United States,' he added. The US has included some exemptions: U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday slapped a 50% tariff on most Brazilian goods to fight what he has called a 'witch hunt' against former President Jair Bolsonaro, but softened the blow by excluding sectors such as aircraft, energy and orange juice from heavier levies. Trump announced the tariffs, some of the steepest levied on any economy in the U.S. trade war, as his administration also unveiled sanctions on the Brazilian supreme court justice who has been overseeing Bolsonaro's trial on charges of plotting a coup. Lula previously vowed to introduce tit-for-tat tariffs if Washington does not reconsider, while also expressing hope that his Brazilian delegation will be able to achieve the revision of tariffs through negotiations. The US has sought to present this as more than just political and more than merely motivated by protection of Trump-ally Bolsonaro, however. For example Wednesday's US Treasury statement announcing sanctions on those who are going after Bolsonaro also cited Brazil's 'unusual and extraordinary' actions as harmful to American businesses, free speech, and economic interests. Eduardo Bolsonaro, son of the former president, has defended Trump's actions, saying it's not about revenge, but justice. Meanwhile Trump has said that President Lula can call him anytime.

Woke Is Dead: Jaguar CEO Behind Disastrous Gay Rebrand Suddenly "Retires"

The incidents are not isolated; woke is dying everywhere and mainstream advertising is one of the surest litmus tests. Though the culture war continues and requires eternal vigilance it's safe to say that most Americans and even Europeans (save a tiny, shrill minority) are fed up with far-left deconstructionist insanity. One blaring example of woke suicide is Jaguar. The car company, once marketed to affluent and successful men between 35-65 years of age, started to move away from older male buyers over a decade ago. In 2011 they launched a direct mail campaign targeting women, saying: 'We've woken up to the fact that there is a huge audience of powerful, wealthy women that want to be treated respectfully. We don't want to forget our predominantly male audience, but design and luxury are our selling points and there are a lot of wealthy, powerful, empowered women that appeals to.' In recent years they have attempted to pander to younger customers, believing (like most corporations) that diversity ideology was the key to the wallets of 'design minded' Millennials and Gen Z. Young people who 'challenge the status quo' and embrace 'woke rebellion'. The rebrand was heralded with an ad featuring androgynous or trans models, stating 'delete ordinary' and 'break moulds'. It was an utter disaster, leading to a 97% collapse in sales. The problem with this strategy is that woke activists are a phantom when it comes to consumer leverage. Most of them don't have money and they spend much of their time on the internet using coordinated mob intimidation to make their movement appear far bigger than it really is. Jaguar was trying to advertise a vehicle that retails for six-figures to a market of broke, mentally disturbed people living off their boomer parents. Activist groups and companies spent so much time and energy trying to make the public believe that woke was 'the majority' they ended up tricking themselves. They made the classic mistake of propagandists – They believed their own propaganda. JLR is dedicated to promoting inclusion, ensuring a safe working environment and policies for LGBTQ+ colleagues. Our CEO, Adrian Mardell joined colleagues at Birmingham PRIDE this weekend, where our PRIDE wrapped Jaguar F-TYPE Convertible and Defender featured in the parade. — JLR (@JLR_News) May 27, 2024 Adrian Mardell, the 64-year-old CEO of Jaguar Land Rover, is stepping down from his post just three years after taking on the role. He joined the company over three decades ago and was at the helm when it pushed the woke rebrand advert. Mardell jumped headfirst into woke marketing and pulled Jaguar down into the depths with him. This included pushing 'Gay Pride' at a time when LGBT virtue signaling was on the outs with the western public. His sudden 'retirement' is yet more evidence that woke messaging in marketing is being eradicated. The CEO's exit comes right before Jaguar is set to launch yet another rebrand and it's likely that this time the car company will steer well clear of DEI and LGBT symbolism in their ads. It is not clear if the CEO was forced out of his position because of his ultra-gay advertising flop, but corporations today are careful to avoid admitting when decisions based on progressive politics are a failure. Regardless, progressive companies have hit a wall they did not expect: They did not consider the fact that they can bombard the public with propaganda but they can't force the public to buy their products. And, with government subsides drying up, they must now rely solely on consumers to keep them financially afloat. Wokeness is over, and the free market wins again.

RFK Jr. Drops Stunning New Vaccine Announcement

HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. just took aim at a system that has failed Americans for nearly 40 years, the Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP). This program was created under the 1986 National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act, which shielded vaccine manufacturers from lawsuits over injury claims. Before becoming HHS Secretary, Kennedy exposed how vaccine manufacturers were being hammered with lawsuits due to injuries. One of the largest manufacturers at the time, Wyeth (now part of Pfizer), reportedly told President Reagan: give us legal protection or we'll stop making vaccines. Reagan's response? Why not just make safer vaccines? Wyeth's answer: Vaccines are 'unavoidably unsafe.' That phrase— ' unavoidably unsafe ' —would later appear in a Supreme Court decision and reflects the legal premise that some vaccine injuries are inevitable. 'And so, anybody who tells you vaccines are safe and effective, the industry itself got immunity from liability by convincing the President and Congress that vaccines are unavoidably unsafe,' Kennedy previously stated. Before becoming HHS Secretary, Kennedy exposed how vaccine manufacturers were being hammered with lawsuits due to of the largest manufacturers at the time, Wyeth (now part of Pfizer), reportedly told President Reagan: give us legal protection or we'll stop making… — The Vigilant Fox 🦊 (@VigilantFox) July 28, 2025 Senator Edward Kennedy, a key sponsor of the law, wrote at the time: 'When … children are the victims of an appropriate and rational national policy, a compassionate government will assist them in their hour of need.' That compassionate government never showed up. Over 39 years, the VICP has awarded just $5.4 billion to 12,000 victims. That comes out to about '1.2 awards per million doses administered.' In a brand-new statement on X, Secretary Kennedy said he intends to FIX the broken system. He explained that the court was meant to resolve claims 'quickly and fairly,' with 'doubts about causation resolved in favor of the victim.' But that hasn't happened. 'The structure itself hobbles claimants,' Kennedy wrote. 'The defendant is HHS, not the vaccine makers; and claimants are therefore facing the monumental power and bottomless pockets of the U.S. government represented by the Department of Justice.' He explained how Special Masters, who decide the cases, often come from government or political backgrounds and typically show a strong pro-government bias. 'There is no discovery, and the rules of evidence do not apply,' Kennedy lamented. He added that petitioners' attorneys report retaliation, fee suppression, and even denied access to the Vaccine Safety Datalink, a taxpayer-funded CDC database containing the best data on vaccine injuries. Worse, expert witnesses for injured children have reported intimidation and threats to their careers, including the loss of NIH funding if they testify. But Kennedy says that era is over. 'The VICP is broken, and I intend to fix it,' he wrote on X. 'I will not allow the VICP to continue to ignore its mandate and fail its mission of quickly and fairly compensating vaccine-injured individuals.' Kennedy added that he is working closely with AG Pam Bondi and HHS staff to restore the court's original mission and pledges to 'steer the Vaccine Court back to its original Congressional intent.'
