"Joke": Bengaluru CEO On Astronomer HR Head's Alleged 'Boston Brahmin' Link
"That Coldplay concert controversy has bizarrely been linked to Brahmins. What a joke!"
"Didn't even know 'Boston Brahmins' was a real term until I watched this video," she added.

— Anuradha Tiwari (@talk2anuradha) July 22, 2025
The viral concert clip shows Kristin Cabot, the Chief People Officer of US-based software company Astronomer, with the company's former CEO, Andy Byron. They were both married to other people.
Ms Tiwari's comment came in response to internet sleuths discovering that Ms Cabot was married to Andrew Cabot, is a sixth-generation heir to the Privateer Rum fortune and a direct descendant of Andrew Cabot, one of the earliest members of the so-called "Boston Brahmin" elite.
Ms Tiwari's post soon went viral.
"What next? BBC? British Brahmin Corporation?" a user mocked.
Someone commented, "Boston Brahmins were the wealthiest and most influential Americans in New England. The Rockefellers, etc were all Boston Brahmins. So called because they were the direct descendants of the first English settlers."
A user wrote, "I guess I missed the part where he blamed the Brahmins."
The Cabot family is widely regarded as one of New England's most elite old-money dynasties. Their influence, along with that of the Lowells, Peabodys, and other elite families, shaped Boston's financial and cultural institutions for generations. A local saying goes, "The Lowells talk only to Cabots, and the Cabots talk only to God."
Who are Boston Brahmins?
Oliver Wendell Holmes coined the term in his 1861 novel Elsie Venner, calling Boston's elite families "the Brahmin Caste of New England", according to a PBS report. Brahmins are the highest priestly caste in India, and Mr Holmes borrowed the term to describe Boston's upper-class, Anglo-Saxon Protestant families, which has stuck since then.
The Boston Brahmins were the descendants of Puritans, having made their fortune as American merchants. They were the closest thing the United States has ever had to a true aristocracy.
In India, the word "Brahmin" carries a very different sociopolitical meaning, often tied to debates over caste privilege, reservation policies, and social justice.
Last year, Ms Tiwari, posted a photo writing, "Brahmin genes."
In follow-up posts, she argued that being proud of being a Brahmin identity was no different from claiming pride in being Dalit, Muslim, or tribal. "A mere mention of word 'Brahmin' triggered many inferior beings. Tells a lot about who real casteists are. UCs (upper class) get nothing from the system - no reservation, no freebies. We earn everything on our own and have every right to be proud of our lineage. So, deal with it," she wrote.
She added, "There is an entire system working to make Brahmins feel guilty for their very existence."

Artist Mehak Garg explores intimate domestic spaces in debut solo show
New Delhi, Aug 2 (PTI) In artist Mehak Garg's world, men lie leisurely on sofas almost becoming one with it in texture and colour, and women share a seemingly dull afternoon in a room overlooking a quiet street – all exuding a faint yet comforting sense of days strewn across one's life that could be yesterday, today, or even tomorrow. 'Fragile Creases Whisper Softly", presented by Gallery Dotwalk and curated by Lakshmi Nivas Collective at Bikaner House, brings together Garg's immersive large scale oil paintings along with a selection of smaller works that feature a domestic space and its inhabitants that feel familiar in each frame. The Faridabad-based artist drew from her experiences and memories to conjure rooms, staircases, and scenes of domesticity that are relatable to most, if not all. 'All the works are connected to each other and the feelings they carry are also connected to each other. So the idea was when you go into a space and interact with it you feel this sense of nostalgia and also the memories that you feel you have lived," Garg told PTI. The exhibition features an array of paintings of people inside a house, not in any particular activities, sharing a quiet existence and, at times, the looks of somebody lost in thought. The structure of the house in her paintings, Garg said, comes from her own life and does not belong to one particular building. 'These rooms I have created from my memory of all the places I have seen and lived in. They are mixed spaces from different sites and since it's a domestic space whoever sees it feels they have seen it somewhere," the 25-year-old said. The choice of soft pastel colours also comes from the same philosophy of creating a 'pause in time". 'The selection of colours is very deliberate because I wanted to create a very peaceful, a very subtle and calm feeling. Sort of when it's a pause in time, when you are trying to introspect, that sort of feeling I was trying to communicate with these colours," she said. With intimacy at the heart of Garg's paintings, the exhibition welcomes the viewer to a world that is not different from their own. Curators Namrata Neog and Sunoj D of Lakshmi Nivas Collective said that it is one of the most powerful aspects of Garg's works that one finds themselves in 'the silence of one's thought" looking at these paintings. 'The boundaries between inside and outside blur and the home becomes an archaeological site to explore, where do the people in the images find solace, silence, daydream or heal after distress, banality, labor or conflict. While pondering, the viewers slip into their own memories of homes, sites of intimacy – distant or present," they said. The show will feature a curator's walkthrough and a public talk on Sunday between Garg and sociologist Shivani Rajput. After coming to a close at Bikaner House on August 6, the exhibition will continue at Gallery Dotwalk in Gurugram from August 16 till September 15. Piloo Vidyarthi On Retaining Ex-Husband Ashish Vidyarthi's Surname: 'What Do I Have To Prove?'
Last Updated: Actor Ashish Vidyarthi, 61, married Rupali Barua in 2023. His ex-wife Piloo Vidyarthi discussed life post-divorce, modern relationships, and her openness to love but not marriage. It was the year 2023. Actor Ashish Vidyarthi, 61, emerged as the newsmaker of the year after he announced his wedding to Assam-based fashion entrepreneur Rupali Barua. Soon after, the actor appeared in front of the camera multiple times to douse the commotion around his second wedding. However, one person remained silent while Ashish became news – his first wife, Piloo Vidyarthi. The duo parted ways on an amicable note after 22 years of marriage, and it's been two years since then. However, the surname 'Vidyarthi' still flashes brightly on Piloo's Instagram profile. In an exclusive conversation with News18 Showsha, the actor spoke about life after divorce, why she still uses Vidyarthi as her surname, and her current outlook on love and companionship. When asked about still using the surname 'Vidyarthi', Piloo explained, 'The Indian system is complicated. There are so many things you need to consider before altering your name or surname. I am still struggling to change my address on my Aadhar card. If you marry again, the surname change becomes easier." She added that for her, the name carries a history and doesn't need to be altered unless there's a strong reason. 'I don't find a powerful reason to change it. Neither Ashish has a problem with it nor I. Actually, what do I have to prove my changing my surname? It has worked for me." Talking about ex-husband's Ashish's current wife, she said, 'Rupali is now writing Barua [referencing to the fact that she was Piloo Barua before her wedding]. I write Vidyarthi and she never has any issue with it. She is also a very simple person." View this post on Instagram A post shared by RAJOSHI VIDYARTHI (@piloovidyarthi) Piloo Vidyarthi on 'moving on' from her divorce to Ashish Vidyarthi Piloo offered a thought-provoking take on modern relationships, calling most marriages 'pretentious and dishonest." Piloo Vidyarthi reveals if she is open to love When asked if she herself had moved on from her divorce, the Akelli star replied in affirmative: 'Yes, I have. I don't feel a lack of anything. I don't miss any luxury. But sure, there are small things, like not having a partner." However, she clarified that she has no intentions of remarrying, 'I'm open to love if at all, but not remarriage at this point in time." The actor also shared her thoughts on the world of online dating apps and joked, 'It doesn't work for me. I can't meet people like that."
